It's Wednesday, we're at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk VA for the Dynamite after Full Gear. Our commentators at Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.
They start with Cowboy Sh!t day and a celebration of Hangman Adam Page. And I fyou didn't read his press release about it, it's funny.
But first, we get The Elite in the back where Kenny says he's disgusted about losing, and there are things he has to fix and change, and he asks The Young Bucks to hold down the fort, but Adam Cole says he will do so first.
In the ring, it's The Dark Order and John Silver introduces Hangman Adam Page to the ring. His graphic says “unnecessary cheap pop”. Page shows in street gear with the belt. The crowd chants he deserves it and Page says that he earned it, which they start chanting that instead. He says he has a boss to answer to and his boss is the crowd. He says if his boss is OK with it, he will stay in the ring to celebrate Cowboy Sh!t day with them.
He knows the champion has a lot of responsibility and his first responsibility is Bryan Danielson, who comes to the ring. Bryan says congratulations and he is excited about their upcoming match. He says he's a little surprised and disappointed it's not Kenny Omega. Page says he beat Omega and he did it in less than 30 minutes. Bryan says he won't dress like a Ghostbuster on Halloween, he is there to kick ass. He also says he celebrates by wrestling and he wrestled after he won at Wrestlemania the next day.
The crowd boos and Bryan says of course Virginia boos hard work. Page says why not wrestle tonight, but Bryan says that Page isn't in his gear, mocking his clothes. Bryan going heel it looks like. He then says Page has a lot of excuses for why he fails and he doesn't want him to have the excuse that he's not ready. Page says that he'll do it Bryan's way, and they won't have a match, but they can have a fight.
PULL APART!!
Bryan says that he can have his friends stop them because he doesn't want to fight. We got a hint that he might be going heel in this feud, and they went there. I also thought they'd let it simmer for a while, but they ARE going to Chicago next week and Long Island in December, so why not?
After things calm down, Bryan says the Dark Order knows he'd kick Page's ass and they are pulled apart again.
Bryan Danielson vs Evil Uno
They hook up quickly and Bryan locks on a leg bar and they go to the ropes. They lock up again and Bryan works by twisting Uno's arm. When they run the ropes. Uno gets a shoulder talker and a two count. Uno chops Bryan and Bryan slaps Uno HARD and then starts in with chops and kicks of his own. When they get to their feet, they each tell each other to bring it, and Bryan is able to take down Uno with kicks.
Bryan tells the ref he has until 5 to break. We don't see that anymore. Happy to see it back.
Uno is up again and keeps telling Bryan to bring it. Uno is able to get Bryan in the corner for chops and elbow strikes. Uno is able to get a Hurricanrana and a neck breaker for a two count. Uno's new gear makes it look like he's still slimming down. He looks good in the ring in this match.
Bryan is able to get Uno into the corner and starts slapping and then running kicks. Uno is able to recover and hits a senton, but Bryan gets knees up. Bryan follows it with a flying knee, and then the face stomp. He locks on the triangle sleeper and Uno taps quickly.
Your winner: Bryan Danielson
Tony Schiavone comes to the ring and says things got testy between him and Page and Bryan says he came out to congratulate Page and because of his behavior, he kicked his head him. Bryan says he will kick all of the heads in of the Dark Order until he faces Page. Next week, they are in Chicago, and he will take on Colt Cabana next week if he has any nuts.
We then get MJF after his win Saturday. He says all he heard about is how great of a wrestler other people are, but he showed them they are wrong. He knows how much the fans hate him and they have to admit how good he is. He beat Darby Allin with a Headlock Takeover. Great promo by MJF.
We then get a video package of the match between CM Punk and Eddie Kingston. Tony is with Eddie in the back and 2.0 show and taunt him for not lasting as long as Daniel Garcia. Eddie gets in Garcia's face and they start shoving. He then begs that one time he gets to do a promo with no interruption.
Butcher and Blade w/Bunny and Matt Hardy vs Orange Cassidy with Tomohiro Ishii w/Rocky Romero and the Best Friends
Ishii starts with Butcher, who then tags in Blade. Ishii takes a series of blows and then drops Blade. Cassidy is tagged in and I can't think of two people with more of a style different than these partners. After Cassidy does his Orange Cassidy stuff, Blade tags in Butcher and keeps fighting, goes out of the ring so that Butcher can run in and take Cassidy down. Cassidy takes in the small screen beat down.
It's odd that we've got three heavy hitters and Cassidy, and Cassidy seems like he's out of place. We also have Butcher back, and I found out at the press conference that Butcher is the front man of a Heavy Metal band that is on tour, and I had no idea that's why he hasn't been on Dynamite.
When we return to the big screen, Cassidy is able to get away and saunters over to tag in Ishii. And then we get a hoss fight between Ishii and Blade. Ishii's work looks stiff and brutal. Butcher tags in and they go head to hear and then throw hands in the middle of the ring. Ishii is getting beat down and suddenly, he turns, and walks into Butcher giving his elbows to the head. It was impressive and more than a little scary. Ishii takes Butcher down with a suplex and the pin is broken up by Blade.
Cassidy tags in and starts doing his final move stuff. He tries for an Orange Punch and Butcher and Blade stop him and they drop him. Ishii breaks up the tag, drags over Cassidy and then Ishii works over Butcher. Matt Hardy and Bunny get on the apron, and Bunny sneaks the brass knuckles to Blade. Rocky Romero pulls Blade out before he can use them on Ishii, although I could see Ishii taking a brass knuckle hit and just glaring at you.
Cassidy breaks up the fighting outside the ring and Ishii gets the sheer drop brain buster and covers Blade for the pin.
Your winners: Orange Cassidy and Tomohiro Ishii.
If New Japan was worried about how their people are being used, Ishii looked incredible and was used perfectly in the match.
Tony is in the back with FTR and Andrade Il Idolo. He asks if they are frustrated after their loss. Andrade says that he proved he is a better wrestler than Cody and Pac because he beat them clean. FTR says that they were robbed and they want an 8 man tag. Tully Blanchard says if Arn wants to poke his nose in, he's got one more match in him.
We get a video package of the match between Britt Baker and Tay Conti.
Tony is the back with Britt Baker and her entourage. She says she's getting tired of carrying the women's division. Baker says she is giving the spotlight to Jamie Hayter. Tony asks about Hayter's match with Thunder Rosa, and Baker says we don't say her name on Baker TV, but she will fall next week.
Nyla Rose w/Vickie Guerrero vs Hikaru Shida in the TBS Tournament
They start by throwing hands and Rose catches Shida's leaping knee. Shida gets the first two count. These two have worked together a few times in the past and they have kept the heat up between them, so they are fighting hard with a fast pace. Rose rolls out of the ring to slow things down and when Shida rolls out of the ring, Rose rolls in. When Shida rolls in, Rose is able to attack as she does so and starts working Shida over.
Rose works over Shida's leg to try to stop the knee strikes. Vickie does get a quick choke with the Kendo stick as the ref's back is turned. The match goes to the outside and Shida sets up the chair for her leap, but Rose clotheslines her. She sets Shida on the chair and then tries for a rolling senton, but Shida gets out of the way and Rose hits the chair.
Shida is able to take the Kendo from Vickie and then nails her with it in revenge for the attack from Vickie over the weekend. Shida goes into the ring to take a beat down from Rose on the small screen.
When they go full screen again, Serena Deeb clips Shida's knee and tosses her into the ring. Rose puts Shida on the ropes and leg drops onto her and gets a two count. Rose sets up for the beast bomb, but Shida reverse it and locks on her arm bar. Rose lifts Shida and power bombs her and then hits a senton on Shida's knee. Rose goes for a second senton, and Shida dodges and rolls up Rose for a two count.
Rose is able to grab Shida's bad leg in the stretch muffler and Shida has to tap out.
Your winner and moving on in the TBS tournament: Nyla Rose
Good way to move Shida into a feud with Deeb, which will give us some great matches.
We then get a video of Malakai Black talking about how he will crush Cody's team. Nice short promo.
MJF comes out to join commentary. He is on his way to the ring first. And he is wearing a green corduroy suit. He's with Wardlow and Shawn Spears
MJF says he can't do it and hands the mic to Spears who introduces him. MJF heels the crowd, the state and then says he deserves to be the AEW World Champion, and no one in the locker room is on his level.
CM Punk's music hits.
CM Punk comes to the ring.
CM Punk gets face to face with MJF.
They both wait and let the crowd react. MJF then introduces himself and holds his hand out for a handshake. Punk stares at it, laughs and walks off.
In the back, Tony is with Darby Allin and Darby says MJF didn't break him mentally, and they will meet again. Darby says he wants the biggest and the baddest. Billy Gunn and his sons, the Ass Boys (according to Danhousen) accept his challenge.
In the back, Adam Cole and Bobby Fish challenge Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus for a match Friday because the Young Bucks are not cleared to wrestle. Fish starts to say That's Undisputed, but is stopped because you can't say that here.
Lio Rush and Dante Martin vs The Acclaimed
We get a recap of Team Taz trying to recruit Dante Martin and this match is because the Acclaimed ried to recruit him as well.
Dante and Lio attack before the bell, but not before the rap on the way to the ring, so I am sad about that. Dante and Lio do a series of quick team moves on Bowens and look amazing doing it. Dante gets dragged out of the ring and is double teamed by the Acclaimed. He's tossed back in so Caster can get some ring time. Caster just doesn't do anything for me in the ring, and I just wait from him to tag out so Bowens can tag in and the match can start again. Dante gets the beatdown from Caster on the small screen.
When we return to full screen, Dante is able to tag in Lio Rush who cleans house with incredible speed. It ends with a two count pin by Lio. The match keeps up the speed as Dante gets involved and it ends with all four men down. Bowens stops Lio's tag and Caster gets tagged in and Dante gets dropped. Caster hits a mic drop and Bowers covers for two, broken up by Dante.
Dante hits the two rope jump moonsault, and then rolls Bowens into position for Lio Rush's frog splash for the three count.
Your winners: Lio Rush and Dante Martin
Team Taz comes out on the stage and Taz says that he offered a contract to Dante because it's just business. Tax says they will be patient. Ricky Starks gives the hard sell about why he should going Team Taz. They leave as Lio Rush is talking to Dante.
In the back, Christian says that while the Elite had their worst night, they had their best night. He says never bring a fish to a fist fight. Jungle Boy accepts the challenge for Friday, and we get a rundown of the card for Ram,page Friday night and next week's Dynamite card.
The Lucha Brothers then answer FTR's challenge and they have something special in for the 8 man tag next week.
Sammy Guevara (TNT champion) vs Jay Lethal
Jay's entrance theme is a riff on Pomp and Circumstance, for those who get that reference. Jay gives a great promo in the back played through his entrance. I will admit, I am so glad Lethal in AEW, but not nearly as happy and excited as he is.
Tony Nese is at ringside watching the match.
They trader quick pin attempts to start the match and then go face to face after the exchanges. Jay then starts working over Sammy by attacking Sammy's taped ribs;. When Jay is knocked outside the ring, Sammy leaps onto him and leads on him ribs first and shows pain. They roll into the ring and Sammy goes for a shooting star press and Jay gets his knees up as they go to the small screen. They spend most of the commercial brawling outside the ring with Sammy taking the abuse. Sammy is even looked at by the Doctor.
When they are full screen again, Sammy shoves the doctor away and rolls into the ring. Sammy shoves Jay and Jay comes for him and they throw hands. After Sammy blocks a Lethal Injection, Sammy hits a Spanish Fly. Jay rolls out of the ring and when Sammy goes for the leap, Jay stops him. They go outside the ring and Sammy gets a brain buster on Jay out on the floor.
They brawl on the floor and knocks Jay onto the timekeeper's table. Sammy goes to the top and leaps but Jay moves at the last minute and Sammy goes through the table. Jay rolls Sammy into the ring and goes to the top; He goes for the elbow drop and Sammy is able to counter and roll up for a two count. Lethal gets a slam on Sammy and a two count. Jay gets a figure four and Sammy has to crawl to the ropes, but Jay drags him back.
Sammy is finally able to get to the ropes for a break. The crowd chants fight forever, and Jay goes for the abdominal stretch and Sammy is able to hit with a rising knee strike. Jay tries for a dragon suplex but Sammy is able to land on his feet and hit a pair of knee strikes. Sammy is able to hit Jay with the GTH and cover Jay for a three count.
Your winner and still TNT Champion: Sammy Guevara.
Jericho and the Inner Circle come to the ring for a celebration and we're out of time!
