Ten Years Of WildKat Sports & Entertainment
Year One: 2011 "It Begins"
This November marks ten years since the first WildKat Sports Event took place. It's hard to believe it's already been a decade since WildKat brought professional wrestling back to to the greater New Orleans area!
Professional wrestling has had a long, rich history in New Orleans. From the late 70s with Mid-South Wrestling and the Junkyard Dog, to the NWA in the 80s and WCW in the 90s, Professional wrestling has always had a home in the Big Easy.
After the territories died out, pro wrestling slowly became a rarity, and aside from the couple times a year that WWE would tour through town, it was slim pickings for wrestling fans in the area.. There was no home promotion, no continual live events, and more specifically, there was no school for young aspiring wrestlers to train.
That all changed in 2011 with the founding of WildKat Sports & Entertainment. Headed by coaches Luke Hawx and former WWE U.S. Champion Orlando Jordan, New Orleans would finally had a training facility where local athletes could learn their craft and turn their dreams into a reality. Luke Hawx, a New Orleans native, had to travel the country to be able to break into the wrestling business, and had dreamed of bringing that knowledge and oppurtunity to his home of New Orleans. Now that dream was a reality, and the WildKat Sports training facility welcomed their first class in the summer of 2011, featuring a young Matt Lancie and a "handsome" Chris Harper.
In early November, WildKat would put on their first show, featuring experienced veterans like Rodney Mack and Steve Antony as well as many up and coming WildKat Trainees. It was off to the races, as WildKat had finally brought professional wrestling back to New Orleans. This, of course, was only the beginning.
