New York Wrestling Connection wrestlers Michael Mistretta, "Man Bun Jesus" John Dalrymple and "Groovy Grizzly" (played by Sal Savelli) appeared on today's episode of Judge Jerry with Jerry Springer (yes, that one) presiding over Mistretta suing Dalrymple for $400 for not paying his share of their travel expenses on the road as independent pro wrestlers. Damrymple's argument was that since he was doing the driving, the expenses evened out.
Damrymple came out in full gimmick and character, leading to Springer remarking he felt like he was back on his old show.
It was explained that the two have known each other for five years after meeting at the same wrestling school and are arch-enemies in the ring. They argued over who was the better wrestler.
Mistretta explained that as independent wrestlers, they travel around the Tri-State area and beyond performing while seeking to get themselves into a position where they can wrestle full-time as a living, so traveling together makes it more cost-efficient.
Mistretta testified there was one trip where Dalrymple "cried poverty" so Mistretta covered the entirety of the expenses for the trip, expecting to be paid back. On the trip from Long Island to South Jersey, Mistretta stated that he paid for the gas and tolls, then a hotel because Dalrymple didn't want to travel back that night due to bad weather as well as food on the road, totaling about $400.
Dalrymple claimed that Mistretta told him he had the trip covered, which Mistretta stated was not the case. Mistretta quipped that Dalrymple was always crying poverty but had money for others things, "including a gym membership he obviously doesn't use" so he should cancel that and use the money to pay Mistretta back.
Dalrymple brought photo evidence that it was hit card followed by video evidence of the two wrestling, which including him doing a flip dive over the top to the floor. Mistretta pointed out that he was the one who won the match. Dalrymple claimed that Mistretta cheated to beat him after attacking the Groovy Grizzly and impersonating him.
Springer ruled that since Dalrymple's car was used, Mistretta should pay for the gas. The remainder of the expenses should have been split 50/50.
Springer asked for receipts. Mistretta sent they were given to Dalrymple. Dalrymple gave them to the Groovy Grizzly. Springer questioned Mistretta why he wouldn't bring any credit card receipts or proof of what was owed and since he didn't have it, Springer dismissed the case.
In post-case interviews, Mistretta said he was going to have to avoid traveling with Dalrymple going forward and said he may be the villain in the ring, but Dalrymple was the villain here.
