10/25 NJPW ROAD TO POWER STRUGGLE IN TOKYO, JAPAN REPORT

By James Kurokawa on 2021-10-25 19:31:00

10/25/21 Results for New Japan's Road to Power Struggle from Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Japan:

Ryohei Oiwa vs. SHO

The match spilled to the floor.  SHO tried to choke Oiwa with the guardrail gate.  This looked nasty.   Oiwa was bleeding from the mouth.  Oiwa tried to fight back with multiple elbows.  SHO planted him on his head with a deadlift German suplex.  Oiwa looked dazed.  SHO applied the Snake Bite.

The referee stopped the match as Oiwa was unresponsive.   SHO is the winner.

SHO looks to be getting comfortable in his heel role, and looks like he is having fun with it.  He has adopted this "Murder Machine" persona and is working hard to perfect it.  This match was important in both giving Oiwa experience and help SHO develop his heel mentality.  It should be fun to watch what SHO can accomplish in the upcoming Best of Super Juniors.

Kosei Fujita and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Hiromu Takahashi and BUSHI

BUSHI comes to the ring wearing a hybrid Lucha and Iron Man mask.   Very cool.

BUSHI forces Fujita to tap out to a Boston Crab.

Togi Makabe and Toru Yano vs. Great O-Khan and Aaron Henare

United Empire attacks before the bell.  They all fight on the floor. Makabe is thrown into a guardrail.  United Empire focus their energy on attacking Yano.  They double team Yano and Henare kicks him in the leg.   Henare applies an ankle lock submission.  Yano gets a break in the ropes.  O-Khan tags in and hits Yano with Mongolian chops.  Yano surprises O-Khan with a fireman's carry slam and makes the hot tag to Makabe.  Makabe knocks Henare from the ring apron and drops O-Khan with a lariat.   O-Khan grabs the ears of Makabe and throws him back on the mat.  Henare tags in.  He exchanges elbows with Makabe.  Henare comes off the ropes, but Yano trips him.  O-Khan goes to attack Yano.  They go to the floor.  Makabe with a lariat on Henare.  Two count.  Makabe missed a knee drop from the top rope.  O-Khan picks up Makabe and whips him into the corner.  Henare hits a high knee to Makabe.  O-Khan follows with lariat.  United Empire with a double boot.  Henare makes the cover.  Makabe kicks out at two.  Makabe hits Henare with chops.  Henare with a headbutt to Makabe's chin.  Henare hits the Streets of Rage.

Henare pins Makabe.

After the match, O-Khan tries to make Yano kiss his boots.   Yano escapes and runs back to the locker.

Tomoaki Honma and Satoshi Kojima vs. Shingo Takagi and SANADA

SANADA forces Honma to submit to Skull End.

Solid exhibition match.  Fine for what it was.

Master Wato, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Tiger Mask and Robbie Eagles vs. El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI and Zack Sabre Jr.

Kanemaru tries to take off the mask of Tiger Mask in the early moments.  Eagles makes the save for his tag partner immediately.  DOUKI and Wato tag in.  Wato takes DOUKI down with a Frankensteiner.  The baby face team makes multiple tags to attack DOUKI.  Suzuki-Gun charge from their corner and attack everyone.  Desperado and Kanemaru corner Wato and throw him into guardrail.  Kanemaru hits a dropkick to the face and Desperado follows with a right fist to Wato's jaw.  ZSJ tags in and ties Wato's legs into a pretzel.  Wato screams and goes for the ropes.  Kanemaru tags in and stomps on the chest and back of Wato.  Desperado tags in and Wato hits him with a leg lariat.  Wato tags in Tiger Mask.  Kanemaru jump in the ring and so does Eagles.   Pace quickens as the Jr. Tag Champs face their challengers.  ZSJ and Tenzan tag in.  Tenzan applies the Anaconda Vice.  Desperado stomps Tenzan in the face.  Total chaos as bodies are flying everywhere.  ZSJ traps Tenzan in an Octopus Lock.

Tenzan submits.

Eagles and Tiger Mask have words with Desperado and Kanemaru.   They will meet tomorrow for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles.

Prediction for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match:  Eagles already holds the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title.  He does not need two belts.  Heading into the Best of Super Juniors, it makes no sense to have Eagles have all the titles.  New Japan cannot afford an injury to Eagles if he holds two belts.  Desperado and Kanemaru should retain the tag titles.

Elimination Match:  YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi, Tanga Loa, Tama Tonga and KENTA, with Dick Togo and Jado.

The baby faces attacked once Bullet Club did the Two Sweet Salute.

Chaotic match.

Tama Tonga and Okada eliminate each other over the top rope.  They continue to battle on the floor, till they have to be pulled apart.

Ishii eliminates Tanga Loa over the top.

Takahashi eliminates Ishii over the top.

YOSHI-HASHI eliminates Takahashi over the top.

EVIL distracts the referee.  SHO comes to the ring and spears YOSHI-HASHI.  EVIL eliminates YOSHI-HASHI over the top.  Ishii goes after SHO who ran to the locker room.

EVIL and Togo eliminate Goto over the top.

Tanahashi eliminates EVIL over the top.

Tanahashi eliminates KENTA over the top.

Tanahashi wins the match for his team.

After the match, Tanahashi takes his U.S. Heavyweight belt back.  KENTA wants to steal it back and Tanahashi tries to bait him to come in the ring to take it.  KENTA retreats to the locker room.  Tanahashi performs his air guitar to send the crowd home happy.
