It is Saturday, we are in Orlando Florida at the Addition Financial Arena, and our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.
Dustin Rhodes vs Bryan Danielson World Championship Tournament
They start with a handshake. Dustin towers of Bryan, and they start with exchanging arm bars, then Bryan turns it into mat wrestling. Dustin takes control when Bryan leaps into him on the floor and Dustin side steps and pushes him into the barricade, but when they return to the ring, Bryan is back in control and keeps going after one of Dustin's legs.
Dustin's attacks are mostly chops and tosses to the corner while Bryan works to bring Dustin down for mat work. The clash of styles rally works in this one. It also gives a clear demarcation of who is in control. Dustin is able to get a super plex off the top. When they get up, they throw hands in the middle of the ring. Dustin is able to get his spinning power slam and follows with a quick slam and a two count.
Danielson is able to escape a bulldog and then takes over in the corner. Dustin stops him and hits a clothesline from the top and a two count, but Bryan switches it and tries to lock in a submission hold. Dustin keeps him from locking it in and gets the rope. The crowd is LOUD for this one, and they don't have a favorite, cheering any strike they throw.
Bryan gets a quick rollup for a two count. He then is able to get up and stomp Dustin's head. Dustin suckers Bryan in, clotheslines him, pile drives him and gets a two count. This craw is excited by every near fall. Bryan is able to get a series of kicks and then locks in the guillotine choke. Dustin slowly drops and then goes out, giving Bryan the win.
Your winner and advancing in the tournament: Bryan Danielson
Great opener and every match Bryan has had has been a joy to watch. Dustin presented a different challenge showing Bryan can work against bigger opponents.
In the back, Kenny Omega is with the Bucks and Adam Cole. He puts over that he knows all of Adam Page's insecurities, all of his weaknesses, and that he will beat him easily. Nice start to the build, working on the stuff they built up months ago. I have said in the past that they need to rebuild this feud, but with Page's reaction last week, I think the AEW audience is keyed in to what the match the PPV will mean.
We then get a video package of FTR and Penta talking about their upcoming match at Full Gear.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring to talk to the man called Sting about Darby Allin. Before Sting can say anything MJF comes to the stage. MJF says that Darby Allin isn't coming back after running down Florida and Tony. He says that everyone who is ever friends with Sting eventually gets left. When MJF hits the ring, Sting pops him a good one. Wardlow and Sean Spears come to the ring and take out Sting with a chair.
MJF then asks Darby if he's broken him now. He holds Sting's limp body to the camera and says the fans can chant his name all he wants, but he will always be second best to him.
As they leave, Sting starts to get up and MJF nails Sting again with the Dynamite Diamond ring.
MJF is always a great promo, and he puts in stuff that “crosses the line” which gives him true heel heat. A predictable segment, but as long as MJF has the mic in his hand, it'll be a good segment.
Backstage Tony is with Britt Baker and he says that Tay Conti will be facing her at Full Gear. Baker says that if Conti would have worked her way to the top, they could have had a good match, but instead, because she put her hands on Baker's title, she'll just get her ass beat.
Penelope Ford vs Ruby Soho TBS Championship Tournament match
Ford starts by tosses her leather jacket over Soho's face and gets in first strikes, but Soho recovers quickly. They trade offense, but Soho is able to take Ford down with a series of quick kicks. As they are fighting on the apron, Bunny skips down the ring and distracts Solo to allow Ford to take over. Ford works Soho over on the small screen.
When they return to full screen, both are on the mat, struggling to get up. Soho is able to nail Ford with chops, kicks and knee strikes. Soho covers for a two count. They struggle a bit and Ford hits a back bend to dodge a strike from Soho. Soho tries to pick her up for a slam, but just can't lift her. The announcers say that Ford had gone dead weight. They give up on it and Ford hits a cutter off the ropes and gets a two count on Soho.
Soho is able to hit a back heel trip and climbs to the top. Ford gets up and Soho leaps over her. Ford hits a gut cracker on Soho and then covers for a two count. Bunny tosses in the brass knuckles, but the ref sees them and kicks them out of the ring. Ford chases them to the apron edge and Soho rolsl her up for a three count and the win.
Your winner and advancing in the tournament: Ruby Soho
Bunny and Ford look to attack Soho, but Red Velvet runs to the ring to make sure the odds are even. Ford and Bunny leave the ring.
In the back, MJF is starting to talk and Wardlow asks why he shoved him in front of Sting. MJF says he panics, but he wanted to talk to him. There has been a lot of pressure on him, so he has assigned Shawn pears to be his Accountabuddy to keep him accountable.
Bobby Fish vs Anthony Greene
Bobby's opponent is in the ring already, so I doubt this will be a long match.
Fish goes after him with strikes, and Greene goes to the top for a cross body. Fish escapes easily and takes over again with strikes. He runs Greene into the corner, hits a Dragon Screw. Fish suplexes Greene into the ropes and Fish hits the last rites spinning kick and covers for the three count.
Your winner: Bobby Fish
Greene is struggling to get up and Fish is leaving and Fish comes into the ring and attacking him, nailing him with forearms on the mat. Fish locks in a sleeper and CM Punk runs to the ring to chase Fish off. They have words with Punk in the ring and Fish on the floor.
An OK showcase for Fish to show his style and keep establishing himself.
In the back, Tony is with Lio Rush and Dante Martin. Lio says that anything he does, he does big. He will be mentoring Dante doing better than Matt Sydal. He then says that he can beat Matt Sydal, so next week, he and Dante will meet the Sydal brothers on Rampage.
Lance Archer vs Eddie Kingston World Title Tournament match
Kingston attacks Archer as he is coming down the ramp. They brawl down the ramp and around the ring. Archer picks up and fan and slams him onto Kingston twice.
When the bell rings, Archer had Eddie in the corner and beats the tar out of him. Archer goes for Blackout and Eddie escapes by putting a cross face on. He tries to change it to Stretch Club, but Archer escapes and clotheslines them both down as the go to the small screen. They move to brawling on the floor with Eddie barely able to stand, but trying to be defiant. When they return to the ring, Eddie doesn't fare much better.
When they return to the big screen, Archer slams Eddie and leaps onto him, covering for a two count. Archer goads Eddie into slapping him and then Archer drops him. Archer then manhandles Eddie in the corner. Eddie is able to dodge a change, but he then curb stomps Eddie. Archer misses a moonsault as Eddie rolls out of the way.
They show Tony Nese is at ringside.
Both Archer and Eddie are down, and the ref is checking on Archer, who hit his head on the moonsault. Archer rolls out of the ring and the Doc checks on him. He then rolls into the ring and Eddie gets a quick rollup and the three count.
Your winner and advancing in the tournament: Eddie Kingston
Eddie took a beating, and grabbed the victory after Archer seemed to hurt himself. I would have liked to see Eddie get in moe offense, since he got in next to nothing.
When we get back from commercial, Dan Lambert and the Men of the Year have hit the ring. Ethan Page reminds us the Inner Circle sucks. He runs down each member individually. After a rather uninspired promo, Sammy Guevara comes out and tells him to shut up.
He says that rather than bitching and moaning, he worked his ass off and became TNT champion. He then asks Lambert for his stipulations and starts the crowd calling him a fat faced dipshit, which he goes ballistic over.
Lambert says they have the ten man tag if he comes to Dynamite and puts his title on the line against Ethan Page. And, if he loses, he loses his title and leaves the Inner Circle forever.
Sammy agrees under one condition. When he wins, he picks the three members of America's Top Team in the tag team match.
Ethan then says he should accept the ass beating he's about to get, and as they come up the ramp, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz come out and drive them off through the crowd.
Not much of a stipulation, but good enough for the lead in to this week's Dynamite.
We go to the back when Mox says he is thinking about his daughter. He should be ranting about the tournament, but he is thinking about hos his daughter grabbed his pinky and squeezed. He doesn't care about the tournament, the ratings, the title, any of it. He then says he wants to get him with his teeth in his head and that means he has to win the tournament.
Sammy has his signs during the commercial on the small screen, mocking America's top team.
In the back, Dark Order with joined by Adam Page and his beer. He says he's sorry for not catching up with them sooner and everything that happened after he left. He says if they are going after the Elite, next week, they will have costumes, so they should have costumes.
Jungle Boy vs Brandon Cutler
OK, Cutler gets in a kick in the corner, a slap and that's it/
JB locks him in a snare trap and the match is less than a minute.
Your winner: Jungle Boy
JB has a mic, which is shocking enough on its own. He says that was a nice warm up and he's feeling good and ready to go again. He calls out the Elite. No one comes out so he locks Cutler into the snare trap again, and puts the mic to Culter's face where he calls for help.
Adam Cole comes out and says they should fight right here, right now.
As Cole comes down to the ring, the Bucks come in the back of the ring and take out JB. They drag JB up the ramp and give him a BTE trigger on the stage. Cole hits the running knee to the back of the head. Cole hold JB as the Bucks give him a kiss on the cheeks, and then Cole tosses JB off the stage through a table.
We get a rundown of Wednesday's card and then the matches for Friday night Rampage.
We then get a video of Miro saying how angry he is that his God is ignoring him. God's forsaken champion will become God's favorite champion again. Great tough scary promo.
The lights go out and JR says “Where's my wallet” as a tribute to Bobby Heenan.
Malakai Black vs Cody Rhodes
They lock and Cody is able to take Black down. Black is able to scramble back and get up. They trade takedows and take overs. Cody is able to get Black's leg and stomp on his head to get some control, hut when they are to their feet, Black nails a back elbow. Ant time one takes the other down they only get a one count. Great start that puts over how much they hate each other.
Cody is getting cheered, by the way.
Black tosses a chair in the ring, but Cody grabs it as Brock Anderson and Lee Johnson come to ringside. Cody gives them the chair on the small screen and they shove it under the ring. The brawl continues and Black sets up a table at ringside.
When we go back to full screen, Cody drove Black through the table with the crossroads. Black si bleeding and He tosses Cody away and goes for the chair under the ring. Arn Anderson is in the ring. Cody is bleeding now too due to the ringpost he was shoved into. Both men are struggling to get to their feet. Cody is up first but he and Black are both struggling to get into the ring. Andrade comes out and Arn sees that Black's assistant is in the ring for Arn to hit a spinebuster on.
Black nails Arn with the black mist. Pac attacks Andrade on the ramp. Cody is able to hit a crossroads on Black for a two count. LOTS of stuff going on in this match.
Cody stomps a mudhole in Black and lifts him for a brainbuster, but Black escapes and knocks Cody down. He leaps off the rope for a foot stomp, then a German suplex and holds it for a two count. Black is able to hit the back heel kick and Cody rolls tot he ropes and holds on as Black tries to pull him out. Black misses a leap off the top rope to the floor and lands on his feet and Cory hits a Tope. Cody rolls him into the ring for a cutter, a crossroads and then a tiger driver 98. Cody covers for the three count and the win.
Your winner: Cody Rhodes
