It's Saturday Night! And you know what that means. Other than my social calendar being devoid of excitement, it's AEW Dynamite! Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross and Excalibur have the call of the action tonight. I think I speak for everyone in wishing Good Ol JR a speedy recovery from skin cancer. Interesting to see which AEW stars are with us tonight, as the Jericho Cruise is in full force as we speak. After 2 crushing defeats, can Cody Rhodes finally solve the Malakai Black mystery.
AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament 1st Round: Dustin Rhodes vs. Bryan Danielson
It's the odds on favorite vs. the sentimental favorite. Code of Honor adhered to and Danielson fires up the crowd. Lockup, arm twist into a hammerlock by Danielson, reversed by Rhodes. Headlock by Danielson, takedown by Rhodes. Headlock, shoulder tackle by Rhodes, Danielson scores a hip toss and both men are back to square 1.
Test of strength, Danielson with a takedown and ties up Rhodes' leg and drives the knee into Rhodes' ribs. Leglock applied by Danielson, he rocks back. Bow and arrow stretch by Danielson, Rhodes makes the ropes. Dustin's a little frustrated. Lockup, Danielson with a series of punches off the ropes but Rhodes with an uppercut. Rhodes momentum takes him over the top. Danielson tries a tope but gets sidestepped. Rhodes with a cannonball and throws Danielson back in for a 2 count. Rhodes goes to work on the arm but Danielson with a hard kick and Rhodes goes down. Kick and uppercut by Danielson, Rhodes with an armdrag and a kick of his own. Rhodes with chops in the corner.
Danielson with a chop of his own and a kick into a front chancery. Danielson tries an arm breaker, Rhodes blocks it. Danielson stomps the arm. Tony Nese is shown and acknowledged in crowd. Superplex by Rhodes for 2. The crowd is very appreciative of what they're seeing (so am I). They exchange right hands. Danielson flips over Rhodes in the corner but eats a powerslam and a curtain call for 2. Rhodes pounds away on the corner with a 10 pack of punches. Danielson blocks a bulldog and hits a running dropkick in the corner. Kicks and chops by Danielson, he goes for a hurancanrana but Rhodes shoves him off. He hits a clothesline but Danielson takes him down an applies the LAbelle Lock. Rhodes makes the ropes and they exchange fired up punches. Danielson with a backslide for 2. Danielson with this patented stomps. Danielson tries his running knee but gets clotheslined. Rhodes with a piledriver for 2.
THIS IS A GREAT MATCH!
Roundhouse kicks by Danielson and he applies a guillotine. Rhodes slumps down and goes limp. Referee has no choice but to call it.
WINNER: Bryan Danielson
The Super Elite in the back. They're having a good laugh over the Dark Order vs Elite match this week. Omega makes fun of Hangman Adam Page's insecurity. The Super Elite are amused by Omega's promo.
FTR is in the back, proud to be AAA World Tag Team Champions. Not good enough, they say. At Full Gear, they're coming for the Lucha Bros. Penta (via Alex Abrahames) is out for revenge after what happened last week.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring to get an update on the condition of Darby Allin. Tony brings out Sting as only he can. Winter is Coming to Orlando. Tony gets a question off but MJF's music comes up as MJF comes out and asks Orlando to show some class. The last thing he wants to do is embarrass Sting by making him tell the truth about Darby Allin never coming back to wrestling. WOW! MJF makes a Sting allegedly using cocaine in the 1980s reference (which I have absolutely no idea about). MJF warns Sting that Allin is going to end up like Lex Luger. Sting has had enough and attacks him. Shawn Spears and Wardlow make the save. Spears, as the chairman, goes to town on the icon. Spears sets up the chair and MJF calmly sits down and executes a warning for Darby Allin as he holds Sting's limp head up. If this were the 1970s-early 1980s southern wrestling, Friedman would have caused a riot, no doubt about it. Jim Ross feels like he needs a shower after this. MJF with one more shot to Sting using the Dynamite Diamond.
Tony is with AEW World Champion Dr. Britt Baker. It's announced that she'll defend against Tay Conti at Full Gear. I love how Schiavone plays subtle heel when he's with her.
TBS Championship Tournament 1st Round: Ruby Soho vs. Penelope Ford
Ford throws her ring jacket in Soho's face and pounds away. Soho quickly makes a comeback but Ford with a hairpull. Kick to the midsection by Ford and Ford pounds away in the corner and a handspring spear in the corner. Headlock by Ford, Soho shoves her off and nails a side kick for 2. Soho with a PK on the apron as the Bunny skips down to ringside. Ford kicks Ruby into the corner and poses over her prone opponent as we go to commercial.
We're back and both women are down. The Bunny is screaming encouragement to Ford. Ford with a his toss but a knee strike by Soho and a clothesline to the back of the head for 2. Back elbow by Ford. Stunner by Ford for 2. Small package by Soho for 2. Takedown by Soho and Ruby climbs the ropes. Ford gets to her feet and Soho jumps off. Kick by Ford and a gut buster for 2. Bunny is not happy. She throws the brass knux into the ring but Soho with a rolling reverse for the pin.
WINNER: Ruby Soho
Bunny and Ford go for an attack but Red Velvet with the save. It'll be Kris Statlander vs Soho in Round 2.
MJF and Shawn Spears are in the back. Wardlow shows up and wants to know why MJF threw him in front of Sting. MJF apologizes and says he's assigned Spears as his accountabilibuddy from now on.
Bobby Fish vs. Anthony Greene
Forearms by Fish puts Greene on the mat. Greene leaps to the top and hits a cross body for 1. Uppercut by Fish into a hard snap mare and an outside-in senton for 2. Cravate by Fish and he tackles Greene into the corner and mauls Greene with kicks. Sliding lariat by Fish. Exploder by Fish into the ropes and a knockout kick for the pin.
WINNER: Bobby Fish
Fish with another kick for good measure. Fish with ground and pound. CM Punk makes the save and Orlando loses its collective mind. I sense a big match coming up soon. Fish mocks Punk as he walks back up the aisle.
Tony is with Lio Rush and Dante Martin. Lio says he needs to mentor Martin. He runs down Matt Sydal and Martin defends his friend. Rush sets up a match between the two against the Sydal Brothers for Rampage.
AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament 1st Round: Lance Archer vs Eddie Kingston
Kingston attacks Archer in the aisle. Archer with a forearm. Archer blocks a drop tor hold on the outside and bodyslams a fan who looks EXACTLY like a Mulkey onto Kingston. Said fan then gets chokeslammed into Kingston. They finally make it to the ring and the match officially beings. Big chops by Archer. Archer sets him up for blackout but Eddie slips out into a Dragon Sleeper. Eddie with punches but a big lariat by Archer as we go to commercial.
Bodyslam by Archer as we return. Splash by Archer for 2. Eddie struggles to his feet but Archer drops him hard. Archer rakes his eyes in the corner but misses a charge. Eddie with a charge of his own and Kingston meets him with a big boot to the face.
Tony Nese is shown again. Archer slips out and Doc Sampson checks on him. Archer rolls back in and gets immediately rolled up for the pin.
WINNER: Eddie Kingston
I hope Archer is OK. Dr. Sampson hovering over him again. Something seems to have gone wrong somewhere.
Dan Lambert, Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page are in the the ring running down the Inner Circle. Page is really coming into his own on the mic and he specifically runs down Jericho. Sammy Guevara comes out after being called a PR nightmare. He's got some choice words for American Top Team. Sammy wants to know the impending stipulations. Lambert tells him it'll be a 10 Man Tag IF Guevara puts the TNT title up against Page in Boston. If Guevera loses the title to Page, he must leave the Inner Circle. If Sammy wins, he picks the 3 members of American Top Team that'll compete at Full Gear. The Men of the Year attack Sammy but Santana, Ortiz and Jake Hager make the save.
Jon Moxley is in the bowels of the arena talking about the Title Eliminator Tournament. His daughter is on his mind. He doesn't care about anything AEW holds dear. His daughter is all that matters. For him to take care of her, others have to get hurt. He's winning this tournament because he has to for her.
The Dark Order is joined by Hangman Page. He apologizes for leaving them but, if they're going back after the Elite, they've got to outdo them on the Halloween episode.
Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs Brandon Cutler
Clothesline by Perry sends Cutler out and nails a Tope suicida. He throws Cutler in, who tries a Panama Sunrise. Perry throws him half across the ring and nails a powerbomb and Snare Trap, forcing Cutler to immediately tap.
WINNER: Jungle Boy
Jungle Boy takes the mic. The thanks Orlando and gives Cutler props for the effort. He wants to go again and challenges an Elite member to face him right now. He reapplies the Snare Trap, which brings out Adam Cole. Cole says he's an embarrassment and says they can go here and now. Cole approaches the ring and the Young Bucks with a double superkick from behind. The Super Elite beat Jungle Boy to the ramp and nail the BTE Trigger. Cole with a knee strike to the back of the head and the Super Elite throw Perry off the stage through a table. Tony Schiavone declares his hatred of Adam Cole.
Miro declares that God is out of time and his wife needs her champion back. How dare God forsake his favorite champion? His words, NOT mine. Everything that happens from here on out is on God's hands. Again, his words, not mine.
Cody Rhodes w/Arn Anderson vs. Malakai Black
Lockup, standing switch by Black. Takedown by Rhodes but a front facelock by Black. Black with a side headlock takedown. They exchange punches but Black scores with a leg kick. Black with a knee bar. Cody turns into it and stomps Black's face. Punch but Rhodes but a back elbow by Black, Rhodes with one of his own and a deep powerslam by Cody. Cody goes for the figure 4 but Black with an eye rake. Black brings in a chair. Brock Anderson and Lee Johnson come to ringside as we go to commercial.
We're back live and Rhodes nailed a Cross Rhodes through a table to Black on a table to the floor. Black is busted open. Arn Anderson climbs into the ring. Rhodes is also bleeding from a post shot as both struggle to their feet. Andrade El Idolo comes out as well. Jose goes to attack Arn but eats a spinebuster. Pac attacks Idolo and they fight on back. Arn gets a facefull of mist. Rhodes and Black slug it out. CrossRhodes for 2 by Cody. Orlando is not on his side. Rhodes stomps Black down. Black with a kick, Rhodes goes down and Black with a double stomp off the top and German suplex for 2. Black Mass by Black and Cody falls into the ropes. Rhodes gets him to the outside and hits a tope. Cody cutter and a Cross Rhodes by Cody. Cody with a Tiger Driver 98 for the pin.
WINNER: Cody Rhodes
The crowd is not booing this as vociferously as they were during the match.
