GCW PRESENTS JOSH BARNETT'S BLOODSPORT 7 IN LOS ANGELES REPORT

GCW “Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 7”

I’m staying up tonight for y’all…and for blood…and sports. We get the initial lineup ceremony and introduction for all of tonight’s competitors, including the man himself Josh Barnett. Chris Dickinson takes the mic and gets everyone hyped for the chaos to come. No ropes. Fights only end in KO or submission. Let’s gooooooo! 

Match 1: Starboy Charlie vs Yoya

Yoya runs in and gets slammed to the mat. Charlie has the waist and germans Yoya down. Yoya rolls out of danger and tries to stand up with Starboy. Charlie comes in but Yoya stuffs him and fights closes to the edge. Charlie with a belly to belly and dives into a guillotine. Yoya trying to escape but falls into a rear choke. Charlie floats over into an arm bar attempt but Yoya defending well. Yoya tries another kick but Charlie snaps it into an ankle lock. Yoya out but Charlie with a trio of germans! Yoya gets a kimura but CHarlie rolls through. Yoya rolls and flips Charlie into an arm bar of his own. Charlie out and charges in but eats a kick to the face. PK from Yoya and he drops bombs until the ref pulls him off. Great finish!

Winner: Yoya

Match 2: Zeda Zhang vs KZT

Zeda used to be in the WWE system but here’s a chance for her to show what she can do on a bigger stage. KZT is making her return after beating Janai Kai at BS6. Squared off in the stand up, KZT eats a couple of bombs early before getting tossed to the ground. Zeda with a double leg into a suplex and dropping punches before transitioning to an armbar attempt. KZT works out and grabs the arm, traps the head and pulls. Zeda frees herself and swinging wildly. Big body knees to KZT! KZT gets the takedown, steps into mount and wrenching at the arm again. Zeda bridges up and over but KZT is tenacious at working that wrist. Veda reverses, dropping bombs, KZT turtles up. Zeda comes in but KZT gets a scissor around the head and tries for that arm again. Zeda out of that but falls into a triangle choke. Zeda struggles out, KZT gets the read naked choke. Zeda  takes top again, drops bombs and breaks KZT’s grasps with a big slam. Squaring off again, Zeda throwing big leg kicks. KZT loses her feet and Zeda swinging wild and throwing knees. Rolling neck breaker into a north south choke. Zeda throwing knees to the ribs but KZY makes space. Zeda tries a crucifix, locking up KZT’s arm and throwing punches to the chest and chin repeatedly until the ref stops it. Good back and forth clash of styles here. They put on a good show!

Winner: Zeda Zhang

Match 3: Royce Issacs vs Clark Connors

Brief feeling out, they trade holds but quickly disengage. Royce tries a double leg but gets stuffed. Connors comes in hard but Issacs picks the ankle. Disengage and reset. Connors gets the waist but and tossed down into an ankle lock. Connors tries to transition to a choke but Royce throws him off. They throw wrestling to the side and start decking each other. Connors gets staggered with a left hand, Royce throws a high kick into Connors’ taped up shoulder. Royce swarms as Connors top and worka an arm bar. Connors breaks free but turns right into a double leg and has to fight for his arm again. Issacs wants it but Connors tries to deadlift out of there. Connors with a spear! Dropping punches and goes for a sleeper. Royce fights out, saito suplex, more punches. Royce tries the armbar, adding in kicks to the head. Connors absorbs it, transitions to the back and puts Royce in a sleeper hold and chokes his opponent out. 

Winner: Clark Connors

Match 4: Erik Hammer vs Bad Dude Tito 

Tito runs in and Erik gets the leg. Tito transitions to the waist and Erik gets away. Circling, Tito takes the leg but hammer takes the mount and throwing punches to the head. Tito throws him off and we reset. Tito with the takedown, takes mount, working to the arm bar. Hammer switches the position, dropping elbows until Tito falls out of the ring. Tito back in. Hammer comes in but Tito catches him and flips him now. Hammer tries a knee bar but Tito rolls out of danger, and crotch pulls him up into a suplex. Slugfest on the feet. Hammer throwing big knees. Tito crumbles and Hammer takes top. Tito picks the ankle but Hammer throwing fists down to break it. Hammer with a snap german and applies a wrist lock that a dazed Tito is forced to tap from. Great fight!

Winner: Erik Hammer

Match 5: Marina Shafir vs  Masha Slamovich

Marina has the MMA advantage as one of the Four Horsewomen but Masha’s been on a roll this past year. Shafir circling, tests with a kick, takes the leg. Marina dropping palm strikes, Masha scrambles but loses the back. Masha working to an arm bar but Shafir fighting out and falls back into a heel hook. Masha gets the ankle too and and the roll out of the ring in the hold. Masha with a punch and a senton to a stunned Marina on the outside. Masha takes the back and trying to choke her out. Marina reverses it, drops more palm strikes. Back to the feet, Masha tries a spinning back fist, Marina catches and judo throws her down.  Marina in full control as she taunts Masha. Slamovich grabs the ankle in desperation, Marina cartwheels out. Masha with a northern lights suplex into a cross arm breaker! Marina keeps the arms clasped. Back to the feet, Marina with a stretch muffler slam and slaps on a head and arm triangle that causes Masha to quickly take out. This was awesome. 

Winner: Marina Shafir

Zeda Zhang is out on the mic and upset with Shafir over their time at WWE. She challenges her to a future Bloodsport fight. Marina fakes out a handshake but I suspect this is happening at BS8. 

Match 6: Calvin Tankman vs JR Kratos

It’s midnight on the east coast or Hoss-o-clock, based on this matchup. Tentative standup testing. Tankman dodges a heavy swing. Lock up, testing power but they stall out. Calvin throws some bombs but Kratos is out of the way easy. Tankman wrestles Kratos to the mat, holding a front headlock and wearing down his opponent. Kratos back to his feet but Cal just bowls him over to the back. Kratos switches the position, looking for a wrist lock. Tankman gets into a standing guillotine, Kratos gets the head of Tankman and suplexes him over. Kratos wants Tankman on his feet. Kratos throwing bombs, Tankman staggers but launches Kratos with a german. Trading forearms in the center, both guys wobbling. Kratos fights back with a kick to the gut. Kratos with a few straight punches, a flying knee that drops Calvin and a falling punch to the face finishes the bout. Great fight to send us to intermission!

Winner: JR Kratos

Match 7: Alex Coughlin vs Filthy Tom Lawlor

Lawlor comes in, seemingly cosplaying as Coughlin. Coughlin is kinda thrown by this. Quick standup but Coughlin takes him down fast. Tom back up, tries to scramble but Coughlin controls him. Lawlor flips Coughlin in a takedown and works to a choke. Coughlin eats a palm strike to the ribs. Lawlor grapevines the legs but COughlin flips out of danger. Lawlor catches a kick and takes him right down but loses his ankle. Trading slaps and they get the ankles, escape! Grapple in the standup until Coughlin hits a big elbow. Coughlin comes in but eats a knee to the mid section that drops him. Lawlor quickly applies a head and arm choke. Coughlin fighting out of an armbar. Coughlin’s bridges and stands up out of the hold. One armed suplex drops Lawlor! Filthy Tom is tenacious and traps the head and pulls at the arm. Tom slapping at the ribs but Coughlin powers Lawlor up and suplex him back again. Coughlin going for a crab but Coughlin falls into a guillotine. Coughlin powering up but can’t muscle it up again. Lawlor goes from an omaplata to a heel hook. Coughlin fighting up but it forced to tap. Wild back and forth here. The crowd was SUPER into Coughlin’s insane power moves here. Lawlor offers a handshake. A frustrated and disrespected Coughlin slaps him across the face. That was awesome. 

Winner: Tom Lawlor

Match 8: Yuya Uemura vs Davey Richards

Davey trying to get the leg early but Yuya powers him off and reverses the hold. Yuya invites Davey into his guard. Davey acccepts with a double stomp and tries to take the back. Yuya steps through and wraps up the legs. Davey unwraps and throws a couple of shots to Uemura’s legs in return. Richards throwing kicks and big bomb forearms. Yuya throwing hands but dropped by a kick to the arm. The ref checking on him, it’s a fake out! Yuya shotgun dropkicks Davey out of the ring! Yuya swarms on the outside with punches. Richards thrown back in, eats a stomp and Yuya working the legs again. Davey rolls through, pick the ankle and stands up into the lock. Yuya throws him off. Richards running in, Davey eats a knee and he crumbles! Yuya swarms. Big side suplex! Yuya diving into a cross arm breaker! Davey rolls out and back into the ankle lock. Yuya throws him again but Richards won’t let the foot go. Yuya with up kicks , Davey transitions to the trailer hitch and a screaming Yuya taps out emphatically. Damn good battle.

Match 9: Tiger Ruas vs Josh Barnett

Test of early standup. Leg kicks to find range. Ruas gets the legs and rolls Barnett down but Josh escapes to his feet. Lockup and Ruas hits a good rib slap. Josh charges him to the mat but has to immediately defend a triangle. Barnett is out but Ruas gets the back and works to a arm and arm choke. Ruas landing some strikes and pulls the triangle. Barnett stacks him and grabs the leg into a knee bar quick. Ruas rolling out of danger, grabs a front headlock and toss Barnett toss with a fireman’s carry. Ruas working the arms across the chest. Barnett defending slaps and suplexes Ruas backwards, grabs mount and throws palm strikes. Transition to an arm bar. Ruas slips out, wraps up the legs and pulls back. He’s still in range to get punched in the face though. Ruas eats it and hits a northern lights. Ruas takes the back with a choke but Barnett gets to his feet and hits a sidewalk slam. Barnett might be getting tired. Ruas stomping the feet after surviving a wristlock. Ruas with a snap suplex. Back to the feet, trading kicks and strikes. Barnett connects with a high kick! Ruas staggered but hits a capo kick that staggers the war master. Big germ suplex from Ruas! Punching their way to their feet. Barnett locks in a front choke, hits a Michanoku driver and transitions right into the cross armbreaker. Tap out! Great technical war here in Ruas’ debut!

Main Event: Chris Dickinson vs Minoru Suzuki

Dickinson lost this matchup in 2020 due to the pandemic but patience is a virtue and the Dirty Daddy has his match with the legend back. Suzuki himself has been on an absolute tear around the US indies lately. Dickinson is all fired up for this main event clash. Dickinson in hot and works Suzuki to his back, throwing shots to the face. Suzuki reverses and Dickinson is out of dodge. Reset and Dickinson charges in, trying for a wristlock and knee bar but Suzuki controls the hold. Suzuki powders to the outside after Dickinson and takes a seat for a moment. He dares Dickinson to come fight him in the crowd. Suzuki returns too the ring finally with a smirk. Dickinson offers an amateur wrestle start, Suzuki grabs the back but Dickinson rolls it over fast. Trading choke attempts. Trading top and bottom. Suzuki trying a kimura from the top but Dickinson has it blocked. Suzuki working an armbar, twisting the wrist and the fingers. Dickinson pops out and grabs a heel hook. Suzuki screams in pain, falls back and laughs at Dickinson as he sits up. Dickinson flies into a rage of slaps and punches. Minoru to his feet and smiling. It’s time to test their chests with chops with increasing ferocity. HUGE slaps to the face. Dickinson finally runs in, standing switch, snap suplex!Dickinson right into a head and arm choke on Suzuki. Suzuki kicks out of an arm bar and grinds his fist into Dickinson’s eyes. The ref is forced to admonish him for eye gouging. Dickinson back up with a desire for more chops. Suzuki crumbles him with a chest chop. Suzuki grabs a double wrist lock. Suzuki grabs the arms and stomps out the dirty daddy’s face. Dickinson weathers the storm and pops up into an ankle lock. Suzuki reverses from an arm bar attempt. Suzuki walking him down and pummeling Dickinson. Dickinson firing up from a chop. He wants more! Suzuki staggers him but Dickinson keeps raging up. Suzuki with THAT evil smile of his as he comes in for more pain. Wild back and forth slaps. Dickinson and Suzki trading submission holds. Suzuki breaks out of a deep cross armbreaker. Suzuki powders for a few seconds to bring his arm back to life. Dickinson chopping down Suzuki with kicks but one gets caught. Suzuki drops Dickinson and pulls him into a single leg crab. Dickinson struggles but he’s forced to tap to the king. Hell yeah!

Winner: Minoru Suzuki
