THE ROCK, CODY RHODES, JOHN CENA SET FOR DC FANDOME TOMORROW

By Mike Johnson on 2021-10-15 10:24:00

The Rock, AEW's Cody Rhodes and John Cena all popped up in a new YouTube video promoting tomorrow's DC Fandome digital gathering, which will stream online tomorrow, revealing news and footage from future DC film, TV and comic projects:

The Rock will be revealing material related to his DC film Black Adam.  Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian predecessor of DC Comics' Shazam! who became corrupted after receiving his powers. He's one of the more powerful and popular DC Comic villains and will allow Rock to play a darker character.  There were allusions made to him, but not by name, in DC's feature film adaptation of Shazam!   Last year during DC Comics' first Fandome virtual gathering, Johnson himself revealed that DC Comics' original superhero team The Justice Society of America would be featured in the film, including the characters of Hawkman, The Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate and Cyclone.  The film has a 7/29/22 release date.

Cena will be revealing content related to his DC HBO Max series Peacemaker.  In September 2020, HBO Max ordered an eight-episode first season for the Peacemaker series starring Cena with James Gunn, the writer and director of Squad and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy returning to write and direct the series.  The series will explore Peacemaker's background before and what happens to him after the Suicide Squad film.  In promotional material for the film, Cena has described this take on Peacemaker as a "douchey Captain America."  Cena's portrayal of Peacemaker was the first ever live action incarnation of the character, a soldier and super-hero who loves peace so much he is willing to kill for it.  The character was originally created by Charlton Comics but acquired by DC in the mid-80s, mostly as a gift for the legendary Dick Giordano, who had worked on the characters before his incredible run for DC.  Peacemaker is slated to debut in January 2022.

There is no word what Rhodes' role will be during Fandome as of this writing.  He has appeared in DC's Arrow series in the past, playing Derek Samspson over seven episodes in seasons five and seven.
