All Elite Wrestling's big announcement was that starting 1/5/22, they will be holding a tournament to crown the promotion's first-ever TBS Champion. The belt is being instituted as part of Dynamite shifting from TNT to TBS in 2022.
The TBS Championship will be for the women's division and essentially hold the same place as the TNT title for the men's division.
It will be the first TBS Championship in professional wrestling history. Professional wrestling had been a staple of WTBS in Atlanta dating back to the early 1970s and was a big piece of the lure for viewers when Ted Turner launched his own satellite to make TBS a Superstation on cable. Wrestling had a weekly precense on TBS - Georgia Championship Wrestling, Mid-South, the WWF, Jim Crockett Promotions and World Championship Wrestling until WCW programming was canceled due to the AOL/Time Warner merger in 2000.
Professional wrestling returned to what is now known as WarnerMedia two years ago on TNT with AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage.
In 2022, Dynamite will bring pro wrestling back to TBS on a weekly basis for the first time since August 19, 2000, when the final episode of WCW Saturday Night signed off the air.
