9/30 A Block Results from New Japan's G1 Climax 31 from Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan:
At the opening of the show, Kevin Kelly announced that the "state of emergency" status in Japan ends tomorrow (October 1), which means they will not have to wear masks or face shields. Great news.

G1 Climax 31 A Block Matches:
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tanga Loa, with Jado
They begin the match with trash talk and throwing elbows. They must have thrown 30 elbows each. Ishii is dazed and rolls out of the ring. Tanga picks him up and slams him into the ring post. Tanga throws Ishii in the ring and hits a senton over the top rope. Lariat to Ishii in the corner. Tanga then launches Ishii across the ring with an Exploder suplex. Ishii fought back with a suplex of his own and throws chops into the chest of Tanga. Ishii hits a powerslam. Tanga counters with a neckbreaker. Ishii hits a German suplex, but Tanga shrugs it off. He plants Ishii with a Blue Thunder Bomb. Two count. Tanga applies the Operation Jado Killer. Ishii screams as he crawls to get to the ropes. Tanga goes for a power bomb but Ishii back drops him and hits a lariat. Ishii with a Superplex from the top rope. Two count. Ishii pummels Tanga with lariats and elbow. Tanga hits a brutal dropkick to Ishii's face. Both men get to their feet and they start hitting each other with lariats. Ishii falls to the mat. Tanga comes off the top rope with a flying headbutt. Two count. Tanga spears Ishii and hits a sit down powerbomb. Two count. Ishii with an enzuigiri and a lariat. Two count. They continue to brawl and Ishii connects with a headbutt to Tanga's jaw. Ishii measures Tanga for a running lariat. Tanga catches him in a Spinebuster. Tanga tries for Apeshit. Ishii slides out. Ishii hits a vertical brainbuster.
Ishii pins Tanga Loa.
Tomohiro Ishii get his first natural win and earns 2 points. He now has 4 points.
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Great O-Khan
The battle of the unbeatens between these two men.
Both men grappled on the mat to start the match. Great stuff here. In the middle of it all, Great O-Khan bloodied his nose. At this point, both seems evenly matched. They stood face to face and ZSJ threw a series of European uppercuts. O-Khan hit a Mongolian chop and dropped ZSJ. O-Khan hit two more Mongolian chops which hurt ZSJ's trapezius muscle as he was clutching at it. He tried to throw another Euro uppercut, but could not do it. ZSJ went back to the mat attack instead of brawling. They traded leg submissions. ZSJ with a Sleeper and a crucifix pin. Two count. ZSJ went for a springboard DDT off the ropes, but O-Khan blocked it and applied the Iron Claw. O-Khan rolled ZSJ into a Cobra Twist while still holding the Iron Claw. O-Khan transitions ZSJ into the Sheep Killer. O-Khan transitioned to a backbreaker Iron Claw submission. O-Khan went for the Eliminator. ZSJ grabbed the arm of O-Khan and grabbed his head with his legs. He trapped O-Khan's head in a triangle with his legs and twisted O-Khan's arm to hyper extend it. This is how he beat Shingo Takagi and Kota Ibushi.
O-Khan tapped out.
Zack Sabre Jr. has fourth submission win in a row and earns 2 points. He is now tied with Great O-Khan for the lead. However, Zack Sabre Jr. would hold the tie breaker advantage if they would both finished the A Block with a tie.
Wow! Great match! O-Khan showed he can wrestle as is more than just a power wrestler. Zack Sabre Jr. has defeated four of the top wrestlers in New Japan by submission. Very impressive. When he tried to brawl with O-Khan, he was not successful. Once he went back to his submission gameplan, he earned the victory.
Kota Ibushi vs. Toru Yano
Ibushi told the referee to check Yano for any tape or objects he could use in the match. Ibushi pointed to a bag that Yano had in his corner. The referee asked Yano to open the bag and Yano refused. He grabbed the bag and tried to take the bag to inspect it. Yano put the bag on Ibushi's head tried to roll him up for a pin. Yano tightened the bag around Ibushi's head and tried for another school boy pin. Ibushi kicked out. Yano threw Ibushi to the outside and wrapped his body in the ring apron. Ibushi was blinded by the bag and had his legs and arms wrapped in the ring apron. Yano pushed him to the ground and the referee began the count out. Ibushi frees himself is able to beat the count back to the ring. Ibushi dropkicks Yano out of the ring and hits a plancha over the top rope. Yano pulls out some tape and ties Ibushi's legs together. Ibushi is able to kick him loose. Yano tries to apologize. Ibushi throws a kick and misses. Yano misses a low blow. Ibushi comes off the ropes but Yano hits a reverse atomic drop. Yano with a chop block to Ibushi's knee. Yano rolls him up for a two count. Ibushi grabs the arms of Yano behind his back. He throws kicks to Yano's gut. Ibushi hits a Kamigoye to the back of Yano's head. Brutal. Yano has enough to roll up Ibushi again for a quick two count. Ibushi with Bomaye. Ibushi hits another Kamigoye.
Ibushi pins Yano.
Kota Ibushi gets the win and 2 points. He is now tied for second place with Toru Yano and KENTA.
Shingo Takagi vs. KENTA
Takagi come to the ring with his left arm still taped up.
Both men begin brawling. Takagi goes for a sliding lariat. KENTA avoids it and locks Takagi in Game Over. Takagi gets the rope break and rolls to the floor to get some distance. KENTA follows and they battle on the floor. KENTA ties up Takagi's arm around the guardrail. Back in the ring, KENTA continued to work on Takagi's injured arm. Takagi used his power to make a comeback, but when he tried for Made in Japan, he could not lift KENTA. KENTA clotheslines Takagi on the top rope, hits another flying clothesline from the top rope, then a DDT. Two count. Both men battle to the ring apron. Takagi picks up KENTA in a fireman's carry position. KENTA wiggles out and whacks Takagi's arm on the ringpost. Takagi drops to the floor in pain. KENTA hits a Green Killer (draping DDT) onto the floor. Back in the ring, KENTA follows up with a Yakuza kick, a delayed dropkick, then a double stomp from the top rope on Takagi's arm. Two count. KENTA goes for Go To Sleep. Takagi blocks it and hits a Death Valley Driver. Takagi hits a Superplex. Takagi goes for a Pumping Bomber. KENTA pulls the referee in Takagi's path and the referee takes a bump.
Both men battle with elbows and lariats. KENTA goes out of the ring to grab two chairs. He places one chair on the arm of Takagi and hits the other chair on top of his arm. Takagi screams in pain. KENTA looks around the ring for the referee. He drags the referee in the ring. KENTA applies Game Over on Takagi. Takagi refuses to submit. Takagi reaches the ropes. Lots of pain in Takagi's face. KENTA charges at Takagi and he hits a Pumping Bomber. KENTA tries for Go To Sleep, but Takagi reverses out and throws him with a Dragon Suplex. Takagi hits a running uppercut. Another Pumping Bomber knocks KENTA on his back. KENTA kicks out at two. Takagi picks up KENTA. KENTA slides off his back and tries to run him into the turnbuckle. Takagi reverses and KENTA is sent head first into the corner. Takagi picks up KENTA and hits Last of the Dragon.
Takagi pins KENTA.
Shingo Takagi earns the win and 2 more points. This win puts Shingo Takagi into a 4 way tie for second place with Kota Ibushi, Toru Yano and KENTA.
Shingo still favoring the arm as he addresses the crowd.
Great match. These were two fighters who came to beat each other up. KENTA had the plan to tear apart the arm of Takagi, and he was consistent with this plan throughout the match. Takagi was able to survive the onslaught. I also like how Zack Sabre Jr. injures an opponent and the storyline continues throughout the G1. Injuries or details are not forgotten or ignored in New Japan.
