9/24 ACTION WRESTLING 'ACTING ACCORDINGLY' IN TYRONE, GA LIVE REPORT

By Adam Cardoza on 2021-09-25 09:21:00

ACTION Wrestling “Acting Accordingly”

9/24/21 - Tyrone, GA

On IWTV.live VOD soon

Well after a year of covering them via IWTV, I have finally made my way down south to visit Tyrone, GA and see ACTION Wrestling do their thing live in person.

The rec center where ACTION hosts their events is behind a public library, next to a playground and a small lake. It’s….honestly quite picturesque. Due to the nature of the building, the wrestlers use the adjacent library as a dressing room (I’m told it’s really spacious with plenty of bathroom space) and enter from the outside of the rec center itself. The energy before the show is excited, both from the wrestlers who are around and the crowd that is entering. A good mix of people. Lot of families. It’s a uniquely comfortable venue and I quite like it.

On the card tonight, we have a Falls Count Anywhere grudge match, a rematch for the Action Championship, and the crowning of ACTION’s inaugural tag team champions! Scott Hensley is your announcer. Dylan Hales and Johnny Mosley are at the commentary table.

And we’re starting this out HOTTTTT! Matt Sells is out and impatient. He wants to end Jaden Newman NOW. In a flash, Carson Dilbeck and Pete Youngblood attack Sells! Sells clears Pete and starting humping Dilbeck’s face into the mat. Newman is here, ambushes Sells and they get to brawling. We have a ref! This match is on!

Match 1: Matt “Sex” Sells vs “Number 1” Jaden Newman (Falls Count Anywhere)

This spills to the outside immediately. Jaden gets donked off the chairs and Sells works him through the bleachers. Jaden tries to choke him but gets run into the wall. This blows right out the doors. Jaden takes control at the ticket station and they fight out to a tree. Sells cracks the back of Jaden’s head into a tree and lawn darts him into another tree as they work their way down to the lake. Jaden rips his shirt off and tries to choke out Sells with it as they continue down the hill. Jaden with a Alabama slam into the ground, Sells kicks out. Jaden calls for his goons to save him. They try to triple drive him through a picnic table but a series of low blows solves that. Sells humps Jaden into the table and then piledrives the goons into each other. Jaden comes running and gets backdropped into the lake but lands on his feet. They fight into the lake. Jaden gets dunked in all the way. They stagger to a bench for some bar fight punches, Jaden gets the better initially but taunts Sells back into the fight. They trade dodges, Sells hits a stunner! Jaden lands out on the picnic table and is down for the three! Sells wins! This was a chaotic ECW-style brawl from the get-go. Sells is very much the hometown hero and it was a great way to get the crowd energy up to start us off (also, being able to film all the outside stuff while there was still daylight was IMPORTANT)

Winner: Matt Sells

Well now that we got a nice walk in and our blood is flowing, let’s have some more wrestling! CEO Matt Griffin is in the ring and thanking folks for being here as we filter back in.

Match 2: Kevin Ku vs “Sir Knight” Merrik Donovan

Huzzah! I’ve been enjoying Donovan on Next Up and Ku just rules so this should be quite good. They grapple to a stalemate in the opening moments, until Donovan chops Ku and we’re off to the chop shop. They trade chops and chest kicks WITH HONOR. Donovan with a kick to the face in the corner and gets a near face. Ku retorts with a side slam and stomp to the chest. Ku wraps up the legs and tries to strangle Sir Knight out. Donovan finds a way out and Ku ramps up the punishment. Donovan sent to the outside and eats a knee off the apron. Ku follows him back in but runs into a lariat. Ku with all the chest kicks, Sir Knight takes the legs! Ku reverses the position. They battle to the feet! Donovan with a snap dragon! Kick out! Merrik with a ripcord flatliner! “Come Here!” Roars Donovan as he hits a falcon arrow. Ku kicks out! Ku with a fisherman’s back drop for two! Trading olympic slam attempts. Ku stomping out Merrick’s face. Sir Knight tries to roll him up but falls into a head and arm triangle and has to tap out! I love a good strong style contest and this was 100% MY SH*T. The crowd agreed here and gave Donovan a great reception even in defeat.

Winner: Kevin Ku

It’s time for Erron Wade to go through another trial on his way to a regular spot on the ACTION roster! OMG IT’S….

Match 3: Erron Wade vs “Big Bad Kaiju” O’Shay Edwards (Part 2 of The Trials of the Baby Dragon)

Edwards is back from ROH and the crowd loves it! Edwards comes charging in but Erron is ready to dodge and throw hands. O’Shay with a chop fake and throws Wade to the ground. Wade eats the apron but dodges the chop on the post. Edwards tries to come back in but Wade kicks out his leg. Baby dragon wants a follow up but runs into a spear. Corner shoulders blocks and Kaiju is just stepping on him now. Edwards picks him up in a bear hug…Wade tries to fight back but gets slammed for his efforts. Wade tries some firing up but Edwards is ready for him. Wade drops the Kaiju and sets up for the karate kid crane kick but takes too long holding the pose, waiting for O’Shay to stand up. Edwards catches the kick and drops him with a sitout driver for the win. Wade came in hot but Edwards was able to weather that storm and let Erron tire himself out. Edwards’ experience showed here but the Baby Dragon showed enough fire to likely let the trials continue.

Winner: O’Shay Edwards

Suge D is out here and none too pleased about how the Good Hand’s tag team title opportunity was dashed at the last show. As you may recall, Kevin Ryan’s foot was definitely under the rope on that pinfall. He says Kevin Ryan was so angry about how that went down, he refused to show up tonight for his match against AKIRA. Suge himself is upset that he’s on the show poster and advertised but doesn’t appear to have a match. But…Scott Hensley has a match for him….it’s the Action Challenge Gauntlet! Eliminations by Pinfall, Submission & over the top rope…new people in every 90 seconds. The winner gets an Action Wrestlijg title shot! Suge gets a title shot if he survives this? He’s in.

So…Suge D is the first competitor. The second? BRETT FREAKIN’ ISON.

Match 4: The Action Challenge Gauntlet

Suge isn’t afraid to face the pitbull and comes right into the jaws. Ison pummels Suge down into the corner. Boot wash! Torture rack! Suge rakes the eyes and chokes Ison in the corner.

Entrant 3: AKIRA

Uh oh. No one likes Suge in this ring right now. Akira and Ison take their time beating Suge down and stretching him. Akira with a RNC and Ison headbutts into it. They keep this up and Suge is hurtin’

Entrant 4: Ron Bass Jr.

Ison and Ron get to clubbing and head butting in the center. Big bull stuff. Bass knocks AKIRA away and Suge thinks he has a new friend…but Ron wants protection money. Suge doesn’t have any. Uh oh. Bass clubs him and Suge rolls out to the floor.

Entrant 5: Zach Mosley

Mosley had a good match at Next Up earlier and the million dollar mullet is all bravado in the ring right now. He drops Akira and accidentally starts Ison and Bass fighting again. He tries to get the spotlight back but they club him down and get back to fighting.

Entrant 6: BK Westbrook

Another Next Up standout! As BK makes his entrance, Bass and Ison fight over the top and to the floor. Both are out. Westbrook has a good opening flurry but Suge and Mosely take control.

Entrant 7: Ashton Starr

BK comes right at Starr but eats a spinning back fist. Slingshot back elbow drops Starr before Suge takes over on him.

Entrant 8: Rico Gonzalez

We have a trio of Next Up talent in there! Rico with a roll through takedown into a head kick. Starr with a powerbomb on Rico and he’s down for three. Quick in, quick out.

Entrant 9: Cabana Man Dan

Even without Ison, it’s like a murderer’s row of people who hate Suge in there. At the opening of CMD’s music, Suge runs to the merch tables and hides while CMD hits a sunset flip and eliminates Zach Mosely. Suge tries to ambush CMD but it doesn’t work too well for him.

Entrant 10: Shean Christopher

AKIRA takes out BK Westbrook during the entrance. Suge quickly rolls up Akira. A furious Akira attacks Suge and piledrives him before he leaves. Ashton and CMD battling out onto the apron and Suge pushes them off to the floor.

Entrant 11: Jack Kujo

It’s the Kujo show tooo???? Christopher tries to take out Kujo early but eats a running knee. Christopher with a rolling elbow. They’re battling, Suge egging them both on to hit harder. They finally double superkick him. Great spot. Kujo tries a codebreaker on Christopher but gets thrown into hitting Suge. Christopher with a knee to the back of the head of Kujo! Kick out! Christopher sent to the floor and Suge throws Kujo out to him. Shean Christopher is stunned and stumbles back into the ring to eat another slam and the three count.

Suge grabs the mic and says he’s clearly the winner since it’s been 90 seconds and there’s no new entrant….oh wait, we hear the train a’comin’. ORION BISHOP IS THE FINAL ENTRANT! Suge is NOT happy. This shouldn’t count, he says! Scott Hensley and Matt Griffin both confirm this DOES indeed count.

Entrant 12: Orion Bishop

Suge swarms right away. He tries a sunset flip but Orion gets his claws on him. Suge trying to move this big man but no such luck. Bishop comes running and goes over the top but catches himself. Suge is in shock but keeps pummeling…and then runs into a spear. Huuuuuge room shaking slam from Orion Bishop and Suge is down for the count!

Winner: Orion Bishop

Orion Bishop will have a future shot at the Action Championship! Long match but this was a lot of storytelling (most from Suge) and just great. Suge D losing another championship opportunity here gives him even more ammo for his argument that the deck is unfairly stacked against him in ACTION. Meanwhile in the present, Suge is limp in the ring. Ref shiny shoes rolls him out so we can keep having a show.

AC Mack is out and is right on the mic, upset that he has not heard from IWTV about his Independent Wrestling Championship shot. No word from Wheeler Yuta. But right now? Well he has unfinished business with Adam Priest.

Match 5: “Mack of all Trades” AC Mack vs Adam Priest

Mack goes right at Priest, throwing hands and stomps before Adam can get his gear off. Huge lariat from the loudmouth. He wants Mack-10 but Priest reverses with a snap ddt. Priest with a forearm (with that surgically repaired plate in it). Mack spills to the floor and barely makes the count. Priest wants to know why people aren’t cheering for him and walks into a meteora.  Kick out! Double clothesline, double down! Priest begins working the knee of Mack that was injured during the SCI tournament. Figure four and Mack’s in deep. Mack to the rope. Priest tries to hit the Mack-10 but gets dropped out of it. Mack with a flying kick and back elbow. He tries the Mack-10 but Priest rolls him up and grabs tights. The ref refuses the count since Priest has the tights. Priest yells at the ref in the corner, who misses the straight punch to the nethers that Mack throws before hitting the Mack-10 for the win! Good callbacks in this match to Mack’s injury and Priest’s penchant for cheating. Mack getting the dirty win is still pretty in character for him overall, but also just desserts after his controversial loss to Priest at “Game Over”. A rubber match is likely in order down the road. Good stuff here as we close out the first half and go to intermission!

Winner: AC Mack

(Intermission)

It’s time to crown out very first ACTION tag team champions! All these teams won preliminary round matches at “Action for Southside Support”! The finals will be a chaotic 3-way dance.

Match 6: The Skulk (Adrian Alanis & Liam Gray) vs Bobby Flaco & Brogan Finlay vs Suplex Science (Alex Kane & Damyan Tangra) (Elimination Match for the Action Tag Team Championships)

The crowd is hot for all of this. We’re going through different three person combos in the opening minutes with some wild sequences and hard hits. Everyone’s looking good. We get Alanis with a sling blade backbreaker to Tangra. Bobby’s in! Drop dropkick to Tangra and Gray. Tilt a whirl ddt and a kick out. Bobby with a dive to the outside and hypes up the crowd. They might take out the Skulk! Alanis hits a backbreaker to Brogan and Gray with a follow up cutter. Bobby crashes and burns. Kane with a suplex to Alanis while he has Flaco in a vertical. Kane with one more slam to Flaco and he’s down for the three.

Bobby Flaco and Brogan Finlay have been eliminated.

Kane and Alanis come to blows in the center. X-plex! Tangra in with a DVD. Gray off the top and wipe out gray. Alanis stuns Tangra, Liam off the top rope and hits a DDT and Tangra is down for the count. This was a hot 10-ish minutes. All action. Lot of fun. But you know…THE SKULK WON. Well deserved as they’ve had a great run in ACTION this past year but you know they are going to rub this in the crowd’s face for shows to come.

Winners (and Newwwww Action Tag Team Champions): The Skulk

Match 7: Merc vs Anthony Henry

Anthony Henry is back from his stint on 205 and the Merc has him in his sights right away. Action held Henry’s last indie match and are also getting to host his return. Henry is trying to get the legs but Merc powering up and works him back into the corner. Marc wants to roll with him but that’s a bad idea to do with Anthony Henry who has to be forced to the ropes again to break his hold. Merc walking him down with kicks and stomps but Henry’s vicious side kicks in and he’s stomping Merc out on the apron before twisting his neck. Henry missed a double stomp and catches a rebound spear into a front headlock. Merc drags him to the outside and bounces Henry off the post and stage. From here, Merc starts laying in the uppercuts and corner whips. He tries the heart Grenade but Henry turns it into a reverse dragon sleeper. Merc bounces him off the buckle and hits a spear for two. Big slam, kick out again! Heart Grenade? Henry with a rebound German. Merc and Henry slugging it out with increasing energy before Henry shotguns Merc to the buckles. Ddt off the corner! Two count, transition into a crossface. “TAAAAAP!” Screams Henry. Merc tries a roll up but eating head kicks. Henry off the top with the double stomp. It’s ov—KICK OUT! Henry with the dragon sleeper. Merc out, powerbomb, pk! Kick out! Merc to the second, misses a knee drop, grapevines the legs and dragon screws Merc off the ropes. Henry wraps up the legs again and arches back on that figure eight and Merc taps out. Liked this a lot. Plenty of false finishes and working towards Merc’s big move that Henry was always a step ahead of.

Winner: Anthony Henry

Main Event: “ACEGAWD” Arik Royal(c) vs “The Heathen” Logan Creed (for the ACTION Wrestling Championship)

Here. We. Go. Logan Creed is out for blood tonight and Arik Royal seems unwilling to hand his belt to the ref. Royal is also easily startled as Logan wants to make that first sudden move. Creed takes him to the ropes early and Royal tries to get him disqualified. Lockup, and Royal powders before taking a punch. They lockup again and Royal is tossed to the mat. The crowd super hot for Creed as he chops Royal LOUD. Logan off the ropes and hits a code red! What?!? Logan walking down Arik on the outside with lariats and bouncing his head off the apron. Royal endures and catches the Heathen’s legs on the apron and bombs him to the ring corner. Creed throwing shots, Royal takes the eyes. The champ is stomping his challenger out but makes the mistake of running into a big boot. Royal sweeps Creed off the buckles for two. Royal clubbing down blows and Creed starts chopping back. Royal gets a body scissors on to wear the big man down. Creed with a back drop onto the top buckle and he hits a fallaway slam off the second. Royal staggering to the outside after that fall. Creed tries a suicide dive but Royal cutters him into the apron. He rolls Crred back in but can’t resist taunting the crowd and eats a big boot and suicide dive into the chairs. Big suplex from Creed for a near fall. Royal is up and Creed is asking for shots. Royal is doing no damage. He tries a Kobe but Creed catches him and headbutts the champ repeatedly. Royal slapping and uppercutting back! Creed with a reverse chokeslam, boot stomp, and a chokebreaker! Royal’s out at two! Creed comes in, Royal hits the Acegawd’s curse! It’s not enough! Roya slaps on a figure four! Creed to the ropes. The Heathen has one of his own for the Acegawd. Royal gets the rope and dodges a flying Logan. Huuuuge superplex off the top shakes the room. This is awesome Clap clap clapclapclap. Royal sucks the running boot and hits a spinning heel kick. Royal with a powerbomb but Creed traps the arm. Royal stacks a pin to break the hold. Creed tries the Scorched Earth slam but his back gives out trying to get the champ up. Royal off the ropes and hits Kobe for the three count. Epic level main event here, big fight feel. The crowd was READY for Logan to defeat Royal and end his 224-day reign as ACTION Champion…but it was not to be. Great close to a great show!

Winner (And Still Champion): Arik Royal

Royal looks half-dead (but still champ) as he rolls out of the ring to recover. Logan Creed is standing tall, surveys the crowd and takes his boots off. He gives a bow to the crowd and leaves those boots in the center of the ring as Royal laughs at what he perceives he forced Creed to do.

And that’s it for “Acting Accordingly”! ACTION shows are a great mix of wrestling styles with a focus on quality and storytelling. This was a great example of that, with a energetic crowd to keep the hype up. It’s hard to pick a MOTN when the booking was this stacked. The Gauntlet was probably my overall favorite piece though, lots of good storytelling, callbacks and actions through that. This show was a lot of fun and I’m super glad I was able to get down to Tyrone to experience this live. Thanks to Matt Griffin for letting me attend the Next Up taping earlier in the day (I’ll post my report on that once the show hits IWTV). For the rest of y’all, this show will be up on IWTV.live in probably a week or so. I’d highly advise checking out what’s happening in Georgia.
