PILLMAN VS. CASTER, ANDRADE VS. PAC & MORE: AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2021-09-10 23:05:00

It's Friday and it's time for AEW Rampage. Announcers are Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Mark Henry and Taz, with Excalibur off to get married and Jericho off due to his match at All Out.

Andrade El Idolo w/Chavo Guerrero vs Pac w/He sent the Lucha Brothers to the back

They start with a staredown. It then explodes with trading blows, and Andrade is able to win the exchange and then hits clotheslines, and beats down Pac in the corner. Pac is able to get an arm drag after Andrade has taunted him and Pac follows up with a Tope. They brawl outside the ring with Andradde taking the worst of it with being tossed into the barricade twice.  They move back to the ring with Pac getting chops and a headlock.

Andrade is able to get a kick and then hits Pac with a DDT on the paron through the ropes.  Pac rolls to the floor and Andrdade hits a planca onto Pac on the floor. Pac is rolled in and Andrade gets a two count. They battle in the corner, and Pac gets tied up in the ropes. Andrade leaps off and hits a double stomp into Pac’s chest. Pac keeps the attack up and hits a split leg moonsault onto Pac for a two count.

Pac gets put on Andrade’s shoulders on the top and Pac reverses it and hits a rana on Andrade. Pac hits a kick after they run the ropes and both men are down. They slowly get to their feet and trade shots on the apron. Pac goes for a sunset flip to the floor, but Andrade lands feet first. That allows him to eat a kick from Pac.  Pac goes to the top and gets hung up in the ropes and Andrade misses the stomp.  Pac follows with a moonsault to the floor onto Andrade.

They are dazed on the floor and they roll in before the 10 count. Pac goes to the top and hits a 450 splash and covers, and Andrade grabs the rope to break the count. Pac sets Andrade to the mat for the Black Arrow. Andrade gets up and gets out of the way. Pac nails a pair of suplexes, with Andrade left in the corner, dazed. Pac escapes a crucifix and locks on the brutalizer.

Jose gets up on the apron with a taser, and he is taken down by the Lucha Bros. Chavo sneaks in while the ref is distracted and nails Pac with a foreign object.  Andrade rolls up Pac and gets the three count.

Your winner: Andrade

And he and his team walk up the ramp, Jose tells Andrade what Chavo did, and Andrade nails Chavo. The announcers say that Andrade must have wanted to win clean (then why did Jose get on the apron?) and as Chavo recorders, he gets superkicked by the Lucha Bros.  Chavo goes into the ring, and Pac locks on the Brutalizer, and the refs have to come save Chavo. Taz is highly upset by this, saying he and Chavo is his friend.

This match wasn’t what we would have gotten on a PPV, but it was a great match, and reminded me that I really wish Pac’s travel issues could be a thing of the past, because he is such a good fit for AEW.  Andrade still hasn’t looked like the unstoppable force and mastermind he is being pitched to us.

Next is Darby Allin and his dad, Sting, on their way to the ring to get a single question from Tony Schiavone. He asks them about what Tully Blanchard said about facing Shawn Spears. Darby says that Spears is nothing without Tully and gets our first swear word of the night. Sting says that Tully rode Flair and Anderson’s coattails, and he wants to go face to face with Sting, let’s do it, right here, right now.

Tully comes out and says that two on one wouldn't be fair. As Tully talks, Spears shows up and takes out Darby.  Sting has to watch the aftermath of the attack.

We go to a pre-tape with Adam Cole talking about how The Elite is a group of individuals stronger as a team and he trusts them and they trust him. He says he will wipe the floor with Brian Danielson.

We then get a video from Brian and he is going after Kenny Omega, putting him over. And if Omega won’t face him, he’ll face someone else. He’s here and he’s game.

Britt Baker, Rebel, Jaime Hayter vs Ruby Soho, Riho, and Kris Statlander

Riho starts off with Baker, and Baker gets two quick two counts, but Riho hesitates punching Baker in the face.Statlander tags in and power slams Baker for a two count. Rebel tags in and Riho tags in for a spot where get is on Statlander’s back and hits Rebel with a flurry of kicks.  Hayter tags in and Riho gets a drop toe hold and then a shot to the face through the ropes and a two count.

Riho keeps control with strikes until Riho goes to the ropes and she takes a kick from the outside from Rebel allowly Hayter to start a beat down on Riho. We get a break and Hayter is still in control of Riho. Riho gets the tag to Roby and egst a strong flurry of offense and a quick two count. Statlander comes in and their double team backfires and Hayter is able to take down Statylander for a two count.

Rebel tags in and they try for a suplex, but Statlander is able to suplex the two of them. Baker tags in and they trade blows until Statlander sets up for Riho to get on her shoulders and a double stomp onto Rebel, who was trying to protect Baker.  Riho then gets a cross body onto Hayter on the outside. Ruby gets a Pele kick on Rebel and covers for a three count.

Your winners: Ruby Soho, Riho and Kris Statlander

Good Trios match where Riho got a little bit of a spotlight, and the issues with Baker’s team (OK, their issue is the Rebel is incompetent and plays the part perfectly). Ruby gets the pin, and shows more of what she can do in the ring.

Mark Henry interviews Max Caster and Brian Pillman Jr. Max says that Pillman’s friends won’t be with him, and he will beat his ass. Pillman gives an old school babyface promo about how he is the hometown boy and he will come at him at 100 miles an hour.

Mark lets us know it’s time for the main event.

Max Caster w/Anthony Bowens vs Brian Pillman Jr.

Caster raps his way to the ring calling the women of Cincinnati fat and mocks Pete Rose and Skyline chili. Anthony takes the mic from him and says he’s on thin ice.

Pillman runs to the ring and takes down Max before the bell.  He keeps up the attack and even hits a drop kick through the ropes when Max goes to the floor. As Pillman waits on the apron, Bowens pulls his feet off the mat and Pillman crashes to the ground. Max drops him back first on the apron and then proceeds to beat him down inside the ring.  The crowd rains down boos on Max. Pillman tries to fight his way out, but Max keeps him on the mat. Any time Pillman starts to mount a comeback, Bowens distracts him and allows Max to regain control.

Pillman finally is able to mount a comeback with clotheslines as Max’s boot is untied. PIllmen gets a series of blows in the corner and before he can leap into Max, Bowens grabs Pillman’s boot to allow Max to get the upper hand again. After Pillman kicks Max, he leaps onto Bowens outside the ring. Max leaps onto Pillman outside the ring. He rolls Pillman into the ring...and misses an elbow drop from the top.

Pillman hits the springboard clothesline and gets the three count.

Your winner: Brian Pillman Jr.

Max and Bowens attacks Pillman after the win and before they can nail him with boombox, Jon Moxley runs to the ring and they are able to team up and take out the Acclaimed.

And we’re out of time!
