JOHN SKYLER VS. LAREDO KID & MORE: BTI - BEFORE THE IMPACT REPORT

By Mike Johnson on 2021-09-09 20:00:00

Welcome to this week's BTI - Before the Impact Report!

Our hosts, Josh Matthews, Jon Burton and Gia Miller welcome everyone to the show.  They pushed the 9/18 Victory Road PPV next weekend.

We went to highlights of Ace Austin vs. Tommy Dreamer from last week's Impact on AXS TV main event.

Our hosts looked at Josh Alexander vs. the returning Jake Crist last week, followed by Chris Sabin challenging him for an X-Division title shot at the PPV.

They then went back to Moose and W. Morrisey taking out Eddie Edwards.

The Impact+ classic clip featured Jeff Hardy vs. Jeff Jarrett from 2004's Victory Road PPV.

They recapped the top five social media moments of the last week for the promotion.  #1 was Su Yung turning Brandi Lauren into her follower.

George Iceman's Intel says there was a new seven foot tall person backstage at Impact tonight.

John Skyler vs. Laredo Kid

They slugged it out.  Laredo Kid nailed a series of kicks but was sent to the ropes.  He slid through and nailed a springboard move that sent Skyler to the floor.  He nailed an Asai Moonsault to the outside.  It was a really nice spotlight on Laredo's athletic prowess early on.

After a commercial, Laredo continued to control Skyler but was cut off with some really good right hands.  Laredo backed him into the corner and drilled him.  Skyler caught him with an enziguiri and then smashed Laredo into the buckles before drilling him with a lariat for a two count.  The crowd was all over him, telling him that he still sucked.  Skyler looked good with his strikes and heel work.  He slammed Laredo with authority for a two count before cinching on a side chinlock.  The crowd rallied Laredo Kid.  He fought to his feet but was drilled with forearm smashes.

Skyler started talking some trash as he continued to assault Laredo Kid.  He missed a charge and was sent to the apron but speared Laredo through the ropes for a great near fall.  The fans chanted for Laredo Kid.  Skyler continued to control him and set Laredo up on the ropes for an attemped superplex.

Laredo fought him off and nailed a cutter.  He charged Skyler for a big leaping forearm smash, then a Michinokun Driver.  Laredo nailed a twisting moonsault, then nailed another for a close two count.  Kid missed another moonsault and was snatched into a sit-down powerbomb.  Laredo kicked up so Skyler turned him over into a Boston Crab.  Kid fought to the ropes, forcing the break.  Skyler continued to work him over and smashed him into the buckles before drilling him with an over the knee backbreaker.

Skyler went to the top but was cut off by Laredo.  They battled but Laredo gained control and nailed a Spanish Fly off the top for the pin.

Your winner, Laredo Kid!

Really damn good, hard fought match.  Laredo Kid was in the zone but Skyler was awesome here as the glue holding it together as a heel and in terms of everything clicking together.  He's been such a strong addition to the company in terms of accentuating the in-ring stuff he's been involved in.  It's nice to see someone who was grinding away for years finally get some just attention and opportunities.

They previewed Impact to close the show.
