Have you ever wondered if there are top athletes out there who make use of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes? Do you want to know if cannabis has helped these athletes?
Over the years, the cannabis industry has seen a massive boom in growth and people have now come to realize that marijuana consumption comes with a lot of benefits. This realization has mainly come through the efforts to legalize medicinal marijuana use globally. There are so many types of cannabis products on the market, and brands like Smoke Cartel and Vapo Vapes offer everything cannabis lovers dream of - from bongs and rigs to edibles, cannabis users nowadays have everything they want at their fingertips.
CBD is a big part of this, as the compound within cannabis is known for its healing effects. THC is the other prominent compound within marijuana which is known for giving the euphoric high that everyone associates weed with.
Many athletes tend to stay away from marijuana because they aren’t sure how it will affect their performance or even if it is legal to use when competing. However, there are a few athletes who have admitted to using marijuana consistently for more than just recreational purposes.
Right at the top of our list of athletes who have used marijuana, we have Michael Phelps. Michael Phelps is an incredibly well-known, multiple Olympic gold medalist who admitted to consuming marijuana on multiple occasions for medicinal purposes and recreational purposes.
The first time we learned that Phelps consumed marijuana was when a photo of him at a house party circulated on the internet. In the photo you see Phelps taking a hit from a bong. At the time of this, marijuana use was illegal in the swimming world, and he was suspended from competing for the next 3 months. He also lost a sponsor from Kellogg’s; however, this didn’t stop him from becoming the most decorated Olympic swimmer.
Next up on our list, we have Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabar was an NBA player who has the most points in the league history - yes, even more than Michael Jordan. It is said that he has been caught with marijuana more than once, although this is fairly normal at the time in which he was playing
Many people might think it is for recreational purposes, however, he claims to have used marijuana solely for medicinal purposes as he claims to suffer terribly from migraines. He now has a prescription for medicinal marijuana use.
Moving on to our next athlete, next on the list we have Ricky Williams. Ricky Williams is a retired NFL player and had been playing football for a very long time, first for New Orleans, and famously in Miami. It is said that there is no other athlete on the planet that has drawn as much attention to himself because of marijuana. He had so much anxiety during his college football days, he was known for doing interviews wearing a helmet and this was one of the reasons he began using marijuana.
His first retirement was all the way back in 2004, where he reportedly failed multiple drug tests and was banned from the NFL for a while. However, he came back strong and learned about holistic medicine. These days, he claims to use marijuana for medicinal purposes in order to help him with his social anxiety disorder.
The ever so popular Arnold Schwarzenegger is also known for consuming marijuana. The bodybuilder turned actor, politician, and businessman has some incredible life stories. In 2011, he became the governor of California, and he used his role for good. While serving his time as governor, he managed to reduce the charges for those carrying minimal amounts of marijuana, which meant people will only have a small fine to pay.
Although this only applies to California residents, this move was one of the first of many to start making waves in the cannabis world. Along with this, Schwarzenegger was known to light up now and then and enjoy it too.
Last but not least, we have Randy Moss. Randy Moss was a professional football wide receiver who played for multiple NFL teams but was considered one of the best ever in his position. When it came to the NFL, Moss failed multiple drug tests, but he has since made moves to try and remove marijuana testing from the rotation.
Moss claims that he has been using marijuana since he was in the league, but he continues to state that he never abused it and never went overboard or let it take control of him.
When it comes to Moss and his consumption of marijuana, he uses it purely for recreational purposes and has never made any claims to use it for medicinal purposes.
