As we enter NOW arena it is all about CM Punk. The lines for his shirt is around in building. I have to credit AEW for their loyalty to this arena. Easily they could have sold out the bigger United Center but stuck to their roots.
The first portion the live audience is being treated to are video packages hyping tonight’s event and matches
?At 6:30 pm CST I have absolutely no idea how the concession stands are full because it looks like all of Chicago are in their seats for the Buy In alone
Justin Roberts announces our 10 man tag for the Buy In, HFO vs best Friends and Jurassic Express. Quite frankly, he could do this in Mandarin Chinese, Chicago is ready for this.
This audience is all about their Jungle Boy. Wheeler Yuta is getting a lot of love. Great to see him on this stage. These guys are having a good old fashioned 10 man cluster to warm us up. The crowd absolutely loved the chicken fight and come unglued as Marko Stunt hits the big tope on Blade and Jungle Boy scores the submission victory.
We are live on PPV and this crowd is ready for Miro v Eddie Kingston. NOW arena has an absolute love affair with Eddie. We are not here for scientific wrestling
I can’t tell you how happy I am for both these guys getting the reception they’re getting. That powerslam on the floor by Miro looked brutal. Amazing how WWE dropped the ball on Miro. I have a feeling I’ll say that a lot tonight.
1/2 of the Merch stands are SOLD OUT
Miro and Kingston are working a perfect opener this far. Hard hitting but not crazy. This match wouldn’t be out of place in the G1, THATS how hard the blows sound here. The crowd, correctly, tells both these guys that this is awesome
I have had heard very few pops louder than when Eddie escaped the Accolade. Bryce Remsberg becomes Chicago’s most hated by blocking the turnbuckle. He might not make it out of here alive. Great opener that had the crowd rocking.
Awesome seeing the ovation that Kojima is getting tonight as he faces Jon Moxley. We got our Wild Thing singalong and the audience isn’t fazed in the least that it’s Kojima instead of Tanahashi. This is my first time seeing Kojima so I’m happy
Moxley, you can see on his face, how happy he is here (even though he bit the guy). Interesting thing I’m hearing around me: this is Kojimas AEW debit but the audience is reacting as though they EXACTLY who he is and what he means to wrestling. Big brain buster by Kojima into a Moxley lariat, Kojima WANTS to be hit. Huge feather in Kojimas cap if he wins here headed into the G1. But 2 paradigm shifts does it for Moxley. Excellent brawl and this crowd is happy
MINORU SUZUKI THE KING is here!!!! If you thought Chicago wouldn’t know him then I don’t know what to tell you. The King left Moxley laying and the audience couldn’t have loved it more.
I know the galaxy’s greatest alien is the “good gal” here but NOW Arena will NOT be happy if their Dr Baker doesn’t prevail here tonight
This is my first time seeing Dr Baker live and you can see her star power oozing. Orange Cassidy is seconding Statlander to counter Rebel and Jamie Hayter. I hope he doesn’t throw those devastating kicks at them
Baker has the glove out, could be lockjaw time but NO. She tries a rollup instead. It looked for a second that Statlander was going to drop Baker on that superplex. Big gasp. These 2 have made the crowd buy in to the importance here and we get our second THIS IS AWESOME chant of the night.
Orange Cassidy picks a perfect moment to get fired up and implore Statlander to get back in the ring after being double teamed
I’m not sure how it came across on TV but the arena went insane when Baker got the Panama Sunrise. Chicago wants Adam Cole here tonight and they want him now.
You think we’re not hyped for this? The place is unglued at the outset. AEW going with the uncovered Hell in a cell. Not gonna lie, I ain’t writing much on this one, I want to experience it.
Bucks are playing great snarky heels. They come off as complete jerks. And I say that in the best way possible.
This. Is. Crazy. We’re only 5 minutes in. I can’t endorse live wrestling enough. I do the shows and the post game every week and I have the perspective of being able to just sit back and relax. I can’t relax here. The fan experience is too immersive.
Are spots being blown? Who the hell knows and who the hell cares? I’m completely immersed in what I’m seeing
That is a tacked laced shoe. Holy Toledo. A riot might break out after that save by the Lucha Bros. No one is sitting.
And the lucha Bros are going to the top. OMG!!!! Lucha Bros are the NEW AEW world tag team champions. Good luck to anyone following the emotional high Chicago was just on.
Battle Royal time and I need a come down from what I just saw.
Ana Jay and Tay Conti really seem to be the choice of the audience. I’m shOcked to see Shida eliminated so early
I take it back. Thunder Rosa and Riho have the crowd on their feet. Riho makes a quick exit. I’m really surprised about that
A big “WE WANT TESSA/NO WE DONT” chant permeates the building. Welcome to PPV Jade Cargill. Rebel is in there for the 2nd biggest moment of her weekend (singing karaoke with ME would be #1)
Tay is a hell of a lot taller in person.
The joker is RUBY SOHO. Big pop and RUBY chant. Another one WWE dropped the ball on. This has been as good a battle Royal as you can ask for. Jade Cargill’s elimination has the crowd surprised
We’re down to Rosa, Nyla and Soho. It’s unglued as Nyla gets thrown out. RUBY SOHO with the win. Think she’s happy right now?
Two fans just tried to swing at MJF. That’s heat. Only hiccup on the entrance was that the fans weren’t sure when to start singing as Le Champion was 1/4th of the way down the aisle when they realized he was there
MJF knows how to work the audience better than anyone today. That pile driver on the apron looked BRUTAL. no high spots thus far. These 2 are letting the match play out
It’s surreal thinking about the night in 1997 in Boston when I saw Lionheart Chris Jericho wrestle. It feels like time has flown by but god bless him, he’s still there giving us what we want.
Jericho hits a lionsault from a heck of a long distance, eliciting a YOU STILL GOT IT chant
JERICHO GOT HIS FOOT ON THE ROPE!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!?!?! A second referee saw it. We will re start! If Jericho loses I run away to avoid the riot
Jericho wins. Speaking of Chicago rioting, CM Punk is next.
So… that entrance just happened. No one is sitting. 7 years is a long wait Darby is getting respectable applause but the Hometown hero walks on water here.
I can’t believe I’m here for this.
I love how Sting left. Darby deserves this spotlight on his own. Credit to him. He’s won over a VERY partisan crowd. I don’t envy Cage and Omega having to follow this from an emotional standpoint because this crowd is spent. I say that in the best way possible
Chicago wants Allin put to sleep. He ain’t going quietly into the night. Allin is going to hurt himself really bad someday with his moves. Unglued is the only word I have for Punks GTS attempt. The second try is the charm. Punk wins!!!! What a moment!
You won’t find a better come down than Paul Wight v QT Marshall. Wight wins in what it was supposed to be, quick and to the point.
Suzuki vs Moxley Wednesday night
Good luck Kenny Omega and Christian Cage. You must follow everything that has happened tonight. I don’t envy them at all
Malakai Black got a huge ovation when his promo aired on screen
Amazing to see Cage here main eventing a major PPV. Don Callis looks as resplendent as always in his punk suit. These 2 have their work cut out for them
They are giving it all they got and NOW is following them as best they can. They have seen the emotional climax. Don Callis is amazing at working the ringside audience. He’s engaging them big time
They’re giving us an old school title match with 2021 mentality. This crowd doesn’t hate Omega, which, live, makes this seem like a babyface v babyface match. We love the spear through the table
Add Cage to the list of guys WWE missed the boat on because he’s delivering tonight. Honestly thought Cage had it when he hit the unprettier. A one winged Angel from the ropes puts this away. Great effort but Chicago was completely drained for the finish. That’s a testament to what we saw tonight. The Elite come out to beat down Cage, saved by Jurassic Express. They get beat down. I wonder if anyone will save them
ADAM COLE BAY BAY. HES HERE!!!!! Chicago just came back to life. He’s here. We are coming unglued as Cole KOs Jungle Boy and joins the Elite
THE AMERICAN DRAGON IS HERE!!!! He and the Jurassic Express take out the Elite to send the live crowd home happy. I have no idea how much of this aired
That’s all I got from Chicago. Thanks for reading
