9/5 NEW JAPAN NIGHT TWO IN SAITAMA, JAPAN RESULTS

By James Kurokawa on 2021-09-05 09:05:00

From the MetLife Dome in Saitama, Japan:

Pyro explodes to start Night 2.

I missed the Stardom match.   My apologies.

1 - Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada vs. Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb

Okada’s neck and shoulder was taped up after last night’s match.

O-Khan and Ishii started the match.   The match spilled to the floor and Okada quickly attacked Cobb.   Cobb used his power to dispatch Okada.   Cobb threw Ishii with a belly to belly suplex and then hit a massive dropkick.   All four men in the ring.   Wild match.

O-Khan hits an Eliminator on Ishii and gets the pin.

Cobb and Okada have words after the match.

Both Cobb and O-Khan have momentum going into the G1 Climax.

2 - IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match:  Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado vs. El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori

Suzuki-Gun attacks before the bell.    Lots of high flying moves by ELP on Kanemaru.   Kanemaru dropkicks the left leg of ELP and Desperado goes to work on ELP’s leg with submissions.    ELP was able to tag Ishimori who attacks the left arm of Desperado.   Fast paced match.   Kanemaru trapped ELP in a figure four.    ELP got a break and Desperado trapped him in Numero Dos.    Break in the ropes.    ELP hit a Pinche Loco on Desperado.  Two count.   ELP hits Thunderkiss 86 on Desperado.  Two count.  ELP took off his shoe and was about to hit Kanemaru with his boot.   Kanemaru ducks.   Desperado gets the boot of ELP and hits ELP in the face.    Kanemaru hits Ishimori in the face with his Suntori bottle.    Desperado picks up a dazed ELP and hits Pinche Loco.

Desperado pins El Phantasmo.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado win the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championship!

Great match.   Ishimori is a wrestling machine.   ELP sold his leg the whole match which is impressive.  The whole Sudden Death superkick storyline started between ELP and Kanemaru a year ago.    It seems to be resolved now.

3 - IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship 3-Way Match:   Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi vs. SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto

Miho Abe accompanied Taichi to ringside.

There was a debate as to who would start the match.   All men attacked each other.    Men kept entering the ring without tags.   This was a challenge to keep track of.   ZSJ was moving with so much speed.   Very hard to recap the action.

At the 15 minute mark, all men were exhausted.

Taichi hits Black Mephisto on YOSHI-HASHI and gets the pin.

Zack Sabre Jr and Taichi retain the titles.

This was a wild match.   All teams performed well.   The speed that the wrestlers moved was amazing.   All six of these men should be a part of the G1 Climax as well.

They made an announcement of the G1 Blocks.

A Block
Kota Ibushi, Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, Zack Sabre Jr., Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii, Yujiro Takahashi, KENTA, Tanga Loa, and Great O-Khan

B Block
SANADA, Taichi, YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto, Jeff Cobb, EVIL, Tama Tonga, Chase Owens, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi

The field will include 20 wrestlers, 10 per block.

Quick thoughts:  It will be the first G1 for Tanga Loa.  Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI will have to face each other in the B Block.    Other tag teams were split between blocks.  Full match cards will be coming soon.  The G1 Climax 31 begins on September 18.

My initial pick to win A Block is Shingo Takagi.  For B Block, it would be Jeff Cobb, and Cobb winning it all.   It will be a tough tournament and hopefully the G1 will not be impacted by COVID.

5 - IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship Match:  Robbie Eagles vs. Hiromu Takahashi

This is already starting out as a fast paced contest.   Eagles attacked the knee of Hiromu and applied the Ron Miller Special.    Hiromu broke the hold and hit a sunset bomb on Eagles to the floor.    Hiromu’s mouth was bleeding.   Hiromu hits a Dynamite Plunger.  Two count.   Hiromu hit a sick reverse DDT.   Brutal!    Eagles hit a Turbo Backpack off the top rope.   Two count.   Eagles hit a 450 splash on Hiromu’s leg and applied the Ron Miller Special.   Eagles dragged him to the middle of the ring and locked the Ron Miller Special again.

Hiromu screamed in pain and tapped out.

Robbie Eagles retains the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title!   Wow!  I did not expect this.   There will be more when the Best of Super Juniors comes later this year.

El Desperado comes to the ring and gets the mic.   He congratulates Eagles for the win.   He says wants a rematch.   Desperado says if Eagles grants him a rematch, then Kanemaru and Desperado will defend their Jr. Tag Titles.   Eagles accepts on behalf of himself and Tiger Mask.

6 - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match:  Shingo Takagi vs. EVIL

Dick Togo, Yujiro Takahashi and SHO come to the ring with EVIL.   They were allowed to stay at ringside.

EVIL kept escaping the ring to the floor every time Shingo hit an offensive move.

Bullet Club kept interfering in the match giving EVIL the edge.   Red Shoes finally had enough and kicks Bullet Club back to the locker room.

EVIL hits a superplex and applies The Darkness Scorpion.   Shingo gets to the ropes.    EVIL hits Darkness Falls.   Two count.  EVIL tries for Everything is Evil and Shingo counters with a Pumping Bomber.

Both men start throwing elbows and foearms.

Shingo hits Made in Japan on EVIL.   Togo comes back and pulls Red Shoes out of the ring.   Togo chokes Shingo and Yujiro Takahashi hits Pimp Juice on Shingo.   BUSHI comes to the ring and evens the odds.

SHO hits Shingo in the head with a chair.   SHO goes for a Shock Arrow but Naito and SANADA hit the ring to save him.   EVIL gets the belt and tries to hit Shingo.   Shingo takes the belt away and hits two Pumping Bombers.    He hits Last of the Dragon on EVIL.

Shingo Takagi pins EVIL.

Shingo Takagi retains the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Good match.   I did not like all the interference.   Too much shenanigans took away from the wrestling.    Takagi works stiff so perhaps more shenanigans will prevent wrestlers from getting hurt.

However, in title matches it should be all about wrestling in the ring.   Shenanigans can be saved for house shows.

Hiromu Takahashi limps to the ringside.

Shingo takes the mic and speaks to the crowd.    He welcomes back Hiromu.   He teases Hiromu that he is hurt again.   But he is happy that Los Ingobernales de Japon is together again.   They pose in the ring and give the fist bump.

Pyro explodes to close the show.

Thanks for reading.
