WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TONIGHT- THE AEW ALL OUT 2021 TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson, Richard Trionfo & Cory Strode on 2021-09-04 11:00:00

Sunday night, All Elite Wrestling will present their All Out Pay Per View from Chicago, Illinois. Here is our take on what will happen.

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega vs Christian Cage

Dave: Their first match was great and I think it was important to get the Impact belt back on Impact.  With that said, I see Kenny retaining here.  He is doing his best work since coming to AEW and it's not the time to take the Title off of him.

Mike: This should be a lot of fun given how great the first match was, plus the fact there's more of an issue between the two and they could have more time without commercial restrictions from bell to bell.  That said, we have a lot of big-time babyfaces who are in the company and/or rumored to be coming into the company, so I don't see any reason to take the title from your top heel.  Omega wins here but Cage gets to have yet another strong performance.

Cory: Cage won the first meeting between the two, but I don't expect that to happen again. I still think that the big money is a match between Adam Page and Kenny Omega for the title, so I look for Kenny to keep that title until he faces Page at some point.

Richard:  Omega already lost one title to Christian but I don't see him losing a second one.  While this is the main title, is this going to be the final match on the show or do you save Punk/Allin for the final match of the night?  Their match on Rampage for the Impact title was a very good match, but can they do an extra 10 or 15 minutes that is 'unofficially' required for a World title match?

AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks vs The Lucha Brothers in a Steel Cage Match

Dave: I expect this to be exactly what happens when you put four spot workers in a cage.  I will probably shake my head at the lack of realism at least a few times, but the flip side is that a lot of AEW fans love these car wrecks and Tony Khan should give them what they want.  I see the Bucks retaining.  Oh and since the cage is supposed to mean no interference, I am thinking we will see interference.

Mike: Traditionally, this type of match is meant to keep the talents in and that's the story - that they are locked in, but instead, the cage will be the foundation of the story of all the crazy things these talents do off the cage and use the cage to pull off.  It won't be for everyone but I expect this will be an AWESOME bout.  I don't see a title change here, so the Bucks get to have a little revenge after losing at the first All Out to Penta and Fenix a few years back.

Cory: With there not being any interference because of the cage, I look forward to this being a car crash of a match, with everyone doing their best to have the craziest spot on the show. I also think that the Bucks have finally clicked with going full heel over the last few months, and they are much more entertaining in that role. The Lucha Bros are dealing with Andrade on the side, which makes me think they will lose so that they can move into a program with him.

Richard:  If you go by the unofficial 'Inverse Transitive Theory of Go Home Shows' we are going to have new champions since the Bucks got the win on Wednesday night.  The post match beat down by the Bucks also should solidify the new champions.  That is a big steel cage they used at the end of the show so there could be some crazy dives off the cage, but the other stuff you expect from these two teams will be neutered without the cage.

AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker vs Kris Statlander

Dave: I would love to see Statlander win the belt at some time but I don't think the time is right.  I see Britt's army finding a way to screw Kris, thus telling a story that will mean more if/when she finally wins.

Mike: I like Statlander a LOT but AEW is all Brittsville these days and you don't stop the raging locomotive.  Britt wins.

Cory: It is far too early in Baker's run for her to lose, although her as the angry heel who feels she was cheated would be incredibly entertaining. We also have not had much in the way of interactions between Baker and Statlander, which makes me think this is a one and done feud for not. Statlander is a solid performer, but not nearly as over as Baker, so I look for Baker to retain with interference.

Richard:  Britt should not be losing the title right now and Statlander is not the person to take the title from her.  With Punk's first match on this show, it isn't necessary for Baker to have the best match of the night.  Statlander needs a strong performance to make sure she stays in title contention in the future.  I hope they don't use Jamie and Reba to help Britt get the win.  They didn't have to turn her heel in the first place.

AEW TNT Champion Miro vs Eddie Kingston

Dave: Eddie is great, I love him.  But after a really bad start in AEW, Miro is firing on all cylinders and shouldn't be losing here.  I would have Miro resort to nefarious means, keeping the program going.

Mike: Their segment on Rampage was absolutely perfect to add some heat and momentum to the issue.  I love Eddie Kingston but he doesn't need the title.  He got far more over in his loss to Moxley because he fought until he was choked out and dropped.  I expect we will see the same story here.  Kingston fights.  He doesn't go over but he gets over with the audience who sees  him fighting with all his heart.  Thus, Miro retains and looks like a badass after they really take it to each other.

Cory: In a perfect world, we would have had 3 months of Miro and Eddie trading promos, brawling here and there and interfering in each other's matches. So, I am hoping against hope that they go to a time limit draw or there is some other finish that allows for this feud to get the time it really deserves. The promos we got from each of them on Dynamite were fantastic, but I don't think Eddie has been away from Mox long enough to be set up to win this title, so Miro retains and talks about his wife in his next promo.

Richard:  I don't think it is time to take the title off Miro, but Eddie Kingston would be an interesting option for the person to dethrone Miro to win the title.  If that is going to be the case, Why not have a draw?  This should be a very good match.  If they go with the draw, maybe they have Kingston get the cover as time runs out and that mistiming costs him.

CM Punk vs Darby Allin

Dave: I know there is probably a "what if we have Darby win" thought going through Tony's head.  Don't do it.  One, it's Chicago.  Two, Punk's said he needs to see if he still has it.  If he loses, even if it's super close, it's a bad look.  Punk is a true star that can help them move the needle.  Monday Night Football returns soon.  If Bryan comes in, Dynamite has a shot at passing Raw.  Keep your new asset strong and book it to elevate Darby in the loss.  If they have Darby win, in Chicago, they may turn him in a way that they don't want him turned.  We already have a theme of the young guy beating the old guy on the card.  Let's not do it twice.

Mike: In a perfect world, I think Darby should win after a hot competitive bout and then Punk can say it's been seven years and he has a lot of work to do to show the world he's the best in the world but he's going to do it.  That said, doing that IN Chicago would turn ugly, so Punk is winning.  I actually wonder if this closes the show.

Cory: I am going to go against conventional wisdom on this. Punk doesn't need to win. Before you call me crazy (which I may deserve) Punk has said over and over that he is AEW to build the company and help the talent there. So, he could easily tell the story that he is rusty in the ring, Darby is fresher, faster, and willing to put himself at risk to beat Punk. Yes, the crowd may not like it, and Tony has shown he likes to give fans what they want, but Punk losing a long fight with Darby where Darby is just one step ahead of him would work in making Darby a bigger star, give Punk a story where he needs to train harder and a match further do0wn the line.

Richard:  This match will get one of the two biggest pops of the night (along with the tag title match).  Punk is going to win, but the real success of this match will be whether Allin is elevated with his loss.  How much of Darby's offense will Punk take in this match?  If Punk wants to make a true impact on Sunday, he should win with the Pepsi Plunge.

Chris Jericho vs MJF (If Jericho Loses, he will no longer wrestle in AEW)

Dave: As I said above, MJF has beaten Jericho three times.  We need to make it four.  Jericho came to AEW to help establish it, like Terry Funk did for ECW.  He was the biggest name they had (since Dean Ambrose had to leave his behind.  We all know that there are ways to get around the stipulation if Jericho loses.  The right move is have MJF win (and probably by super cheating) and give Jericho a bit of a rest that his old body needs (and also allow him to tour).  Then, play him as the ace up their sleeve and pull him out for big PPVs.  Then move MJF on to bigger things, like maybe Punk or Bryan.  Or Adam Cole.

Mike:  I can see them possibly doing Jericho loses and they do the Midnight Rider deal, but MJF has won so often that unless Jericho is making plans to exit the ring (as I really don't see Tony Khan crapping on stipulations), I think Jericho shocks everyone and gets the win.  He's made MJF.  That doesn't mean MJF can't lose to Jericho again.

Cory: Jericho will lose. His promo and JR's reaction to it on Dynamite has convinced me of it. It makes MJF a bigger star, it gives Jericho time for his tour (which starts next week, and while he doesn't have any Wednesday shows, still will take a lot of his time and energy) and he will still be on commentary. I also think this because the Inner Circle has all but vanished with no one mentioning the group any longer.

Richard:  Didn't this feud end three times already?  MJF needs to be moved to the next level and this feud is keeping him down.  Is the Fozzy tour going to be a justification for Jericho to say goodbye to the ring?  Will we see anyone try to help Jericho during the match since it appears that the two factions are disbanded.  MJF wins and we will only have to hear Jericho yelling on commentary on Friday nights.

Jon Moxley vs Satoshi Kojima

Dave: This should be fun.  Mox should win.  Having Kojima win makes no sense to AEW.

Mike: This is a nice way to bridge Moxley to whatever his next story will be while also serving New Japan as their partner.  Kojima was great during his Impact appearances recently and he's always the reliable vet who has great, competitive performances.  I suspect we'll see that here and a fun little brawl before Moxley gets the win.

Cory: This is going to be a fantastic match, and keeps up Mox's connection with New Japan. I wish it would have had more of a build than a single backstage promo, and they should have spent some time letting the US audience know who Kojima is. Still, Mox will go over.

Richard:  This is not a main event level match on this pay per view but don't tell the wrestlers that they are not one of the main events.  With Moxley being part of the New Japan shows in the United States, will this lead to matches between the two on those shows?  This match could steal the show if they are given enough time.  Kojima is a legend and his role will be to make Moxley look good.  Moxley needs to get his footing back in the AEW hierarchy and this will be the first step on that journey.

QT Marshall vs Paul Wight

Dave: QT needed to be destroyed before Rampage.  Now?  Oh yeah, destruction, and that's exactly what it should be.

Mike: QT Marshall is awesome.  I don't think anyone got more of a heel reaction that surpassed Marshall when I was at Rampage in Chicago a few weeks ago.  We just saw The Gunn Club turn, so I wonder if they get involved here, maybe to set Mark Henry making the save?  If that's not the plan, to me, QT needs to ride the chokeslam express.

Cory: Has QT ever won a match where anything is on the line? Nice the Paul is going to be in the ring, and QT can certainly make him look good, but this is the match I care the least about. And Billy's Gunn's sudden but inevitable betrayal seems to make no sense at all, other than to maybe give Paul another obstacle to overcome. Still, Paul Wight wins.

Richard:  Did Tony forget that the person every turns on is Sting and Paul Wight is the person who turns all of the time?  If this match goes longer than the time it takes you to read all five of our thoughts on this match, then they did something wrong.  I want pissed off Paul punching QT many times and getting the victory.

Casino Battle Royale (winner earns an AEW Women’s Championship Match) [featuring Nyla Rose, Jade Cargill, The Bunny, Big Swole, Thunder Rosa, Kiera Hogan, Emi Sakura, Hikaru Shida, Red Velvet, Penelope Ford, Diamante, Tay Conti, Julia Hart, Leyla Hirsch, Rebel, Anna Jay, Jamie Hayter, Abadon, KiLynn King, and more TBA]

Dave: I would have Anna Jay win.  Maybe she tosses Tay Conti in the process.

Cory: I am terrible at predicting these, and the story going into it seems to be that people are pairing up to form alliances. I'd like to see Tay Conti win, but I have a feeling it will be Ruby Soho.

Mike: I think Cory might be onto something about Ruby Soho coming in here as those vigettes online aren't being produced for just fun.  I can see a case made for Shida or Thunder Rosa getting the win here, especially Rosa since they can build to Rosa vs. Britt II.

Richard:  Since I don't see Britt Baker losing the title any time soon, this might be time to give us a surprise winner of the battle royal instead of one of the usual suspects who will always get title matches.  A lot of people think that Ruby Soho will make her debut as the wild card and that would be a good moment for her.  I am excited for the amount of posing that Jade Cargill will do in this match.  With Anna Jay returning on Wednesday night, would this be the time to pull the trigger with her after time off due to injury?  Tay Conti seems like the popular pick based on what she has been doing recently, but if we are going to have some time before this match this would be my pick.  It would be nice to see AEW remember that they pushed Nyla Rose like a monster in the past.  My personal pick is Leyla Hirsch, even though I don't expect her to win.

Buy In Match:  Matt Hardy, TH2, and Private Party vs Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor, Jurassic Express, and Wheeler Yuta

Dave: The babyfaces need to beat Big Money Matt's group.  Put it on first and make the crowd happy.

Mike: This will be about dives, getting the crowd to pop and Orange Cassidy's devastating lacksadasical offense.  Dino Friends and Best Friends unite in victory.

Cory: This is our crowd pleasing match where Orange Cassidy and the Best Friends get to knock around Matt Hardy's team for ten to fifteen minutes before winning.

Richard:  As soon as the changes were made to the PPV, I was trying to figure out what would replace the cancelled match and I was thinking something with the Dark Order but when we had the stuff happen during Dynamite, I figured this would be the match we end up with.  I hope Wheeler Yuta gets a chance to shine since he has done so well in so many companies at this time.  For a team that had so much momentum at the start of AEW's run, Private Party needs a strong showing to stay relevant.  The thing I am looking forward to the most for Hardy's team is Angelico's entrance, and if it is less than 5 minutes, I will be disappointed.   If Yuta or Jungle Boy could pin Hardy, it would mean a lot for them, but I would expect Jack Evans to take the pin.
