BOOKER ON PUNK, WRESTLING ON BROADWAY, KENDRICK AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-08-29 10:00:00

I seem to remember there being a Broadway show about pro wrestling in the last few years but I can't find anything on it.  Any ideas?

There hasn't been a Broadway show about pro wrestling in many years.  You may be thinking of the old Teacneck Tanzai play that featured Deborah Harry and Andy Kaufman, which famously closed the same night it opened or perhaps The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, which played off Broadway.  You can read my 2010 review at this link.

Where is Brian Kendrick?

Kendrick is working as a Producer for 205 Live.

Where is Serena Deeb?

She's under contract to AEW.

Not sure if you heard Booker T’s comments earlier?  What are your thoughts on this? I personally think he’s biased due to his WWE affiliation.
I also think a little jab as with all due respect Punk is in a completely different level, that Booker never truly reached.

I have a great respect for Booker's accomplishments, but I feel that his comments sounded like someone who didn't actually watch the promo.  The idea that Punk talked about WWE as opposed to himself is silly, as he used his WWE and Ring of Honor experiences and provided them as exposition to explain his exit and his return to professional wrestling.  it was about speaking to the audience that has been waiting for his return more than about anything else.  It's not like he went out there like Ultimate Warrior did when Warrior made his WCW debut and just went off the rails for 20+ minutes.  This was 9 minutes of someone talking to his home base about why he disappeared, apologizing to them if he let them down but explaining why he made his decisions.  This was not a scripted promo that went nowhere about being under a glass ceiling or not being a Wrestlemania main eventer.  As far as Booker saying Punk didn't make it about AEW, Punk only needed a few lines to make the Darby Allin match important, which he is good enough to do as a talker.  Those two lines were effective and worked.  If Booker couldn't see that for himself, that's on him.  I would hope he didn't crack on Punk simply because he's under contract to WWE and Punk isn't.

Where's that Vladimir documentary?

It's sitting in the WWE vault.  There's no timetable to release it, even though it was promised for this summer.
