GAME CHANGER WRESTLING NEWS AND NOTES

By Oliver Taylor on 2021-08-20 13:07:00

Drew Parker will attempt his first defense of Game Changer Wrestling’s GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Yuki Ishikawa at Big Japan Pro Wrestling’s show on September 23 in Korakuen Hall.

Parker defeated Alex Colon to win the title at the first night of GCW’s two-day Homecoming event on July 24 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Big Japan is recognising the title and Parker, or Ishikawa if he is victorious on September 23, will continue to defend it in Japan.

On August 15, Big Japan held a show in Shin-Kiba 1st ring for fans who donated to the company’s crowdsourcing campaign on CAMPFIRE last year. Ishikawa defeated Akira Hyodo in a deathmatch in the main event, and Parker came out afterwards to nominate Ishikawa as his first challenger for the GCW Ultraviolent Championship.

Ishikawa, not to be confused with the shoot-style legend of the same name, is the most popular young deathmatch wrestler in Big Japan.

For any international fans unfamiliar, Big Japan has its own subscription service called BJW Core. It costs 888 yen (just over $8 USD) per month. It can be viewed here.

Big Japan also has an English Twitter account, which can be viewed here.

GCW announced yesterday that New Japan Pro Wrestling superstar Minoru Suzuki will appear at four of its shows throughout September and October.

Suzuki will compete at GCW’s shows on September 17 in Los Angeles, September 24 in New York City, October 10 in Atlantic City and October 23 in Los Angeles.

Suzuki was scheduled to face All Elite Wrestling star Orange Cassidy at Joey Janela’s Spring Break IV last April, though the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic prevented the match from happening.

Suzuki previously wrestled at Matt Riddle’s Bloodsport in 2018 and Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport in 2019.

Juventud Guerrera’s match has been announced for GCW’s Off The Rails show tonight in Las Vegas. He will face Eli Everfly, Lucas Riley, Matt Vandagriff, Ninja Mack and Tre Lamar in a scramble.

The show will air live on FITE at 8pm PST. It is available to purchase for $13.99 USD here.
