New Japan Pro Wrestling
BUSHI, Dick Togo, EVIL, Gedo, SANADA, Shingo Takagi, Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro Takahashi all missed New Japan Pro Wrestling’s sixteenth Summer Struggle tour show today in Korakuen Hall due to the company’s COVID-19 protocols.
BUSHI and Takagi recorded a fever upon arrival to New Japan’s fourteenth Summer Struggle tour show two days ago in Shizuoka and were held off the show.
Both wrestlers were also held off New Japan’s fifteenth Summer Struggle tour show yesterday in Korakuen Hall, as well as the other six who were deemed to be in close contact with BUSHI and Takagi.
The full results from today’s show were:
• Great-O-Khan def. Tomoaki Honma
• Togi Makabe and Toru Yano def. Chase Owens and Jado
• DOUKI, Minoru Suzuki, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. def. Hirooki Goto, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima and YOSHI-HASHI
• Super Junior Tag League: Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask

El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori, the holders of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, in the main event to win the Super Junior Tag League. One could reasonably expect a match for the titles to take place very soon.

1. El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru (4-1 record): 8 points
2. El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori (4-1 record): 8 points

Ospreay has been out of action since he suffered a neck injury in May. Due to the injury, he was forced to vacate the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and has not wrestled since.
He made a surprise return at New Japan’s Resurgence show on August 14 in The Torch at L.A. Coliseum, Los Angeles, California. He announced he is now medically cleared to compete but will not compete in the upcoming G1 Climax tournament, as well as that New Japan’s America-based STRONG brand will be his new home.
Amid speculation that he could face Jon Moxley at All Elite Wrestling’s All Out pay-per-view on September 5 in the Now Arena, Hiroshi Tanahashi posted on Twitter that he is scheduled to travel back to Japan tomorrow.
