New Japan Pro Wrestling
BUSHI, Dick Togo, EVIL, Gedo, SANADA, Shingo Takagi, Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro Takahashi all missed New Japan Pro Wrestling’s fifteenth Summer Struggle tour show today in Korakuen Hall due to the company’s COVID-19 protocols.
BUSHI and Takagi recorded a fever upon arrival to yesterday’s Summer Struggle tour show in Shizuoka and were held off the show. Both wrestlers, and all others deemed to be in close contact with them, were held off today’s show.
Due to Dick Togo and Gedo’s absence, they forfeited their Super Junior Tag League match against Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi and the latter were automatically awarded two points.
The full results from today’s show were:
• Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma def. Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi
• Hirooki Goto, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima and YOSHI-HASHI def. DOUKI, Minoru Suzuki, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.
• Kazuchika Okada and Toru Yano def. Chase Owens and Jado
• Super Junior Tag League: El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori def. Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask
• Super Junior Tag League: El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru def. SHO and YOH
After the main event, SHO turned on YOH.
Having won the last three tournaments, the team had suffered a horrendous 0-3 start in the Super Junior Tag League. At the climax of today’s main event, SHO opted not to save YOH and watched from the outside as El Desperado picked up the victory.
SHO then hit Shock Arrow on YOH and announced backstage that his former partner is of no use to him anymore, putting an emphatic end on a nine-year partnership.
Since returning from excursion in 2017, SHO and YOH – better known as Roppongi 3K – were arguably one of the most dominant junior heavyweight tag team in modern history. As mentioned, the duo won the last three Super Junior Tag League tournaments and have also held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships five times (only topped by Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson’s seven reigns with the titles).
It remains to be seen what the future holds for SHO and YOH, but one has to imagine SHO might be migrating to a new faction in the near future.
Following today’s show, the updated Super Junior Tag League standings are:
1. El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori (4-0 record): 8 points
2. Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask (3-1 record): 6 points
3. El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru (3-1 record): 6 points
4. Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi (2-2 record): 4 points
5. Dick Togo and Gedo (0-4 record): 0 points
-. SHO and YOH (0-4 record): 0 points
