This week's edition of Impact Wrestling on AXS TV opened up with everything that went down on AEW setting up Christian Cage challenging tomorrow for the Impact Wrestling Championship against Kenny Omega. We will hear from both men later tonight.
Taylor Wilde vs. Tenille Dashwood with Kaleb with A K
The match opened with Wilde in control of Dashwood, working over her arm. Dashwood reversed but Wilde reversed it right back, sending Tenille scrambling backwards into the corner, shocked.
Wilde maintained control with a side headlock. She was sent off into the ropes but shoulderblocked Tenille down. Wilde followed up with a head scissors that sent Dashwood to the floor. Tenille spent some time on the floor to try and break some of the Wilde momentum. She brought Kaleb's fanny pack back into the ring. The referee took it away. Wilde maintained control until Kaleb tried to trip her. She chased him around the ring but still got the better of Tenille when Dashwood tried to attack her on the floor. Wilde tossed him into the ring barrier but that opened the window for Dashwood to cut her off as Wilde returned to the ring. Dashwood worked over Wilde, scoring several two counts and sent her into the buckles.
Dashwood nailed a lariat to take Wilde down for another two count. Wilde tried to fight back from underneath but was suplexed by Wilde. She followed up with a butterfly suplex into the buckles, which looked really good. Dashwood nailed her vertical high cross body against the buckles for a two count. Dashwood cinched in a side headlock. Wilde made a comeback. Kaleb tried to get involved, putting trying to use hairspray to blind Wilde but got the referee. Wilde grabbed him as the referee argued with Dashwood. As this was going on, MADISON RAYNE (who had retired) hit the ring and laid out Wilde, sending her into the corner. Dashwood nailed the Spotlight Kick and covered Wilde for the pin.
Your winner, Tenille Dashwood!
Dashwood and Rayne eyed each other up before embracing. That was a nice surprise return.
This was a really good back and forth match that was given a lot of time to develop. Fun return for Rayne, who had left the business to pursue her career beyond pro wrestling. Very curious to see how deep of a return this will be.
They showed a series of promos from talents in the Battle Royal.
X-Division Champion Josh Alexander vs. Shawn Daivari.
They locked up and Alexander forced him into the corner. Daivari muscled out and they tried to get the better of the other as they grappled around the ring. They battled over an arm with a series of reversals. Alexander took him to the mat and attempted an anklelock. The crowd chanted, "Walking Weapon." Jake Something came out on the ramp to scout as they went to commercial. Alexander sent Daivari to the outside and snapped him against the ropes. He nailed a bodypress to Daivari's back. Daivari gained control and nailed a dropkick to the back of Alexander while he was on the apron. Daivari smashed him into the guard rails and sent the champ back into the ring for a two count. Daivari kept stomping away at Alexander and cinched in a rear chinlock. They battled back and forth until Alexander nailed the C4 Spike and scored the pin.
Your winner, Josh Alexander!
Jake Something hit the ring, took the title and shoved it into Alexander's chest, sending the message that he was coming for him at the Emergence PPV.
They aired a video feature on Kenny Omega vs. Christian Cage.
Kiera Hogan came to the ring for a promo. She said Fire N' Flayva was supposed to be better than this, but she's going to address Tasha Steelz directly. She thought Tasha was a real one and understood her more than anyone, but Steelz thought she could pull a quick one on her. Steelz got her big "goofy-a** friend" but she knows how Hogan gets down. If Tasha wants it, she can get it.
Instead of Tasha, out came Kimber Lee and Su Yung. Yung send Kimber to hit the ring but Hogan nailed her. Yung put on her Mandible Claw glove and made her way to the ring. She used it to "control" Lee like a puppet and Lee put Hogan in the Mandible Claw. Yep, it was pretty silly. Hogan was dragged by her hair from the ring and up the aisle. They took Hogan to the back.
Backstage, AEW & Impact Wrestling Champion Kenny Omega was in the back with Don Callis. He said they Impact and AEW are trying to manipulate Omega like they played Impact by putting together the Battle Royal. Making Omega face Cage on Friday was skullduggery. Tony Khan and Scott D'Amore have their egos bruised but Don Callis wrote the book on these sorts of moves. They are bringing a knife to a gunfight and everyone will see what Omega and Callis have in store for them. Callis said they'll have the titles for the rest of their lives.
Chris Bey & Jay White vs. FinJuice
Some really good back and forth tag action here. White worked over Juice Robinson for a long time on the outside and scored several near falls. Bey tagged in and continued the beating. Bullet Club tagged in and out, controlling the ring. Robinson was whipped hard into the buckles.
Robinson was trapped in an abdominal stretch before finally escaping it with a hiptoss. He went for a back senton splash but Bey pulled his knees up. Juice finally broke free and made the hot tag to Finlay. He and White battled back and forth. Bey dove in but was caught with a twisting side slam for a two count. Everyone battled. Finlay nailed a Cactus clothesline over the top on White. Bey went for the Art of Finesse on Juice but Juice caught him. Finjuice nailed the Doomsday Device on Bey but White attacked everyone with a chair.
Your winners, FinJuice by DQ.
White threw a chair in the face of Finlay, KOing him to and covered him to show he could pin him at NJPW Resurgence this weekend. White said, "Never again" and grabbed the steel chair. He nailed a twisting DDT onto a chair and demanded his NEVER Openweight title belt.
Backstage, Tasha Steelz and Savannah Evans were interviewed by Gia Miller. Steelz said that a year ago, Kiera came to her and wanted to ride Hogan's coattails to the top. Steelz said she brought the flavor to Impact but the heatwave was grinding down and the heat was too hot for Kiera, so it was time for someone to go and it wasn't going to be Tasha. So, she brought the meanest, most savage person in the entire world. Now, no one is going to step to her. She said Hogan isn't going to be an issue. Fallah Bahh showed up and said he needs Steelz's help for backup with Decay. Steelz said she has a title with them as they are holding her titles. Savannah Evans looks especially menacing during all of this.
After a commercial, Melina Perez of the NWA was interviewed about facing Deonna Purrazzo at NWA Empower. She said that after 20 years, she never thought she'd have such a chance and she's grateful. Melina came off really believable and well here. Deonna came out and said that she's been training and showed footage of herself training with INVICTA's Atomweight Champion Alesha Zappitella. Melina said that she spoke to Impact Management and she'll be in the ring next week showing the world what she can do.
Alex Marvez of AEW interviewed Christian Cage. He said he and Kenny Omega are going to get to know each other really well over the next month. He's going to beat Omega for all of his titles. He said that he decided that since Omega is hesitant to defend his titles, he decided to take the Impact title off Omega and come back to Impact as champion. He said that everyone in the battle royal will have to deal with him if they win. Good promo.
Matt Cardona vs. the debuting John Skyler
Cardona nailed Skyler with a dropkick as he came off the ropes. He controlled Skyler with a flapjack, then clotheslined him over the top, Cardona went for a sliding kick through the ropes but Skyler avoided it. Cardona nailed him on the floor and tossed him back in.
Skyler took control and nailed a spear from the outside through the ropes for a two count. He peppered Cardona with a series of right hands. He charged Cardona in the corner but was kicked off. Cardona hit a missile dropkick and set up the Facewash as Rohit Raju and Shera came to the ring. Ryder was distracted, leading to Skyler rolling up Cardona for the pin.
Your winner, John Skyler!
Cardona challenged Rohit to come fight him, but Rohit and Shera just went to the back.
20 Man Battle Royal for Impact Championship Match at Emergence PPV
Everyone battled.
W. Morrisey was an early target of everyone as they treated him like he was Andre the Giant and was a massive, overpowering force. Finally, all the big men - Moose, Madman Fulton, Fallah, etc. all teamed up to force him over the top. Everyone battled. Callihan took Austin. Moose nailed a big boot on Callihan, sending him out. Moose and Sabin battled as Myers was out on the mat. Sabin locked on a sleeper, riding Moose's back. They ended up near the ropes and Myers dumped them over the top for the win.
Your winner, Brian Myers!!
Well, that is an interesting twist.
