By Mike Johnson on 2021-08-05 13:58:00

Publishers Weekly ran an obituary for former professional wrestler and artist Ted Lewin on Tuesday.  Lewin was 88 at the time of his passing.

As chronicled in his 1993 book I Was A Teenage Professional Wrestler, Lewin, who became an accomplished illustrator with over 200 books featuring his art, put himself through art school in Brooklyn, NY at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn by working as a professional wrestler.

Lewin was based out of the Northeast, wrestling from mid-1950s through 1967 for different promoters in the region w.  He faced then-WWWF Champion Buddy Rogers on one of the first-ever WWWF TV broadcasts in January 1963 in Bridgeport, CT.  Lewin was a regilar in Madison Square Garden, wrestling in both singles and teaming with his brothers Mark and Donn as well as their brother-in-law Danny McShain.

While Lewin was based out of the NYC area, Lewin did make appearances in Michigan for the Sheik's Big Time Wrestling and the Houston territory.

Once Lewin felt he had established himself enough as an illustrator, he retired from the ring.
