It's Wednesday night, AEW is in Garland Texas at the Curtis Culwell Center and it's time for Fyter Fest Night 2 on Dynamite. Our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.
We start off with the First Labor of Jericho and MJF is on commentary. The crowd joins in the singalong.
Chris Jericho vs Shawn Spears with Tully Blanchard. Shawn can use a chair, and Jericho may not
Shawn starts out carrying a chair, and Jericho was able to knock it out of his hands and starts up as he and Shawn start with work into the ring and then outside the ring. After whipping Shawn into the barricade, Jericho grabs the camera and shoots the crowd. As they get back int jhe ring, Shawn has a second chair and waffles Jericho in the head (hands up). Any time Shawn gets an advantage, Jericho is able to come back quickly.
Shawn starts to work over Jericho's arm and MJF talks about how they want to injure his arm so that MJF can take him out with his Salt of the Earth arm bar at some point in the future. Jericho is also able to work over Shawn on top of a turn buckle and hits a avalanche Hurricanrana. I would think that the chair would be used more, but most fo the match is a deliberately placed match. Shawn brings in a third chair, and Jericho is able to lock on the Walls of Jericho. Tully distracts the ref as Shawn taps out and Sammy Guevara pulls him off the apron.
Shawn gets out by hitting Jericho with a chair and hits the C4 for a two count. He then sets up to hit a C4 on a chair, and Jericho escapes, hits theJudaw Effect and covers Shawn for the three count.
Your winner: Chris Jericho
MJF grabs a mic and says if anyone else comes out to help in any future matches, the deal is off. Next week is a no DQ match with Nick Gage!
THAT surprised me.
Gage comes out with a GCW shirt on, and the announcers put over Gage by talking about how he almost died in a death match. They then go down the card for the night.
Miro has a pre-tape where he will defend his title in two weeks at Homecoming, and hammers on his new nickname, The Redeemer.
Frankie Kazarian vs Doc Gallows w/Karl Anderson
First time on Dynamite for Kaz in his new gear and he goes right at Gallows. It's a speed vs strength match. When Kaz goes outside the ring, Gallows distracts the ref for Karl to clothesline him right as we go picture in picture. We even lose the small picture for the last few ads. Kaz is able to break away from Gallows by pulling his beard and gouging his eyes and the ref kinda looks on shocked instead of admonishing him.
Gallows distracts the ref as Karl tries to interfere, and Kaz drop him, but Gallows is able to his Kaz with a power bomb and pins for the win.
Your winner: Doc Gallows
They start to beat down Kaz and nail him with a magic killer as we get Kenny Omega's music and he and Don Callis come out. Don says this is what happens when you mess with the Elite. Kenny's clothing choice isn't as terrible as usual. He tells Kaz that the Elite Hunter has become...and Don whispers in his ear, and finishes that the Elite Hunter has become the Elite Hunter as Adam Page, drink in hand, comes to the ring.
Kaz has rolled out of the ring, and Don says that Page is outnumbered. Don asks if he's stupid or drunk. Page starts swinging and the Dark Order run to the ring. Omega runs from the ring and the Dark Order beat down the Good Brothers and stand tall in the ring. This crowd is HOT for Page.
In the back, Dasha is with Brian Cage as they watch Team Taz talking about how they will celebrate next week. Cage says he loves celebrations.
Wheeler Yuta w/Orange Cassidy vs Darby Allin w/His dad, Sting
The announcers put over how brutal last week's coffin match was, and Darby's ribs are taped. These two are around the same size, and they trade holds. Hikaleo (from New Japan Guerrillas of Destiny) is shown watching on in the crowd. The match is filled with a lot of trading holds and is different from what we have seen from Darby in most of his matches. As Darby and Wheeler recover from a super plex, Sting and Orange both show some sloth style moves that got a laugh out fo me when Sting did them.
Darby is able to get a coffin drop on Wheeler for the three count.
Your winner: Darby Allin
Blade comes out of the crowd and nails Orange Cassidy with the brass knickles before their match later tonight.
This may be one of my favorite Darby Allin matches, because it's wasn't Darby being tossed around and barely surviving, but a match showing his ability to trade hold and have a 50-50 match.
We then get a video package showing the issues between Jon Moxley and Lance Archer for their Texas Death Match later tonight.
Britt Bakes /Reba (Women's champion) vs Nyla Rose w/Vickie Guerrero
We get a video package of Nyla beating up Baker a few weeks ago as she comes to the ring. Britt Baker comes out to the biggest pop of the night.
Baker gets in a lot of offense until Nyla is able to slam Baker to the mat and takes over. Rebel pulls Baker off the ropes before Nyla goes for a leg drop as the ref watches. Then we go picture in picture for Baker to work over Nyla. Baker goes for a discus punch when we go full picture and she seemed like she was moving in slow motion to allow for Nyla to his a clothesline herself. These two just are not jelling for this match.
Baker gets a backslide that the crowd REALLY felt was a three count. Baker gets her glove as Nyla gets up and walks into an attempted power bomb. Baker escapes and Nyla is able to hit the leg drop off the top onto Baker on the ropes for a two count. They trade a series of near falls after big moves and Baker hits a pair of Curb stomps for a two count.
Rebel distracts the ref, and Baker tosses the belt to Nyla and dross to the mat so the ref may think Nyla cheated, but Vickie convinces the ref it was a ploy. Baker is finally able to get on the lockjaw and Nyla taps out.
Your winner and still Champion Britt Baker
The first half of the match seemed like they were out of sync, but once they go to the big moves and near falls, the match picked up. Baker looked strong in her first title defence, and the crowd is fully in Baker's corner, even when she does use rule-breaking tactics.
We then go to a pre recorded press conference with FTR and Santana and Ortiz. Ortix puts over coming up from poverty to where he is today. FTR get in their face and we don't see any reporters as security separates them.
We are then down at the ring for Tony Schiavone to ask his single question of Andrade El Idolo. He has someone with him carrying a case of some kind. Tony doesn't get a chance to ask his question and Andrade says he has a surprise for everyone. Tony then introduces Andrade's executive consultant, Chavo Guerrero.
Chavo tanks everyone for remembering him and he puts over AEW as the place to be. He then says no one has as much talent as Andrade, and that means Death Triangle shows up. The Bastard Pac has a mic and he says they hide from no one. The crowd chants for Penta as Andrade tries to cut a promo in Spanish. Chavo then translates and says they are all talented, but his waist isn't shiny enough, and if he wants Gold, he should listen to Andrade.
Andrade asks why Rey and Penta why they work for Pac when they could work for Andrade. Pac says they don't work for him, they are a brotherhood. Ray says they are the real face of the Latino. Penta cuts a Spanish promo and his translator why join a group with Andrade when he isn't even on their level.
Chavo takes the mic as the refs come out to keep everyone separated and we go to the Hardy Family talking to the crowd before the show. It turned into a battle between Jurassic Express with Christian Cage vs the Hardy family. Cage they says they will fight the Hardy Family next week.
Backstage, QT Marshall says that next week, Tony Schiavone will get an apology for having a protien shake dumped on his head.
Blade w/The Bunny vs Orange Cassidy
Cassidy comes out through the crowd and Blade asks to have his hand raised when he doesn't see Cassidy come from the back. Cassidy gets an early shot in but Blade quickly takes control of the match. When Cassidy takes control. Blade begs off saying his knee is injured. Blade then sneak attacks Cassidy and they trade power moves.
Cassidy takes a gut wrench bomb on the top rope as we go picture in picture. Cassidy takes a beating on the small screen and Cassidy starts his comeback. When Bunny gets on the apron, Kris Statlander pulls her down and they have some shenangians with everyone involved outside the ring. Cassidy is selling that his back to too injured from some of his moves.
Blade hit a corkscrew tombstone and Cassidy kicks out at 2,
Ugh.
Cassidy tries for the beach break and his back gives out. He is able to get it the second time for a two count. Bunny tosses the brass knuckles into the ring, but Cassidy dodges it, hits the Superman Punch and covers Blade for the three count.
Your winner: Orange Cassidy
Cassidy has the brass knuckles and he tags Blade with a Superman Punch while wearing them after the match.
We then go to a backstange interview with Jericho about next week's match with Nick Gage. Jericho speaks with his back to the camera and says he will bring the most violent version of Horsier. The Painmaker.
We then get a rundown of next week's card for Fight for the Fallen. This followed by a video showing the feud between Cody Rhodes and Malachi Black.
Jon Moxley (IWGP US Champion) vs Lance Archer w/Jake Roberts Texas Death Match (only way to win is knockout or submission)
Mox comes out of the crowd. JR reminds us this will be under New Japan rules. <Mox starts with a Kedno stick and it quickly goes to outside the ring where Archer grabs the stick and goes after Mox. They brawl into the crowd after colliding with the barricade. Archer grabs a fan and tosses him at Mox.
They brawl back into the ring and Archer punches Mox as Mox goes for a Tope, which stops him in his tracks. Mox gets a DDT on the exposed concrete floor and we have our first count. Jake stood between Mox and Archer until Archer was up and Archer is Busted Open. Mox pulls out a fork and goes after Archer's head. We go to picture in picture, and Mox keeps working Acher over with the fork on the small screen.
We come back to Mox leaping onto a chair wrapped around Archer's knee. We also have a garbage can and a chair in the ring and Mox goes to attack with the trash can lid, and Archer punches it out of his hands. They trade blows in the middle of the ring. Mox wins the exchange and bites Archer, which fires Archer up. Archer get a flurry of offence and it looks like Mox has been busted opn. We then get Archer using the trash can/.
Archer sets up chairs and goes for the blackout through the chairs, but Mox cuts him off with a low blow. Archer then choke slams Mox onto the chairs backs first. Mox is up and hits a Paradigm shift and then uses the fork again. He then pulls out barbed wire boards and sets them up on tables. As Mox tries to set up, Archer attacks him with a fork and then Archer choke slams Mox through the tables and he can't answer the ten count.
Your winner and new IGWP US Champion: Lance Archer
Hikuleo comes to the ring to face off with Archer as they will fight next week.
