IPWHF ANNOUNCES 2021 EXCELSIOR AWARD RECIPIENT
ALBANY, NY - July 20 - The International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame is extremely proud to announce the inaugural "Excelsior Award" will be posthumously presented to legendary comedian Andy Kaufman as part of the 2021 IPWHF Hall of Fame Induction on Saturday August 28 at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, New York.
The Excelsior Award is an honor given in recognition of an esteemed and accomplished individual from a profession outside of pro wrestling, whose actions and contributions have elevated our industry and brought the sport to a higher level.
His legendary rivalry with Jerry "The King” Lawler was key in propelling professional wrestling into the mainstream lexicon and into more American households than ever before. From Andy's famous promos and intergender matches to the infamous "Letterman Incident", this rivalry is often heralded as one of the most noted and memorable rivalries in wrestling history, and Andy's passion for professional wrestling and entertainment make him the 2021 recipient of the IPWHF "Excelsior Award".
Join us for this historic evening on Saturday August 28 as we posthumously present the 2021 Excelsior Award to the late Andy Kaufman.
The IPWHF is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization and recognized by the New York State Board of Regents as an educational institution dedicated to the preservation of the history of pro wrestling.
