Impact Wrestling will present the 2021 Slammiversary PPV tonight on PPV and FITE.TV. Here is our take on what should go down on the show!
*Impact Wrestling Champion Kenny Omega with Don Callis vs. Sami Callihan - NO DQ.
Dave: I get whey Impact has played a part in the Belt Collector storyline and I don't expect the Title changes here, but if it did, I would be fine with that. Omega continually beating Impact talents could hurt the company in the long run. At least with the stipulation here they can use everyone and their mother to help Kenny retain.
Mike: I love the idea that basically Batman has failed and it's on The Joker to save Gotham City and wrest the Impact title away from Kenny Omega. The No DQ deal should mean a lot more brawling and weapons than we really expect from a Kenny Omega match traditionally, but is this the time to change the title? My gut really says this keeps going at least until Bound for Glory where hopefully they can draw a live crowd to see Omega drop the belt. So, I expect Callis and The Good Brothers to make the difference here, perhaps setting up the odd man situation where someone like Eddie Edwards backs his mortal enemy, Callihan going forward.
Richard: The No DQ stipulation should help this match but isn't that the way almost every Kenny Omega AEW Title defense has been done? Is Sami the man who should 'liberate' Impact from the evil clutches of AEW in the TKU? Omega needs to hold on to the title long enough so Sting can get his Bound for Glory title match. With it being No DQ, I expect shenanigans to help Omega, but will anyone come out to help Callihan? Is company pride enough to get people to want to help Sami?
*Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo vs. mystery challenger.
Dave: Unless they have someone like Ronda Rousey coming in (and I don't expect that they do), Deonna should retain here.
Mike: They have teased everyone from Chelsea Green to Mickie James and I've seen theories that it's everyone from Tessa Blanchard to Britt Baker and beyond, so Impact has grabbed the audience's attention with this one. To me, unless they truly think this challenger is going to bring their Women's division a huge surge of attention, I don't believe there should be a title change. Whoever it is, to me, Deonna should be retaining. Her work has been excellent in recent months and she should be rewarded with a big win.
Richard: I hope they keep the mystery of the opponent until the match is over and then we find out it is the granddaughter of Spider Lady and she is the new champion. We have seen so many times when an unknown opponent makes an appearance and they beat a champion (see Booking, WWE). Deonna should win, but I think they could get people talking if it is a name 'from another company' that comes in and wins the title. However, it also minimizes the talent they have under contract.
*Ultimate X - Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion Josh Alexander vs. Ace Austin with Madman Fulton vs. Rohit Raju with Mahabali Shera vs. Petey Williams vs. Trey Miguel vs. Chris Bey.
Dave: The odds are always against the champ retaining and more times than not, he/she does. I will go with that happening here as well.
Mike: This should be a lot of fun for folks who want to see car crash, crazy wrestling and big bumps. Josh Alexander has been IN THE ZONE lately as a performer and I can't see him wanting anything but another stellar performance here. Chris Bey has been the center of the story here in recent weeks about what side he's on and of course, he's on his own side, as he should be. There are no weak link performers here and you can make a case for every single competitor to win. So, who should it be? In my mind, Josh Alexander, perhaps after Bey ends up having karma take him out for attacking his partners on Impact on AXS this past week. If this is anything short of great, I'll be shocked.
Richard: This will be a car crash in a good way with the history of this match. With what Chris Bey did at the end of the eight man tag match this week, he will have the biggest target on his back. I really don't want to see Alexander lose the title and it is a bit of a cop out to have the title change without the champion being pinned. They made a big deal about Miguel staying with the company so he could be an option. I agree with Mike that Raju is one of the most underutilized talents in the company and he had a good run on top. Let Alexander retain but give the person who will take the title from him have the best performance in the match.
*Moose vs. Chris Sabin.
Dave: I expect Sabin to give Moose a good fight, but succumb in the end. I don't see any way Moose loses here.
Mike: Sabin's work since returning in this storyline has been really inspired and enjoyable but my gut here is the long-term plan is Moose chasing and beating Omega down the line, so I expect an entertaining battle and Moose going over in the end to give him some even more legitimacy.
Richard: Moose is the guy they are pushing but Sabin has been so good for so long and his most recent run has shown that he hasn't lost a step from his hey day.
*Impact Wrestling Knockouts Tag Team Champions Fire N' Flayva vs. Rosemary & Havok.
Dave: This one could go either way, which is always fun for the viewer to watch. So I will flip a coin. It came up Title change.
Mike: I am the biggest fan of Kiera Hogan and Tasha Steelz but for this one, I think the time is right for a title change. They basically made it clear on TV that Havok and Rosemary are going to be a regular team going forward already. They have been stalwarts here and I like the idea of the champs having to scheme to try and get their titles back. This should be a lot of fun in terms of shenanigans and facial expressions from the champs. Havok deserves the moment with a title and I hope we see her get the tombstone and win.
Richard: Keep the titles on Hogan and Steelz. They have done a good job as champion and it seems like something is going to happen to fracture the Havok/Rosemary team with the James Mitchell involvement. This should be a good match but Havok and Rosemary will fall short in their chance to win the titles on Saturday.
*Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions Violent By Design with Eric Young vs. The Good Brothers vs. TJP & Fallah Bahh vs. Rich Swann & Willie Mack.
Dave: I think the Champs should retain but could I see The Good Brothers stealing the belts? Yes, I could.
Mike: TJP going down and not being here will hurt the bout somewhat as his work has been so strong of late but with all the big guys featured, I expect more of a slugfest here vs. a smooth match with a lot of technical finesse. Violent by Design shouldn't lose the title but if there's going to be a switch, the Good Brothers seem to be the most logical idea. I'd keep the titles where they were.
Richard: A multi team match can only mean one thing . . . FINISHERPALOOZA. It would be nice to see Mack and Swann get the titles since they previously won singles gold. I think the champions will retain and Gallows will not be the one to be pinned.
*Matt Cardona & his mystery partner vs. Tenille Dashwood & Kaleb with A K - Mixed Tag Team Match.
Dave: The idea of the match is for Cardona to get revenge. I think that happens.
Mike: Obviously, the big tease on TV was Chelsea Green coming back to Impact to help her man Cardona get revenge on his ex-girfriend Tenille. Dashwood and Kaleb have been a really good act over the last year and I suspect this will be fun.
Richard: What if the mystery partner is the same person who is going to be Deonna's opponent in the Women's Title Match? Do they go with a 'new talent' or do they go with Jordynne Grace or Rachael Ellering? Cardona and his partner will get the victory because there is no "W" in Kaleb.
*W. Morrisey vs. Eddie Edwards.
Dave: I think Eddie is going down, and going down hard.
Mike: Eddie is great but the last few months have been about making Morrisey an old school monster and it's way, way, way too soon for him to be losing. Either he wins or he gets himself DQ'd but the right call would be to have him win clean.
Richard: If they want to build a guy for the future, they need to have Morrissey get the win. Eddie is teflon in Impact so it doesn't matter if he wins the match but to help put Morrissey over, it will do more for the company.
