COMPLETE AEW FYTERFEST REPORT

By Anthony Pires on 2021-07-14 20:20:00

It's Wednesday night and you know what that means.  That means it's NIGHT ONE of Fyter Fest LIVE from Austin, TX. Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone and Excalibur have the call on tonight's action.

IWGP U.S. Championship: Jon Moxley (Champion) vs. Karl Anderson

Eddie Kingston joins the champion and Doc Gallows accompanies his Good Brother.  Kingston immediately attacks Gallows with a pipe and Moxley goes to work.  NJPW rules apply here.  Boot to the face by Anderson.  We have a forearm exchange, Moxley gets the better of it but Anderson with an uppercut.  Anderson grabs the ear and fores away.  Mox with a headbutt and a clothesline over the top rope.  Into the rail goes Anderson.  Anderson blocks a suplex and nails one on the ramp.  Anderson sends him into the rails and chops away.  Moxley regains control and nails a series of right hands on the floor.  Moxley tosses him back in but eats a clothesline and a boot to the face.  Moxley slumps to the floor.  Moxley crawls back and suffers a series of punches.  Spinebuster by Anderson for 2. Anderson to the top, Moxley meets him with a right hand and rakes the back.  Moxley with a superplex.  German suplex by Moxley but a pair of double clotheslines put both men down.  Moxley applies a sleeper and hits some knee strikes.  Anderson catches him and hits a Greetings from Asbury Park for 2.  Blockbuster by Anderson.  Anderson blocks a Death Rider and hits a cutter.  Uppercut and a Diamond Cutter by Anderson for 2.  Anderson goes for a top rope stunner but Moxley catches him with the Death Rider for the pin.

WINNER AND STILL IWGP U.S. CHAMPION: Jon Moxley

We hear from Lance Archer, who stops Jake Roberts from talking.  Archer wants the IWGP U.S. title. They had a banger at the Tokyo Dome and he wants a Texas Death Match for next week. Prediction: Moxley will accept.

Alex Abrahantes caught up with Andrade El Idolo.  He has permission from Tony Kahn to kick down that forbidden door and challenge for titles all over the world. He has a message for the Death Triangle.  He had someone else besides Vickie Guerrero with him

FTW Championship: Brian Cage (recognized FTW champion) vs. Ricky Starks

Taz has joined the booth.  Powerhouse Hobbs and Hook are observing at ringside.  Taz has had limited contact with both men.  Cage with a pair of rights and Cage with a hiptoss into a press slam.  Cage sends Starks into a series of buckles.  He crotches Starks on the top rope and hits a powerslam for 2.  Cage misses a charge and Starks attacks the left bicep.  Starks with a dropkick off the top rope as we head to commercial.

While we're on commercial, I'd like to thank everyone who reached out to me to offer condolences of the passing of my father in law.  May he rest in peace.

We're back and Starks with a 2 count. Cage with a shoulderblock and Starks goes to the floor.  Cage with a boot to the midsection and slams him into the post.  He throws Starks into another but Starks flips through it and hits a clothesline.  Starks with a rear choke but Cage with a lariat for 2.  Superkick by Cage after blocking a DDT.  Starks slips under a suplex and hits a powerbomb for 2.  Starks grabs the FTW belt but Hobbs pulls it away.  Cage with an F5 but Starks kicks out at 2.  Hook distracts the referee and Hobbs nails Cage with the belt.  Starks with a spear for the pin.

WINNER AND NEW FTW CHAMPION: Ricky Starks

Team Taz celebrates.  Taz himself is jubilant.  This was clearly a set up.

We see a replay of the debut of Malakai Black.  Arn Anderson will be OK and here comes Cody Rhodes to the booth.  He's VERY angry and wants Black.  He grabs a mic and heads to the ring.  He demands Black answer his call for a fight.  Black appears on the screen.  He tells a story of a man who had to kill his horse as it got too old so it could go out with dignity.  Black says Cody and Arn don't have a hungry look in their eye.

The lights go out and, when they come on, Black and Cody start brawling.  Referees come out to separate them.

Tully Blanchard is with Alex Marvez.  Santana and Ortiz confront him.  They threaten him and leave him scared.  They issue a warning to the Pinnacle.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring.  He brings out Adam Hangman Page.  Will Tony get 2 questions in?Page admits he failed before but the Dark Order was right.  He begins his formal challenge but Don Callis and the Elite come out.  Matt Jackson enters the ring and mocks him hitting the bottle. He calls Page a sad, lonely drunk.  He calls Page the next big wrestling tragedy.  Page lays out Jackson.  The Elite run in but the Dark Order come in to even the odds.  Page grabs the mic and he wants a match.  Looks like we're getting a 5 on 5 elimination match.  Page doesn't want that.  If the Dark Order wins, Page gets a shot at Omega and the Dark Order gets a tag team title shot.  Omega accepts and enters the ring but Omega wants something in return.  If the Elite win, the Dark Order doesn't get a shot and Page can't ever challenge Omega.  Page says the Dark Order doesn't back down.  We're on!  For tonight?  we shall see...

Alex Marvez is with Le Champion.  The Five Labors of Jericho is a great idea, as per Jericho himself.  He does not care who the 5 challenges are. MJF and Shawn Spears.  The first Labor is Shawn Spears in a match where Spears can use a chair, but Jericho cannot.

Matt Hardy vs. Christian Cage

Hardy send the HFO to the back.  This is so surreal seeing these guys 22 years after I first saw them square off.  Lockup, Hardy muscles him back.  They tumble from the ring in a lockup position.  Headlock by Cage into a slap.  He legsweeps Hardy and sends him into the barricade.  Cage off the top rope lands on Hardy on the floor.  Reverse DDT by Cage for 2.  Big series of right hands. Cage hits the 10 count of punches in the corner.  Hardy grabs a front facelock and DDT's Cage on the steps.  Elbows by Hardy.  Rude Awakening by Hardy for 2.  Cage fires back but Hardy puts him down and catapults him across the bottom rope.  Elbow drop for 2 by Hardy as we go to commercial.

We're back as cage sweeps Hardy off the 2nd rope. Big right by Cage, he scores a 2.  Hardy with a gut punch but Cage blocks a twist of fate.  cage with a spear for 2. Hangman by Cage off the rope, he hits a frog splash for 2.  Hardy with punches and sets up a superplex.  He nails it for 2.  Inside cradle but Hardy with a well timed low blow and a twist of fate for 2. Christian rolls out and Hardy hits the Leech on the outside.  Hardy reenters the ring and Christian barely beats the count and immediately hits the killswitch for the pin.

WINNER: Christian Cage

Here comes the HFO but Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus have his back.

Miro is in the back and tells the tale of a man who wasn;t himself.  A voice from above reminded him who he is.  He is God's Favorite Champion. He is the Redeemer.

Tony Schiavone brings out Dr. Britt Baker DMD.  He declares herself 100% ready for Nyla Rose next week.  It's very tiring keeping Rose relevant.  After next week, Rose's descension into irrelevancy is complete.  She poses as Guerrero, on the screen, says her days are numbered.

Jon Moxley accepts Archer's challenge for next week.

Wheeler Yuta vs. Sammy Guevara

I just saw Yuta 3 weeks ago in front of 200 people in Worcester, MA.  Seeing him on National TV is very cool.    Blade and Bunny are at ringside watching Yuts, who's alligned with Best Friends.  Dropkick by Sammy, yuta to the outside as Sammy poses.  Leg sweep by Yuta, into a back elbow.  Sammy with a powerslam, he chases Yuta with a series of moonsaults before hitting one.  Yuta gets his knees up to combat a shooting star.  Yuta with a dropkick.  Back elbow into a hiptoss by Sammy, German by Yuta.  Yuta hits a splash off the top for 1.  Sammy with chops and a back body drop.  Enziguiri by Sammy into a springboard cutter.  GTS by Sammy and he scores the pin.

WINNER: Sammy Guevara

Tony Schiavone in the back with QT, Solow and Comorotro.  QT pours iced coffee on Tony and walks off.

Penelope Ford vs. Yuka Sakazaki

I love the fact that Ford has her hair back in braids.  Gives her an air of legitimacy.  Armdrags by Yuka into a headlock. Boot tot he face by Yuka and she follows up with a dropkick.  Ford regroups on the outside.  yuka with a cannonball to the outside.  Ford with a kick back in the ring.  She chokes her on the middle rope as we head to commercial.

We're back and Yuka with forearms .  She escapes a fireman carry and hits a brain buster.  Sliding elboe by Yuka for 2.  Flying back elbow by Yuka for 2.  Ford tries forearms and nails a pump kick for 2.  Yuka with a spinning face first slam and hits a Magical Girl Splash for the pin.

WINNER: Yuka Sakazaki

Coffin Match: Darby Allin vs. All Ego Ethan Page

I guess we're not getting that elimination match tonight.  A series of black clad men bring out the casket.  No Sting, No Scorpio Sky, it's mano y mano (for now).  Allin attacks Page with away with a running elbow.  Allin has a steel plate attached ton his back and hits a coffin drop and a tope suicida. Scorpio Sky emerges from the coffin and nails a clothesline and send Allin into the post.  Here comes Sting and he beats Sky to the back through the crowd.  THE JESUS GUY IS HERE.  Allin sends Page into the crowd as we go to commercial.

We're back and Page sends Allin back into the ring.  The steps are in the ring and Page sends Allin face first into them. Shoulderblock by Page, the bottom rope is now detached and Page hooks it around Darby's neck. Page calls for the coffin to be opened but Darby punches him and fishhooks him with the ropes hook.  Allin throws Page into the coffin but Page pulls him in.  They exchange punches.  Page with open palm strikes to the ear but Darby bits his hand. Both men are out of the coffin.  Allin is bleeding slightly.  Chop block into a stunner by Darby.  Darby goes for the coffin drop but Page blocks him and hits the Ego's Edge on the steps.

Page drags him to the apron but Allin gouges the eyes.  Darby pulls out the skateboard and and slams it into Page's back.  Page slumps into the coffin and Allin closes the lid.

WINNER: Darby Allin

Allin celebrates as he glares down at the coffin.  For good measure, he nails a coffin drop through the coffin, further damaging Page.

We go to credits.
