New Japan Pro Wrestling
New Japan Pro Wrestling held the second night of its two-night Summer Struggle in Sapporo event today in Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena.
The full results were:
• El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru def. SHO and Yuya Uemura
• Rocky Romero, Ryusuke Taguchi and Tomohiro Ishii def. El Phantasmo, EVIL and Taiji Ishimori
• KENTA and Yujiro Takahashi def. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Yota Tsuji
• Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb def. Kazuchika Okada and YOH
• Shingo Takagi def. Master Wato
• IWGP Tag Team Championships: SANADA and Tetsuya Naito def. Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. (c)
Kota Ibushi did not compete on the show due to suffering from the side effects of his first COVID-19 vaccine. Bushiroad founder Takaaki Kidani confirmed all company employees, including New Japan wrestlers, received their first COVID-19 vaccine on July 8.
Rocky Romero pinned El Phantasmo to win the second match. Afterwards, Romero took a microphone to announce he and Ryusuke Taguchi will challenge Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.
Jeff Cobb continued to trash talk Kazuchika Okada after the fourth match, perhaps hinting a singles match could take place between the two at Wrestle Grand Slam on July 25 in the Tokyo Dome.
SANADA and Tetsuya Naito defeated Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. to win the IWGP Tag Team Championships in the main event. The victory marks the first time Naito has held the titles in over 11 years when he and Yujiro Takahashi defeated then-champions Brother Devon and Brother Ray as well as Giant Bernard and Karl Anderson in a three-way tag team match at Wrestle Kingdom IV in 2010.
Backstage, the former champions immediately demanded a rematch and it seems a second bout will take place at Wrestle Grand Slam.
