From Hokkaido, Japan:
Before the show started, they announced a change in the card as Kota Ibushi still had a fever from his COVID vaccination. New Japan apologized to the crowd for the change. Hopefully, Ibushi makes a full recovery prior to Wrestle Grand Slam in July 25.
Hiromu Takahashi ran to the ring to open the show and speak on the changes in the card and the main event featuring his teammates from Los Ingobernales de Japon.
1 - Yuya Uemura and SHO vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado
Desperado had his left shoulder taped heavily as a result of Taiji Ishimori’s submissions last night.
Uemura was eager to start the match against Kanemaru. Kanemaru took the match to the floor and beat on Uemura on the guardrail. SHO tags in and quickly goes after Desperado’s taped shoulder. Desperado tags out to Kanemaru and SHO hits a double spear on Suzuki-Gun.
Uemura tags and battles Kanemaru. They trade submissions. Kanemaru hits Deep Impact on Uemura. Kanemaru pins Uemura.
Solid match. Desperado was hurting tonight so Kanemaru did most of the work. Hopefully, El Desperado will be healthy and ready for Wrestle Grand Slam on July 25, where he may face Robbie Eagles.
2 - Rocky Romero, Ryusuke Taguchi and Tomohiro Ishii vs. El Phantasmo, Taiji Ishimori and EVIL, with Dick Togo
Ishimori came to the ring limping. Ishii attacked EVIL before the introductions. Rocky and Taguchi went after the Jr. Tag Team Champions. Ishii and EVIL battled it out on the floor. Bullet Club took turns beating on Rocky then on Taguchi, keeping Ishii on the ring apron.
Ishii tags in but Togo distracts him and EVIL takes advantage. Pace picks up. Rocky and Taguchi enter the ring. ELP kicks Rocky in the hand. ELP goes for CR2 and Rocky rolls up ELP and gets the pin.
ELP is shocked, and Bullet Club grabs their titles. Rocky Romero gets the mic and says that he and Taguchi will challenge them for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.
ELP shouted obscenities at them and Bullet Club left ringside.
3 - Yota Tsuji and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Yujiro Takahashi and KENTA
KENTA attacks Tanahashi before the bell. They both brawl in the ring. Tanahashi is angry. They continue to battle and both tag out to their partners. Tsuji and Takahashi had good battle as well. KENTA and Tanahashi hit each other with stiff shots. They fought to the floor. Tsuji and Takahashi continued the match in the ring. Tsuji applied a Boston Crab but Takahashi gets to the ropes. Takahashi hits Pimp Juice and pins Tsuji.
4 - YOH and Kazuchika Okada vs. Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb
Cobb starts the match against Okada. Cobb used his power to control the match early on. YOH and O-Khan tag in. O-Khan overpowered YOH with a head and arm choke. United Empire take turns beating on YOH while Okada watches from the apron. YOH is able to tag out and Okada attacks O-Khan. Pace picks up.
Okada went for a drop kick. Cobb came from behind Okada and grabbed him out of the air and threw him with a Spin Cycle suplex. O-Khan threw YOH into the arms of Cobb who hit Tour of the Islands.
Cobb pins YOH.
Jeff Cobb is awesome. Cobb vs. Okada should be awesome.
Cobb continued to call Okada a “young boy”, and telling him “next time you better get me an ice pack”. Okada does not look happy.
5 - Master Wato vs. Shingo Takagi
Wato hit Takagi with aerial attacks. Takagi absorbed most of Wato’s offense. Wato tried to hit kick strikes and elbows. Takagi sends Wato to the ring floor with a clothesline. Takagi started with his power attack and began to slowly break down Wato. Wato came back with kick strikes, but Takagi was on another level.
Takagi hits Last of the Dragon and pins Wato.
Good match. Wato had a good showing but Takagi looked like a World Champion.
6 - IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship: SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi
El Desperado came to ringside for commentary. He and Hiromu, who was already on Japanese commentary, took photos of each other.
DOUKI accompanied Zack Sabre Jr. to ringside. Miho Abe appears again! She is all smiles as she comes to the ring with Taichi.
SANADA and ZSJ begin with mat wrestling. This is awesome technical wrestling here. Both men tag out to Naito and Taichi. Pace picks up. Too much to recap here. Taichi catches Naito on the floor and injured his left arm. This gives a target for ZSJ to attack. Naito tags to SANADA. SANADA hurts ZSJ with a dragon screw. Taichi tags in and he trades strikes with SANADA.
My apologies with the lack of play by play. Too much action to recap.
Naito gets planted by Taichi with a Dangerous Backdrop. ZSJ traps Naito in a Cobra Twist. Naito gets to the ropes. All men are exhausted.
SANADA traps Taichi in Skull End. Naito hits ZSJ with Destino.
Naito pins Zack Sabre Jr.
Tetsuya Naito and SANADA win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship!
Wow! This match was awesome. I did not expect this win. I expected Dangerous Tekkers to hold the belts for a while. If you are able to watch this match, please check it out.
Naito applauds Taichi and ZSJ as they leave the ring.
Naito takes the mic and thanks the fans for coming. Naito thanks SANADA for suggesting that they go after the Tag Titles. He puts over Shingo Takagi as the World Heavyweight Champion.
