It's Wednesday and you know what that means, AEW Dynamite is on the air and on the road. We are in Miami Florida at the James L. Knight Center, our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone and it's time to get started.
Every show in July will have a name, so this one is the Road Rager and JR is saying this is a New Season, now that they are back on the road. We start off with Cody Elaborate Entrance.
Cody vs QT Marshall in a South Beach Strap Match
They are going with the “Touch all four corners” for this match. QT tries to stall and Cody attacks him outside the ring and tosses him in so that they can be strapped together. The big thing they need to do is make it so QT, who has lost every time he has come up against Cody, has some sort of chance in the match. It's a no DQ match, so Solow from the Factory attacks Cody, and Dustin comes out to drive him off.
QT is busted open because it can't be a Rhodes match without blood. Other than the first time when Cody got three of the turn buckles, it's been QT being the one slapping the turnbuckles and Cody stopping him on the fourth. In the end, Cody hits QT hits three Cross Roads on QT and is able to get the four turnbuckles and the win.
Your winner: Cody
Lots of time for them to whip each other, and a few different ways for QT to get three and Cody to stop him, but the Factory has become another group of losers who can't ever get one up on Cody.
The announcers go down the card. They then show the end of the match between MJF and Sammy Guevara, and we go to an interview with Shawn Spears where he says Sammy's ego was his hindrance, and Sammy tosses a chair at him and says it is far from over.
After our first commercial, Tony Schiavone interviews Kenny Omega with Don Callis. Don doesn't let Tony get a question out as Don gets interrupted by the crowd chanting that Don got Fired. He says real men don't quit, they get fired. He then goes down all of the people that Kenny has defeated as AEW champion. He then says he and Kenny have a problem, They have beaten everyone.
The crowd chants that they want Hangman and Evil Uno and the Dark Order come out. Uno asks why Kenny is ignoring the crowd, the top ranked wrestler and why is he so afraid of his friend. Kenny asks Uno what the capital of Thailand is and kicks Uno in the nether regions. It's time for a brawl between the Dark Order, and the Good Brothers.
Adam Page shows up to drive off the Good Brothers and Kenny is left alone in the ring. Kenny and Page come face to face. Kenny grabs his title and bails leaving Page in the ring.
We go to a pre-taped sit down with JR, Darby Allin and Ethan Page. He says it's sad that they each want to end the other's career. Allin says that he was in the same place after one year that it took Page twelve to get to. Allin says he dropped everything and Page was complement. Page says he brought Allin into AEW and he owes his career to him. Now, he has to watch this kid who would be nothing without him.
Back in the arena, it's time for the Inner Circle vs The Pinnacle match for this week. Will the Pinnacle be able to win after so many losses?
Santana, Ortiz, and Jake Hager with Konnan vs FTR and Wardlow with Tully Blanchard
These are two teams who have gone on and on about how much they hate each other so they....have a wrestling match. They start to brawl as we go to commercial and things come back under control on the small screen. It's a good, solid tag team match where it's set up as a 50/50 match, but the announcers say that it's a WAR, and it's really not.
Wardlow and Hager throwing hands in the ring had the exited, but it didn't last long enough. Tully gets on the apron to distract the ref and FTR hits the Big Rig on Hager and Wardlow is able to cover for the three count.
Your winners: The Pinnacle
Afterwards Konnan comes in with the madball and hits Wardlow to no effect. Tully then hits Konnan with a chop block. The Pinnacle leaves in triumph.
We then get a video package of Karl Anderson getting ready to meet Jon Moxley for the IGWP title next week.
Next out if MJF on his own. For a standoff between him and Jericho as we go to commercial...
When we come back it's time the Miami Fan Chorus to sing along with Jericho. We have a table and chairs set up in the ring for them to chat.
It looks like someone from the crowd rushed the ring, and the camera cuts to the crowd. MJF says any other fat fan can come get a beating. He then runs down Jericho. Jericho says he should have let the fan beat MJF's ass, but he won't back down and accept any of MJF's stipulations. Jericho says he will even have sex with his mother.
Again.
MJF reiterates that he follows Jericho and used to be a fan. MJF says that he remembers when he made Jon Moxley face everyone in the Inner Circle to get a match with him. He then says that he is a fan of Greek Mythology and he will have five labors, four matches with opponents of his choosing and then MJF will face him.
Jericho says if he can't win, maybe he shouldn't be in AEW anymore and he accepts the challenge. MJF says a deal isn't done until both parties shake hands. Jericho shakes him hand, but doesn't let go, and then he nails MJF with a Judas Effect.
Great segment, both guys had lots of emotion and just a note that Jericho's band is touring Europe this fall....
By The Way, was anyone asking for a Space Jam Sequel after 25 years?
We get a replay of Nyla Rose putting Britt Baker through a table last week. We then go to a pre-tape with Tony and Baker and Reba, who has her crutches again. Baker says that Tony Khan should feel bad that Reba got injured in unsafe working conditions. And she almost died, but now they have Andrade which wasn't worth it. She says they call Dallas the big D, but when she wins there, it will be the big DMD.
Matt Sydal vs. Andrade El Idolo
Andrade wears a tearaway suit and a black mask that he removes when he gets to the ring. He comes to the ring with Vickie Guerrero and an assistant.
Matt starts with an advantage but after he gets knocked off the turnbuckle. Andrade goes off and lands feet first after a flip, and while Matt rolled out fo the way, Andrade flips again and lands on him. Nice move that I don't know if I have seen before. They brawl outside the ring as we go picture in picture. Andrade has control on the small screen.
This is a TERRIBLE idea. It's his first AEW match and if you want to showcase him, this stuff should be full screen, letting people see him as dominating. Matt gets his comeback and gets in a series of kicks and a near fall with a crucifix. Andrade hits a lariat that flips Matt, but when he goes to the top, Matt is able to meet him on the top. Matt then hits a Meteora, and gets ANOTHER near fall. Andrade then gets his finisher, which he calls El Idolo, and the pin.
Your Winner: Andrade
Andrade locks in an arm bar on Matt after the match, and it was far too even a match to make Andrade seem like a HUGE star.
We then get a video package about the feud between Christina Cage and Matt Hardy. Cage's promo is one of the best he's done.
Tony is now in the ring with Arn Anderson. He says with Cody's win and his son's win life is good for Arn. Arn then gives a bit of a rah rah speech but the lights go out and the Former Aleister Black is there in a three piece black suit, and he drops Arn. Cody faces off with him and he drops Cody with a kick and we are told he is Malakai Black.
And with that, he has done more than the Factory ever did.
Plus, is it just me, or does everyone look happier to be in AEW than WWE?
We then have a pre-tape with Ricky Starks with security to keep Brian Cage from attacking him since he's not medically cleared yet. Taz tells him he doesn't need security. Starks says he has to do what he has to do. He then says where he's from the W stands for wife and it's what he will do to his wife. Brian Cage then comes to the ring and takes out Starks security.
Oddly edited segment, really disjointed and hard to follow.
Bunny and Blade vs Kris Statlander and Orange Cassidy
The ref searches Blade and finds his brass knuckles. Cassidy does to light kicks bit before the bell with the Bunny and once the bell rings, Cassidy does the flips with hands in pockets with Blade. Then, we get Statlander and Bunny in the ring, and Statlander is always surprisingly strong as she uses a lot fo power moves in the match. We to go picture in picture AGAIN and it's become annoying how often they are doing that tonight. Bunny is in control through the small screen time.
When we get back, Statlander is back in control which doesn't last. Blade pulls Cassidy off the apron and tosses him into the barricade, and then Bunny tags him in, as they are hoping to get a count out victory. No chance because Cassidy comes in to get his crowd pop. As the match continues, Blade is given brass knuckles by Bunny and Cassidy is popped with them.
Cassidy is close enough to the corner that she makes the tag. Blade doesn't realize it and tries to stand on Cassidy for the three count, and the ref says Bunny needs to come in, and Bunny takes the Big Bang Theory.
Your winners” Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander
We get a pre-tape of Jungle Boy getting a trophy for being the first to get 50 wins, and there's no audio so again, he gets out of doing a promo.
Tony goes to interview America's Top Team, which is a famous MMA gym. The leader of the group, Dan Lambert, cuts a promo that AEW sucks. He talks about how much he liked Championship Wrestling from Florida but modern wrestling is unwatchable. He then turns it around by explaining how Tony Kahn talked him into coming, but he ends by saying the show sucks. Lance Archer then drops him and gives him the black out.
If I followed MMA, I would have gotten more out of it, but it was a good old school sequence to give the crowd a reason to boo and then cheer.
We get a rundown of the card for next week, Fyter Fest week one.
The Young Bucks (AEW Tag Team Champions) vs Eddie Kingston and Penta in a Streetfight
The Bucks have removed the mustaches but are wearing Jorts, while earlier in the show, Kenny Omega still has Lemmy's old facial hair. The Bucks' dancing to the ring is obnoxious and annoying so when Eddie and Penta attack them the second the bell rings, the crowd popped.
Eddie came to the ring wearing a Funk U shirt which made me happy.
As Penta leaps onto a chair held on Nick's nether regions, Don says that Nick may have had an involuntary vasectomy, which JR says is the worst kind.
We get garbage can spots, table spots, streamer spots, a Canadian Destroyer into a table at ringside, picture in picture and Michael Nakazawa getting superkicked by the Bucks on accident.
Eddie is the guy taking most of the punishment, Penta is putting in most of the high end offense and the Bucks are doing Young Bucks stuff. Oh, and Matt hit a 450 splash on the ref. The Good Brothers show up and attack, so Frankie Kazarian should be showing at some pint.
There he is, showing up when Brandon Cutler sets up for the cold spray, and he gets up through a table.
Nick gets pinned but there's no ref and when one comes from the back, Matt pulls them out of the ring on the two count. Eddie bring in thumb tacks and Frankie gets taken out by the Good Brothers. After more brawling, the Bucks take out Eddie, after putting thumb tacks in his mouth and then hitting him with a Super Kick and a pin.
Your winners and still champions: The Young Bucks.
