ARIK ROYAL VS. LOGAN CREED & MORE: 6/5 ACTION WRESTLING 'GAME OVER' REPORT FROM TYRONE, GA

By Adam Cardoza on 2021-07-07 19:30:00

ACTION Wrestling “Game Over”

6/25/21 - Tyrone, GA

Now Available on IWTV

Action is foregoing their usual double header and doing ONE BIG SHOW for June. And for good reason too…this is their welcome back show with a full crowd! Time to see what the Tyrone crowd will do after over a year away from a normal wrestling show. And we have a heck of card for this one…headlined by the very large and VERY over Logan Creed making his first bid to topple ACTION’s kingpin, the ACEGAWD Arik Royal. Johnny Mosely is taking commentary solo tonight. Scott Hensley is your announcer and backing up Mosely at the desk. ACTION has a fresh new canvas for the show today and a new opening video. It all looks great!

Match 1: The Bitcoin Boiz (Eric Taylor & Mikey Montgomery) vs No Mas (King Garuda & Takuri)

No Mas has been finding their way into the hearts of Tyrone in previous months. Montgomery is on the losing end of a big chest chop after a fast paced opening sequence. Garuda (in Batman gear) tries to capitalize but the Bitcoin Boiz start using some questionable tactics to ground him in the corner and aware from Takuri. Crowd trying to hype up Garuda and he rolls through to the tag. Takuri with a double drop kick and a falcon arrow to Mikey for a near fall. No Mas dives to the outside and introduces the Boiz to the front row. Garuda with a pele kick and release fisherman’s suplex. Garuda with slams Mikey onto Taylor but its not enough to pull the rug on the bitcoin boiz ambitions here. Garuda trying to do it all himself and the numbers game catches up. BB with a gory bomb onto the knees. Close two, Takuri is to save. Taylor pops off of Mikey’s shoulders to hit a high angle ddt to Takuri. Taylor whiffs a popup blockbuster, Garuda spikes Mikey with a cutter. Double underhook slam from Garuda and Takuri tags in with a frog splash for the pin.

Winners: No Mas

Decent opener but this was not the best showing I’ve seen from either team. Something just didn’t entirely click between these tandems in certain places and a few spots (particularly towards the finish) felt a little rougher than you’d want. If it was “full crowd jitters”, it probably didn’t matter as the audience was definitely there and behind No Mas all the way.

ACTION CEO Matt Griffin is out and he’s holding a mysterious black bag??? What could it be??? Matt pulls out a pair of brand new ACTION tag team championship belts and announces the tournament to decide the first champions will begin in August!

Match 2: “The Poisoned Youth” Robert Martyr vs Brogan Finlay

Scott Hensley announces that the winner of this contest will become the 9th and final entrant in the Action Futures Showcase tournament! Both Martyr and Finlay have been raising their profiles over the last couple of months so this has a lot of potential. Martyr is shooting hard but Brogan uses his size advantage to maintain control in the graps. Martyr finally gets a cravat and blasts a knee to the face and drags Finaly down for a pin attempt. This annoys the Irishman and we get into a brief slugfest before he wraps up Robert and clubs him into the corner. They take their fight to the outside, trading shots until Brogan crashes Martyr into the post. Brogan tries to keep Martyr to the outside but it allows Robert time to recover, get the legs of Finlay and crash his knees into the post. Back in the ring, Martyr works over the knee, keeping Brogan down and wrenching at the limb at every opportunity. Brogan fires back but he’s limping through his attacks. Martyr catches Brogan on the top, pulls him off, sinks in a single leg crab but he can’t hold it. He clovers up Finlay’s legs and sits on his head until Finlay is forced to tap out!

Winner: Robert Martyr

Good energy here. Brogan came in confident in his technical skills but he found Martyr unwilling to roll over. Martyr played the long game here and took his larger opponent down once he found his target. Brogan is still relatively new on the scene but he’s been having good showings right along. Robert Martyr is going to be a favorite in the Action Futures Tournament, for sure. This was a lot of fun. Martyr takes exception to Brogan recovering in the ring while he celebrates his win and kicks him off the apron.

Match 3: “Kill or Be Killed” Brett Ison vs Noah Hossman

I’ve seen Hossman on the first two episodes of Action’s “Next Up” and I like him…but this is certainly one hell of a scary step up in competition for this kid. Leet’s see if he can hang? Hossman charges Ison at the bell and sends him right to the floor…..Ison with some chops but Noah gets him to chop the post early. Hossman taking the fight right to Ison and working over the hand and arm, landing some big shots. Ison still making space with chops but Hossman lands a gutwrench suplex for two! Hossman makes an error and plays to the crowd after a series of taunting slaps to the back of the head. Ison wakes up to throw hands with Hossman….Noah clocks him and Ison buckles to one knee. Noah ones running…Ison winds up and hits a roaring elbow with a back suplex for two. Ison tries to get Hossman up for Street Justice, Hossman backdrops out but Ison follows with a sunset flip pin and he gets him!

Winner: Brett Ison

Was Ison looking past Hossman? When does Brett Ison sneak away with the win against an opponent that was definitely overwhelming him through the entire match? I was surprised how much Hossman brought it to the Pitbull here and even more surprised and how quick this ended. Hossman will definitely want another crack at Killing or Being Killed. Ison might come better prepared next time. I look forward to that.

We have an interview segment with Graham Bell, who promises Alex Kane won’t suplex him, and will fold after getting “all this merc”. XD

Match 4: “The Mercenary” Graham Bell vs “The Suplex Assassin” Alex Kane

These two are head-to-head big bulls, Kane almost suplexes him at the bell but Graham is ready for it…..and walks into a roaring elbow. Kane stays on him and shakes his jaw loose with another elbow. Trading kicks, Kane tries a back suplex but Graham flips out. Bell ejects Kane from the ring and kicks him to the floor. Bell tries a body splash but almost walks into a belly to belly. Bell with more kicks and gets a two count off Kane. Alex Kane is sick of eating feet and grabs an ankle lock. Bell out to throw more kicks and chops to the suplex assassin. Kane tries a vertical suplex? Bell flips out and hits an enziguri! Kane to the outside, Bell comes after him. Kane catches him charging and plexes Bell into the post. The Suplex Assassin is in full control and, with the crowd on his side, hits a variety of suplexes on the Merc. Kane snags the ankle lock again, Bell biting his own hand to avoid tapping out. Bell flips out and runs Kane into the buckles. Bell with a F5! Backwards elbow drop from the top! Bell with some Kawada kicks but Kane snatches him and hits a blu-ray. Big pump handle suplex and a german. Kane tries a fishman’s buster but Bell drops him into a cross face and craaaaaaanks it. Kane powers out but Bell stays on him with chops and forearms to keep Alex staggering. Big corner cannonball! PK from the merc! Two count! Bell wants the heart grenade, Kane fights out and trades shots in the pocket. Bell slaps and kicks….goes for the heart grenade again…Kane with a X-plex! Kane back to his feet…gets Bell up on the top…Mark of Kane off the top rope for his 10th suplex and three count!

Winner: Alex Kane

WHAT A MATCH! I loved the early game of Bell who had every suplex scouted….until he got hit with every single one of those by the end of the match. This was a really good fight. Enjoyed it a lot.

Match 5: Orion Bishop vs Arthur McArthur

Arthur McArthur is an old-timey carnival strongman. Orion Bishop is a no-nonsense big strong man. Arthur wants to pose. Orion wants to beat this chump up. Arthur wants a test of strength? It’s a headlock! Orion powers out. Arthur uses an iron claw?!? Orion powers out and sends Arthur for a explosive ride. Orion tries to land shots on the outside but ends up punching the apron and post. Arthur targeting the hand and wrist. He tries a slam but Orion reverses into a gutwrench suplex. Orion misses a Vader bomb. Arthur tries a Hansen-style larait but it bounces off Bishop. Bishop slaps on a sleeper, he backpacks, Arthur with a stunner for two! Arthur trying to finish this off but Orion catches him and hits a sitout driver for the pin.

Winner: Orion Bishop

Arthur was a goof but he was definitely able to use his quickness to nearly secure a victory over a very grumpy Bishop. Like Ison/Hossman before, Bishop didn’t seem like he expected this level of competition from his opponent tonight. McArthur was definitely prepared for this one.

We have an interview segment where Jaden Newman refuses to reveal his plans on how he will break his losing streak in his match tonight against Canaan Man Dan. Because Jaden Newman cannot escape the humiliation of the most embarrassing defeat of 2021, Matt Sells is out here to serve as special guest ring announcer….which also gives the Tyrone crowd a chance to cheer for and high five their king on the mend. Jaden Newman is NOT HAPPY about this development. Matt Sells gives him a “proper” ring introduction.

Match 6: “Castaway” Cabana Man Dan vs “Number One” Jaden Newman

Jaden is very distracted and CMD nearly gets the pin right away. CMD with a series of near falls and arm drags before a corner spear. Matt Sells joins Mosely on commentary. Jaden manages to hotshot CMD and boot him to the floor. Newman grabs a mic and demands the ref count Dan out. CMD back in the ring but Newman is dropping stomps and throwing kicks while he berates the crowd on the mic. Big back drop as he counts his own near fall. CMD manages to jawjack Newman onto the mic, misses Shipwrecked (sliced bread) but eats a knee from Jaden. Just the presence of Matt Sells is distracting to Newman, CMD recovers and blasts aa leg lariat. Newman sends to the crowd and eats a ton of shots. Newman with a powerslam reversal. Newman grabs the mic again and CMD uses the self-distraction to hit a pop up Code Red. Jaden comes down on the mic and ropes and he’s out for the count.

Winner: Cabana Man Dan

The continued rivalry between Sells and Newman has been a great long term story for the last several months. The crowd continues to chant for Sells as Newman weakly grabs the mic to scream for the crowd to stop. CMD played a little third wheel here to the larger story but he needed this big win to really cement his newfound aggressive attitude.

Match 7: Bobby Flaco & Rob Killjoy vs Culture Inc (Eli Knight & Malik Bosede)

If ACTION is going to have a brand new tag team championship, we need have some tag teams in the mix. Killjoy comes strutting in and works some early chains with Knight, speeding up into a stereo counters and a full-on stalemate. Knight finally gets the big dropkick, tags to Malik. Killjoy eats a double stomp to the back but dodges a split leg moonsault. 420 legdrop from Flaco & Killjoy to Malik before working some corner stomps. Flaco tries a spring board old school type move but Knight cuts it off and Flaco falls from the top. Culture Inc goes to work and keeps Flaco grounded and beat down briefly but Killjoy gets in to clean house, good springboard dive combo into a running powerbomb on Malik. Killjoy may have burned the tank out on that flurry as he needs a tag out. Flaco gets dropped and Killjoy eats a double stomp/DVD combo….Kick out! Flaco flies in with a double sling blade, springboard Xfactor and spinning DDT for two. Double pumpkick to Knight, who eats a spike DDT and neckbreaker but Malik cuts it off. Flaco catches a recovering Culture Inc on the outside with a dive.Killjoylooks to finish off Knight with a double stomp but gets caught and rolled up for the three!

Winners: Culture Inc.

A couple of miscommunications here almost derailed the match but these teams kept things going. I liked the continued storyline of Flaco and Killjoy, not QUITE being on the same page, which allowed Culture Inc to slip in with the upset win here. Flaco gives his opponents fist bumps of respect post-match but leaves his partner hanging to show his disappointment.

We get an interview with the challenger for the ACTION Champions, Logan Creed. He’s ready to take the title and open all the doors that were promised to him.

Match 8: Damyan Tangra vs “Brain Dead” Kevin Ryan

The leader of the Good Hand, Suge D, has been banned from the building tonight, leaving Kevin Ryan to go it alone tonight against Tangra. Referee Shiny Shoes is here, having been on the receiving end of the beating that suspended Suge in the first place. Damyan has been on a tear this year in ACTION so I’m really looking forward to this one. Ryan shows a little disrespect early and Tangra quickly rolls him around the ring. Ryan powders but Tangra dives after. Damyan is in Ryan’s world now and eats a moonsault off the second before getting rammed into the post and beaten down on the apron. The crowd here in Tyrone sure does hate Kevin Ryan. Tangra fighting back with one arm, Ryan traps his remaining good hand in the top turns buckle and beats on it. Tangra with a quick STF but Ryan is able to work those damaged hands to escape. Battle to the top, Ryan hits a cutter off these to the apron. It’s not enough to put Tangra down and Ryan tries a deep arm bar. Tangra rolls to the ropes and slaps on that STF again. Ryan out but falls into a gut buster. Ryan dodges and tries a moonsault off the buckle but Tangra with a one arm cutter. Big kicks swinging from both! Ryan with a Spanish fly. Ryan comes running, tripped back into the STF! This was a really cool spot. It’s deep! Music hits…is Suge here??? Tangra looks up confused, allowing Ryan to slip out and roll up him up for the three.

Winner: Kevin Ryan

I realllllllllly liked this one. Previous Kevin Ryan matches put him on the receiving end of some stiff beat downs. His alliance with Suge D certainly gave him some schooling but this was really his breakout performance, coming in confident and staying on top of a superior technician. Sure he needed the cheap finish, but he wasn’t on the back pedal for this one.  Ryan grabs the mic and makes sure to rub it in the salt to Tangra and the crowd. He even goes so far as to invite Tangra and a partner of his choosing back next month when Suge is allowed in the building again for a tag match.

Match 9: Adam Priest vs AC Mack

A grudge match after Priest’s post-match attack at “To the Moon”. He may have a cast on but Priest is officially returned from injury and looks to get right back under Mack’s skin, taking his self-announcer intro spot away and even AC’s moniker. Mack doesn’t wait for the music or the bell and comes in running to beat down Priest. Mack is over zealous and Priest catches him in the corner and goes to work with stomps. Mack tries to knee out of danger but Priest has an even bigger one for AC’s gut. Priest gets Mack to the top…but gets dropped down. Priest with a spinarooni? Mack catches him off the top and delivers a better spinarooni. AC is grinning while he stalks and attacks Mack. Big leg lariat! He wants the Mack 10, Priest back drops out but punches the mat with his bad hand. Priest manages to slap on a sharpshooter but his hand can’t hold it. Mack firing back, goes for Mack 10 again. Priest shoves him back but the ref gets crashed into the buckles. Priest with a low blow and smashes Mack in the head with the cast. AC crumbles and the ref counts down that three.

Winner: Adam Priest

This was a chapter in a longer story. Some fun action between these two but they held back a bit for the bigger payoff in a bigger matchup. A wounded Priest getting the win here is definitely an upset, even if an arm cast in wrestling is like a +9000 sword of demon slaying. I very much look forward to what they do next. Both of these guys have claims to a shot at the ACTION Championship eventually so it make sense they stay in each other’s orbit for the time being.

Main Event: “The ACEGAWD” Arik Royal(c) vs “The Heathen” Logan Creed (for the ACTION Championship)

Creed in first and the crowd has the big man’s back though I will always pop for this Arik Royal entrance. Creed had his upper leg wrapped up and that’s sure to be a target. Royal poking his finger into Creed’s chest and the challenger drops down into an arm triangle! Royal back up and Creed hits SCORCHED EARTH (full-Nelson Facebuster)! Is it Game Over so quick?!? The champ kicks out! Almost a huge flash upset. Royal clothelines Creed over the top but is shocked when the big man lands on his feet. Creed chasing the champ down with strikes and knees on the floor. Royal back in and tries to get something started but walks into a big boot. Creed devours a kick to the face and chokeslams the ACCEGAWD. Royal dodges a kick off the apron, trapping Creed’s injured leg in the ropes and beats the hellllllllll out of that bandaged area while he can. The tide has turned on the challenger as the champ targets that leg, leaving him barely able to stand without the ropes. Creed is sufficiently slowed down and Royal is able to reverse and fire back. Big back suplex and a two count for the champ. Royal rips off the bandages and locks in a figure four on Creed while he taunts the ringside crowd. Creed’s in deep, Royal using the ropes for leverage….Creed flips the hold! Royal gets free but they are both damaged goods in the leg department now. Both guys trading big punches, Logan hits a choke breaker but he damn near takes his own leg off to do it! Royal wants another figure four but Creed shoves I’m off and the ref gets run into the buckle and he’s out! Creed with a lariat. Replacement referee is here but Creed dodges and lets him get hit with Royal’s finish, the Kobe. Are we out of refs??? Both guys are furious. They get some speed and hit a double cross body. Double down. Matt Sells is back out! He has a ref shirt! Both guys struggle to their feet, Royal tackles the knee. Creed is down for the count. Sells counts the one, two th—. Sells says the shoulder is up (it definitely was NOT) or maybe it was his own shoulder acting up? Either way, he didn’t make the count and the ACEGAWD is furious. He gets completely distracted and into a baseball-style argument with Sells and back up into Creed who hits the Scorched Earth again….Royal is down for the count! Jaden Newman pulls Sells out of the ring just before the three count lands and laughs in the Boozerweight’s face. Jaden backs off of Sells but walks into a Creed chokeslam. Ref Shiny Shoes has woken up and calls for the bell when he sees the mess in the ring.

Winner: NO CONTEST

The crowd wants a restart but this one is over….which is a shame since this was going great until we got around to killing all the refs. Creed will definitely want another shot for the strap in the near future and is surprisingly OKAY with Matt Sells /Jaden Newman kind of costing him his shot here. The King of Tyrone, Matt Sells grabs the mic and says him and Creed will be taking on Royal and Newman next month before doing a Mega Powers handshake with the Heathen to close this show out!

And that’s “Game Over” for this month’s ACTION show! A theme I pulled from this show was “Unexpected Preparation”. From Hossman/Ison to Bishop/McArthur to Bell/Kane to Culture Inc’s shock win over Rob-n-Bob, a lot of folks gave performances that showed they WATCH WRESTLING and were prepared for the opponent they had in front of them tonight. Priest and Mack had a good sprint that previewed a longer program and I really enjoyed how Royal had to work really hard to pick apart his giant challenger. Mostly, we set a lot of interesting programs in motion here and Arik Royal certainly has a lot of people making their case for their own shot at the ACTION Championship. It was great to see the Tyrone crowd in full force tonight and the workers were clearly glad to see the (evidences by the hugs, high fives and general taunting). Great energy through the show, there were some hiccups in places but I think the energy of the room really carried through everything. Shout out to Johnny Mosely, who carried the majority of the show from the commentary table tonight. Check this show out on IWTV! Your matches to watch are 100% Tangra/Ryan and Bell/Kane. A new episode of “Next Up” was also taped before this show so I’ll be writing that up as soon as it hits IWTV. ACTION will allllllso be representing in the upcoming Scenic City Invitational and Action Futures Tournaments in early August. The lineup looks awesome! Until then!
