PWInsider.com is saddened to report that longtime referee Mac McMurray passed away earlier this afternoon. There is no word on a cause of death but the early belief is that MacMurray suffered a heart attack. He was found in his garage by his wife earlier this afternoon, according to Florida historian Barry Rose.
MacMurray entered the business through a friendship with legendary Knoxville wrestler and promoter Ron Fuller. MacMurray was Fuller's right hand man in the old Knoxville, TN territory, eventually becoming 10% owner of the area when Southeastern Championship Wrestling was created.
On screen, McMurray officiated in a number of areas beyond Knoxville, including Georgia, Charlotte and towards the latter part of his career, would officiate on WWF events in the Sunshine State of Florida. He refereed from October 1986 on through his retirement.
PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mac McMurray.
