Over the weekend, I sat down with Danielle Kamela aka the former Vanessa Borne in WWE NXT for a 75-minute discussion about her time in WWE, her post-WWE plans, her journey leading to professional wrestling and being released several weeks ago.

One of the topics of discussion was Kamela's post-release video message to WWE and WWE fans (embedded above). On her decision to make the video and what her intentions were releasing it, Kamela commented:
"Well, after I got the news that I was being released, I kind of took an hour or two just to digest that information and obviously had a variety of different emotions and I'm getting like all of these tweets from fans and different people, people wanting me to kind of confirm it, people texting me. So, I just kind of wanted something that was fun and light that I could put out there that confirmed that I was released and thank the fans. I thought, you know, maybe I could put out some long sappy statement, you know, but that's just not me. That's not it. That wasn't Vanessa Borne and it's not Danielle Kamela.
So I kind of just wanted to have fun with it. And I just sat down, recorded it and I was like, okay, I'm just going to put this out there. Some people might take it the wrong way, but if you've followed Vanessa Borne, you would know on Twitter, she tends to jab at people and poke back at people. So, I just sent the tweet and that was that, I guess the reactions from people, some people did take it the wrong way. They thought that I was being bitter or, you know, angry, but that wasn't it at all. It was very light and it was in good humor."
On the topic of her future, Kamela, who had been with WWE for six years after taking part in a Tough Enough audition, commented:
"Outside of wrestling, my passions are acting, my passions are on-air hosting television. That's what my background is. So now that I do not have any contractual obligations, well, pretty soon here. I'm going to start pursuing that again as well. Like that's so much fun for me. That's always been fun for me, anything with storytelling. So definitely get back into acting. I had an opportunity last year to do something that would have been really cool and it would have had a good amount of money, but I wasn't able to do it, you know, with my contract. So things like that come along and, you know, it kind of sucks. You kind of feel like, oh man, I wish I would be able to do that.
Now I kind of have that opportunity to do anything that comes my way. So the potential is that is very exciting to me.
It's very exhilarating. And I feel like because I've been under this contract for so long, but also not working, I've been very unfulfilled creatively. So now that I'm not with the company, although like, you know, I'm sad about it and it's unfortunate. It also feels like a weight has kind of been lifted off of my shoulder and like all of these doors are open. So I'm just definitely excited to kind of see what else is out there and what else I can do and actually use the skills and talent I have, you know, I like working, like I love working and, um, you know, I'm lucky that I was able to kind of sit back and like collect a check. Like that's great, but that's not fulfilling for me. So I want to get back into it."
Many talents have departed WWE and then made it their goal to find their way back, as Drew McIntyre was able to successfully. When asked if pushing for a return to WWE is on the immediate goal list, Kamela is not looking towards that as her immediate goal, as she's never experienced professional wrestling beyond the WWE bubble.
"I guess for me, I want to see what else is out there at the moment. So I did just get released, but my immediate thought isn't like, 'Okay, I need to do whatever I can to get back there.' My thought is I need to do what I can do to use my talents and to be fulfilled. That is what I need to do for me. I don't think having the immediate mindset of, okay, I need to figure out exactly what I can do to get right back to WWE. I don't think that would be healthy for me at this time. So I want to explore, and I want to be able to take on other projects if I have the opportunity and if I want to. It's nice to actually be able to have full control of what I do at this point forward. So I guess that's where I am with that. I don't have any like bad feelings or negativity towards WWE at all. Like I had a great time there. So everything is all Gucci, but that's where I'm at with moving forward.
On whether there are other promotions Borne has had her eye on and saw as a potential goal, Kamela commented:
I've watched a little bit of everything else and there's a lot of talent out there that are just phenomenal that I watch. They come from all different organizations. So there's not one organization where I'm like, okay, like this is the only one I would consider going to. I would like to consider all my options and find the best fit for me and find the best organization that I like as a whole, when it comes to the culture and it comes to, you know, how you treat your talent, all of that. So those are all things I definitely would take into consideration. What I can say is there's a lot of good things about a lot of other organizations and I think that's why a lot of talent today don't see getting released from WWE as the end of the world, because there is so much other great wrestling out there. That's encouraging, especially if I do want to consider or if I am considering continuing my wrestling career.
