AEW DYNAMITE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2021-06-12 00:00:00

It’s Friday night, the movie on TNT is over and it’s time for AEW Dynamite, counting down the last few shows at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville Florida, and our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.

We are back to the old set up with two entryways and a stage, as the only crowd are the Dark wrestlers at ringside.

We start with the Pinnacle arriving in their limo, but we go right to the ring for Big Money Matt Hardy calling out Christina Cage and he will have Angelico beat him. He also throws in a Tiger King reference saying Cage will never financially recover from this.  Short, sweet and gives the match some motivation at least.

Christian Cage vs Angelico

The match starts with them trading holds, and Angelico is cocky and keeps inviting Cage to trade holds. After a brief flurry by Cage, Angelico works over an arm and the announcers let us know that Matt is paying Angelico to permanently injure Cage. Normally, AEW starts up with a high octane match that goes at 100 mph, but this is a slower, more methodically paced match with Cage able to catch Angelico and hit the Killswitch while glaring at Matt Hardy.  Again, it felt like a showcase for Cage to show his move set and set up for the feud between him and Hardy, rather than Angelico having a chance to win.

Your winner: Christian Cage

After the match, Jack Evans and Matt Hardy come in to attack because it’s AEW and post match beat downs are what they do. Jack takes the Cage attack while Hardy is able to come in and hit a Twist of Fate. When Hardy sets up for another move, Jungle Boy comes out to make the save.

No crowd shots because it’s a taped show, and we get a rundown of the card for the night.

They push the upcoming live shows as they come out of the first commercials.  Tony Schiavone is in the ring and lets us know that next week, QT Marshall and Aaron Solow will take on Cody Rhodes and in his debut Brock…

..Anderson, the son of Arn Anderson.  I heard that pause, Tony.

Cody, Arn, and Brock come to the ring for their interview. Brock looks a lot like Arn, but he comes to the ring in a polo shirt and shorts with flip flops and looks less than intimidating, especially next to Cody in a three piece suit.  They put over that Brock has been training with Cody, and Cody says that while their fathers set a high bar, and he thinks they can meet it.

As Cody starts to talk about how match last week where he was beat by Anthony Ogogo, and this causes QT Marshall to come out and say HE beat Cody in the middle of the ring.  QT says that Cody has been overlooking the other people int he factory, and when they go on the road on July 7th, he wants a full house so people can see him beat Cody’s ass in a South Beach Strap Match.

Cody and QT take off their belts, and QT attacks Arn. The refs hold Brock back as we go to .the issues between Death Triangle and the Young Bucks and how Eddie Kingston got involved.  Eddie has a backstage promo explaining that the enemy of his enemy is his friend as they come to the ring. Not much, but it sets the stage for the match. Penta and Eddie are getting along, but Pac, not so much.

The Bucks come out with Don Callis who joins commentary.

Pac, Penta and Eddie Kingston vs The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler

Nick has dyed his hair red, so it will be easier to tell them apart.  Matt oversells like a champ and they force in Cutler when Matt is ready to tag out, so the story is that Cutler, still with a face guard, if going to take the beating in this match. Don lets us know that Cutler isn’t being paid in anything but experience, which is a nice heel touch.

Pac refuses to tag in Eddie when it’s time to tag.  When Eddie does tag in, he spends his time watching the Bucks when working on Cutler, which is a great move, reminding us that he does not trust them at all.  Pac tags in an tosses Cutler’s lifeless body to the Bucks, and when they tag in, Pac is able to mock them until the Bucks take control.

Eddie tosses a chair into the ring as we go to commercial, but it’s OK, Rick Knox is the ref, so he just tosses it out of the ring as Pac gets his beat down on the small screen.  Pac gets his chance to tag after tossing Matt who was trying for a swinging DDT.  I liked that move.  Penta was not on the apron, so Eddie got the tag from a reluctant Pac.

Cutler takes some moves from the Bucks and Penta outsmarts them, it’s stupid, but I like that sort of humor. The last third of the match has NO tags as Rick Knox watches. The wrap the “Pac doesn't’ trust Eddie” with them hitting side by side Topes.  Eddie nail Cutler and Pac covers him for the win.

Your winners:  Pac, Penta, and Eddie Kingston

The Good Brothers show up for the post match beat down. Frankie Kazarian shows up to help drive them off.  Cutler is left in the ring, so Kaz nails him with a clothesline as the Bucks and Good Brothers complain outside the ring.

It's now time for the movie the Don Callis says will prove the conspiracy against Kenny Omega, and as it starts, we are shown it's directed by Michael Kurosawa. I think that joke is just for those of us who love Kurosawa films, but I like it. The film itself just shows bits from the match with subtitles claiming that the ref was saying he hates Kenny and wants him to lose the belt.

After commercials, it's Pinnacle Time, and Dax Hardwood starts by saying Stadium Stampede didn't go how they wanted it, but that's not their kind of match anyway. They are like Santana and Ortiz as they came from nothing, But Santana and Ortiz lost their edge. Cash says he doesn't have a family and he doesn't care about their family. Sean Spears goes after Sammy and says he got lucky.

Tully stops him and lets Wardlow speak and he goes after Jake Hager saying he is obsessed with him. If Jake wants to keep it going, he's fine with it. He says it doesn't matter where they fight, he is always in Wardlow's world.

MJF says he is tired of being told he has something to prove when he is already the best. He says he loved Jericho when he was growing up. He cuts a great heel promo that he's not going to face Jericho again, and he he also says Sammy isn't worth being in the same ring as him.

Jericho is outside the arena with a bat. He says that they can keep praising themselves as they are walking home, and the Inner Circle starts smashing the Pinnacle's limo. Will the Pinnacle ever get one up on the Inner Circle again?

They stand in the ring and complain as Hager gets a forklift and rams the limo. The Inner Circle ride off on the forklift and the Pinnacle keeps watching.

Darby and his daddy Sting respond to the challenge of Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page by saying he won't get a partner, he wants it to be a handicap match and he tells Sting to stay home. Darby says he wants to prove to both of them that he doesn't need Sting. Sting says Darby doesn't need him as he was champion before he arrive. Sting then says he will stay home.

We now get a video package of the connection between Evil Uno and Brodie Lee, and why he wants to win the TNT championship.

Miro (TNT Champion) vs Evil Uno

Uno and Miro are about the same size, but Miro is much more muscular, so the idea of the match is two big guys beating the tar out of each other. Miro is able to out power him and Uno has to try to outsmart him, and gets in a surprise move here and there. Uno keeps trying, and Miro is able to just destroy him at will. This match is a great showcase for the new Miro who has gotten rid of all of the goofiness and is now a man who breaks you down and then puts you out bit by bit, attack by attack.

After Uno takes a move into the barricade, two members of the Dark Order come out to give him verbal and moral support. Miro is able to take out Stu Grayson, and chases off Allen Angles. Miro takes off the top turnbuckle, and Uno gets a flurry of offense. The rest of Dark Order come to the stage and Miro rolls Uno up, but gets shot into the exposed turnbuckle.

Uno gets a two count goes for the discus lariat,m and Miro takes it without flinching and Miro is able to lock in the Game Over.

Your winner and still TNT Champion: Miro

Great showcase for Miro, and it gave Uno some hope spots above and beyond what was expected.

We then get a video package about Andrade putting over his wealth with suits and place and the like.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring to speak to Kenny Omega and Don Callis. Kenny comes out with ONLY the AEW belt. Tony says that the video showing Jungle Boy being a part of a conspiracy, and Don cuts him off. Don says it was a con job to take the belt off of Kenny. He tells JB he did a great job, but just like Baltimora, he's a one hit wonder. Kenny says he is supposed to sell the match with JB, but he can't say anything bad about JB. JB has a little bit of Kenny Omega, and one day he may be a champion, but he's missing something.

Don says that JB is missing the guts to get in the ring, and he is interrupted by Tarzan Boy by Baltimora JB comes to the ring, alone. Kenny says JB hasn't been a promo guy, but he has something to say, but he knows he doesn't have the guts,. Kenny gives JB 5 seconds to say something.

JB says “You talk way too much.”

Kenny attacks and JB is able to fight back. They fight, and JB puts Omega in the snare trap, and the Young Bucks come out to chase JB off.

I liked the segment, and it keeps up the characterization that Kenny THINKS he's the best, but has people who watch his back and take care of things for him if he recognizes it or not.

In the back, Jade Cargill and Smart Mark Sterling, and he says her marketing revenues are up. He tells her to use her catch phrase because they get residuals every time it is used, so she does. Short, heelish, but not much else.

Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page are in the back and Sky says that for Darby Allin to face them alone is one of the stupidest things they've ever seen. Pager says it's only up from here for the men of the year. I agree, the only place for them to go is up after the last few weeks.

Lance Archer vs Chandler Hopkins

Well, that was over fast.

Your winner: Lance Archer

In the back, a group calling themselves the Ringman Makeover Specialists challenge Orange Cassidy. I recognize Peter Avalon, but the rest are guys from Dark that the announcers doesn't seem to give enough of a damn about to introduce or explain. And quite frankly, the spot was so short, I don't think I should do their work for them to research who the group is.

Nyla Rose vs Leyla Hirsch

Vickie Guerrero, who is Rose's manager, leaves a platform for Hirsch to mock her size and Hirsch hurls it into the ring when coming out. With Layla so much smaller than Rose, the story of the match is that Leyla is trying to hit quick and put Rose in submission holds, and Rose being able to power her way out of it and then decimate Layla. Layla has to take the small screen beat down, and Rose cheats even with the size difference.

After a break when the match goes big screen, Leyla is getting in some offense, and her moves look amazing with the strength she has to have to pull them off. Rose is able to get an avalanche beast bomb from the top turnbuckle after Leyla tries for a Hurrancanrana and covers for the pin.

Your Winner: Nyla Rose

In the back, in a stairwell, Tony is with Britt Baker and Reba, not Rebel. Baker says she was mad about Rose ruining her celebration, but now she thinks Rose looked so good flipping burgers, she should do that. Baker cuts a nice promo about how Rose needs the title to make her, but Baker makes the title.

We get a rundown of next week's card, and I guess the group Orange Cassidy will be taking on are the Wingmen.

It's time for the main event, and Taz joins the commentators (get well quick, Captain Orange!). Adam Page's note this week is that he has lost all sense of time.

Brian Cage and Powerhouse Hobbs vs 10 from the Dark Order and Adam Page

Page and Cage start in a Rage and...yeah, I'm tired of that bit already, but they go at it stiff to start the match. Once 10 tags in, the story becomes that Team Taz is able to keep him from his corner and work him over. Oddly, 10 has trouble making his runs to the ropes look as smooth as he should, sometimes because the ref is in the way and sometimes because he has to change directions after being whipped to the ropes. 10 gets the beat down during the small screen.

Ricky Starks and Hook come out to the ring on the small screen as well. When Brian Cage throws a drop kick, it always looks amazing, even if it is on a small screen. They should have waited until full screen for that. ON the big screen, Page is knocked off the apron and 10's comeback gets some extra time before Page is tagged in.

Page is able to reverse the spot they used where Cage rammed him into the turnbuckle after catching Page from a Tope, which was a cool callback. Page gets in some solid offense while still putting over the Hobbs and Cage are bigger than he is so it feels like he's fighting from underneath. Cage is able to get a 619, but he didn't have enough momentum to make it look impressive. If he can speed that move up, it will be amazing.

Once again, Team Taz set up for Cage to use the FTW belt while the ref is distracted, and once he again he refuses, this time just tossing the belt out of the ring. Ricky Starks gets in Cage's face and slaps him, and Cage chases him into the back. Hobbs ALMOST gets a pin on 10, but Page breaks it up. Instead, Page hits the Buckshot on Hobbs and 10 covers him for the win.

Your winners: Adam Page and 10
