MICKIE JAMES JOINS NWA, NEXT TWO PPVS ANNOUNCED INCLUDING FIRST-EVER ALL WOMEN'S PPV

By Mike Johnson on 2021-06-08 18:03:00

Tonight's edition of the National Wrestling Alliance's POWERRR on FITE.TV opened with several big announcements from NWA President Billy Corgan:

*The NWA will return to St. Louis, Missouri for four dates over the weekend of  8/28-8/31.    There will be two PPVs that weekend.

The first on Saturday 8/28 will be the first-ever all-women's PPV ever promoted by the NWA with former WWE star Mickie James taking the reins of the show as the top executive.   The show will be titled NWA In Power.

Mickie James, who accompanied Corgan for the announcements, stated this was something that she wanted to do for a long time but was "cut off at every opportunity" but now they have a "real opportunity here with real history."  She thanked Corgan for giving them a chance to show that women's wrestling makes money and deserves the same prime real estate as men's wrestling at the top of the marquee.  She wants the best women in the world, even if they are under contract somewhere, to be able to appear and compete.

The second PPV will be on Sunday 8/29 titled NWA 73, an anniversary-themed PPV held at the historic Chase Ballroom, described by Corgan as the "literal, emotional home" of the NWA.  That would be the home of the legendary Wrestling at the Chase TV series promoted by former NWA President Sam Muchnick, which ran in different forms from 1959 through 1983, when the WWF made their first foray into expanding nationally.

There will be then be TV tapings on 8/30 and 8/31.
