It's Friday, and that means it's time for AEW Dynamite, at least for the next few weeks. We're at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida, it's been almost a week since the Double or Nothing Pay Per View, and it's time to see what the fallout of that event is. Our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.
They pan the audience and still have the set up from the pay per view, so it's live. We start with Pac and Penta, who haven't teamed together in a while. They say that Rey Fenix was injured earlier by the Young Bucks, who are out next, with a series of BTE triggers, but they aren't going to show us.
Frankie Kazarian attacks Michael Nakazawa, and takes off before the Good Brothers attack him. Pac and Penta attack the Young Bucks right after. Don Callis goes to commentary and the bell finally rings.
Young Bucks (AEW Tag Team Champions) vs Death Triangle
We are also told that Jon Moxley is out indefinitely after the match from Sunday. The match is a clash of styles with the Bucks showboating and overselling everything, and Pac and Penta working a tight, super-stiff style that is much like the New Japan strong style. Brandon Cutler is used for come outside the ring comedy as well, which helps with the Bucks's arrogant over the top heels presentation. The match is in the ring, and neither team looks like they are able to get control for long. There si a nice bit where Nick pulls of Penta's mask, but he has one underneath. At the end, Cutler nails Pac with a foreign object and Nick covers for the three count.
Your winners, and still AEW champions The Young Bucks.
After the match, the Bucks set up at nail Penta with a BTE trigger, but are driven off by Eddie Kingston.
Good fast paced opener, I like that Frankie Kazarian is picking off members of the Bucks's team to get revenge, and the Eddie is keeping up the feud from the tag team match.
After our first commercial break, Tony is in the ring to ask his one question, and he introduces Mark Henry to start promoting Rampage in August. Oddly, he comes to the ring without music. He says he's not here to fix AEW, and he's here to turn the screws. Tony asks if Mark Henry will get back in the ring again. He says he's not going to say yes right now, but he has a lot left in the tank. Vickie Guerrero comes to the ring and tells Tony he is excused and to get out of the ring, so he got his one question.
She says she is here to introduce a third generation wrestler and Andrade comes to the ring in a suit. Mark Henry has left the ring as well. He says he used to be the face of Latinos, but today he is the face of All Elite Wrestling. Crowd is chanting for him, which surprises me. They leave the ring, and...well...I guess that's that. Sorry, a bit underwhelming to me.
Lee Johnson and Cody Rhodes vs Anthony Ogogo and QT Marshall
For two teams that hate each other, the match is fairly slow paced. There is a sequence where Lee is tossed over the top rope, and he skins the cat to head scissors QT out of the ring, and it feels as if it was in slow motion. Lee gets the beat down during the ads on the small screen, but there is no urgency or feeling that anyone is in danger. After the last two months, QT should want to show that he DOES measure up to Cody, and Ogogo should be going in for the kill to get revenge for Sunday. In the end, Cody sets up for a finishing move and Ogogo come in an nails Cody, knocking him out and allowing QT to get the pin. The ref was distracted by Aaron Solow, but since its Rick Knox, there really wasn't a need to do so.
Your winners: QT Marshall and Anthony Ogogo.
QT grabs the mic and says he has shocked the world and mocks Tony Schiavone.
We then get a few highlights from the Stadium Stampede to allow for the Inner Circle to show up in biker move, complete with Leather Vests. He puts over their victory and hands the mic over to Sammy Guevara. Sammy talks about doing 630 dives off of his house as a kid and now he does it in the main event. The rest of the Inner Circle talk about how it's not over. Hager challenges Wardlow to a MMA cage fight in two weeks.
Jericho closes the promo by talking about the unfinished business everyone has and he goes after MJF verbally and how he must settle the score. He closes by saying the Inner Circle never forgives and never forgets, and they promise a summer of violence. An OK victory promo to let us know the war will continue, but not up with their past promos.
We get a promo from the Best Friends about how Orange Cassidy had Omega beat twice in Sunday's match. Cassidy says that if he things it's over, it's not.
Kenny Omega and Dan Callis are looking over the highlights of his match, and Alex Marvez asks about the accusations of cheating. Callis says that next week, they will show the conspiracy against Kenny Omega. Alex asks about the match the Jungle Boy coming soon. Kenny says that he's a Jungle Boy, not a Jungle Man or a Jungle Champion, and then he and Don Callis mock JB's music. It was OK, but there should have been more of Omega's cockiness after beating two men to retain.
Jungle Boy and Christian Cage vs Private Party
First time we've seen Private Party on Dynamite in a while and they are wrestling in button down shirts and khakis. I don't know of many exclusive clubs that aren't golf courses where that looks good. Cage and JB wrestle as if they are two separate people, which Private Party does more tag team stuff, but they have slowed down and are working a more group based style. The announcers let us know they have been on a winning streak since signing with Matt Hardy as their manager.
Private Party mock Cage's five second pose which allows Cage to get out and tag JB, who cleans house, but it doesn't get the pop I though it would because Cage was in the ring getting beat down for too long. JB gets the time after Cage helps break up the Gin and Juice by Private Party, so what was the unbeaten streak for them about?
Your winners, Jungle Boy and Christian Cage
After the match, Hardy gives Cage is a Twist of Fate and the announcers say they have unfinished business.
Taz then gives a promo about how Adam Page can find a partner because they will need to take on Brian Cage and Powerhouse Hobbs. Ricky Starks leaves during the promo in disgust.
It's now time for Tony to interview Darby Allin and his dad, The Man Called Sting!
Sting gives a rah rah speech about the crowd Sunday and when he gets done, Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page show on the tron and how Sting was so good, he was able to drag Darby over the finish line. He tells Darby to find anyone BUT Sting to see if he can win then.
Sting gives a rah rah speech about the crowd Sunday and when he gets done, Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page show on the tron and how Sting was so good, he was able to drag Darby over the finish line. He tells Darby to find anyone BUT Sting to see if he can win then. And Darby says nothing. Lots of set up on tonight's show, and it shows that the feuds we had going into Double or Nothing are just going to continue.
When we get back to the ring, Tony and some people from Dark are in the ring to celebrate Britt Baker and Rebel...and some fast food cheeseburgers. Rebel is all healed up and does not have her crutch with her tonight. Baker says that everyone has a burger coupon under their seats.
When then says the coupons are with her because she did all the work and no one helped her. She talks about how she heard the crowd chanting DMD, and those letters will launch the company to a new level. She lets Tony and Rebel to have a burger with her, and Nyla Rose tosses the burgers after knocking them out of Baker's hands.
So there's a start to the next feud that didn't do much for me.
In the back, Alex Marvez is the back with Eddie Kingston, and Pac and Penta are mad that helped, and they want him to keep his nose out of their business. Eddie tells them the enemy of his enemy is his friend.
Bunny vs Red Velvet
The match starts with Red Velvet knowing Bunny is about to attack her from behind, and dodges it, which is something we don't see enough. They also show a quick update that on Monday, Bunny won with brass knuckles over Big Swole who came to the ring with Red Velvet. The set up for the match is that Velvet is taking it to the Bunny untilt he match goes to the floor, where Bunny is able to get an advantage and work that advantage through the commercial on the small screen. Both women at working hard, and it's the first match since the opener that feels exciting.
Red Velvet started her comeback as they go full screen. Bunny is handed the brass knuckles by Blade, b but Velvet is able to take her out with a spin kick and a pin for the three.
Your winner: Red Velvet
Backstage, it's John Silver's birthday and he was given a match, but he is still injured, so he gives the match to Evil Uno.
Miro cuts a promo about how you don't come after him if you think you can win, you come after him if you think you can survive.
They go over the matches for next week, also on Friday night.
As I have been saying, Dustin Rhodes is gonna get his bull rope match.
Dustin Rhodes vs Nick Comorado in a bull rope match, which basically is a no DQ match.
Only about 12 minutes left in the show, so I don't expect much more than a brawl. They are hooked to the bull rope and JR says using the bell is just as legal as a head lock, remember those? JR throwing the snark tonight. They go outside the ring immediately and brawl through the crowd. Nick shock Fuego who then jumps him to get thrown into the other wrestlers at ringside. Aaron Solow interferes to get attacked by Dustin. Nick is busted open by the cow bell and they brawl on the small screen through the commercials.
We come back to a table set up at ringside, for Dustin to go through. AND IT JUST SLOWS HIM DOWN. Aaron exposes a top turnbuckle and Colton Gunn is able to attack and drive him off. Dustin is able to win after hitting a bulldog from the top and hogtying Nick before pinning him.
Your winner: Dustin Rhodes
A decent enough brawl, but they did no build for it through the show, Then, we get an exposed turnbuckle that doesn't figure into the match AT ALL. Dustin gets puts through a table and it barely slows him down.
We're out of time!
All in all, a blah show that had two decent matches, a lot of promos that just showed the old feuds continuing, and the only feud coming out of this was that Frankie Kazarian is going to attack The Bucks's people, picking them off one at a time.
