NJPW STRONG REPORT: DICKINSON VERSUS LAWLOR FOR THE TITLE, CONNORS IN ACTION, AND MORE

We are in Los Angeles, California and your announcers are Shigeki Kiyono and Hiroshi Tanahashi (in Japanese) or Kevin Kelly and Alex Koslov (in English)

Match Number One: AJZ versus Clark Connors

Connors goes for the leg but AJZ blocks it. AJZ with a side head lock and Connors with a rollup for a near fall. Connors with a wrist lock take down into a double wrist lock and he gets a near fall. They lock up and Connors sends AJZ over the top rope to the floor. Connors with chops and forearms but AJZ fires back with forearms. Connors sends AJZ into the ring post.

Connors with forearms and then he returns to the ring to break the count. Connors with a double sledge off the apron. AJZ with a punch and Connors with a punch before he sends AJZ back into the ring. AJZ drops Connors on the top rope and he hits a slingshot DDT and gets a near fall. AJZ with punches and forearms. AJZ runs his forearm across the bridge of the nose. AJZ with a seated abdominal stretch. Connors with a hip toss but AJZ with a pop up forearm for a near fall. AJZ goes for a suplex but Connors blocks it.

Connors counters with a suplex of his own. Connors with another suplex for a near fall. Connors with forearms across the chest and he gets a near fall. Connors goes for a suplex but AJZ stomps on the foot and AJZ with a delayed gourdbuster. AJZ poses and gestures. AJZ kicks and pie faces Connors. AJZ with forearms and Connors grabs AJZ by the throat. AJZ slaps Connors and AJZ gets Connors up but Connors with punches to escape. Connors with a POUNCE and chops in the corner.

Connors with an Irsih whip and AJZ floats over and misses a knee in the corner. Connors with shoulders in the corner and a back body drop for a near fall. Connors is caught by AJZ and AJZ gets him on his shoulders but Connors with elbows. AJZ with a forearm from the apron and a springboard knee to the head for a near fall. AJZ gets Connors on his shoulders but Connors escapes and hits a power slam. Connors with a spear and uranage for the three count.

Winner: Clark Connors

Match Number Two: El Phantasmo versus Wheeler Yuta

Phantasmo tries to get the ‘crowd’ to clap and then they lock up. Yuta with an arm bar and Phantasmo with a reversal. Yuta with a wrist lock take down. Phantasmo with a head scissors and Yuta escapes and gets a near fall. They lock up and Phantasmo with a front face lock and Yuta with a hammer lock. Phantasmo with a reversal into a smap mare. Yuta with a wrist lock and Phantasmo gets to the ropes.

They lock up and Yuta tries for a take down but Phantasmo blocks it and he applies a wrist lock. Yuta with a side head lock and take down. Phantasmo with a head scissors and Yuta escapes. Phantasmo with a side head lock. Yuta with forearms to the ribs and Phantasmo with a shoulder tackle. Yuta with a leg sweep and rollup. Yuta with a rollup for a near fall. Phantasmo tries to blocks a back slide but he rolls through. Yuta lands on his feet on a monkey flip and Yuta sends Phantasmo to the floor.

Phantasmo finally gets back into the ring right before the referee can get to 20. Phantasmo with a wrist lock take down and he works on the wrist. Phantasmo stomps on the hand and then he chops Yuta and Phantasmo goes Old School but Yuta grabs Phantasmo’s face and Phantasmo is able to resume the walking on the ropes. Phantasmo pulls at the fingers. Phantasmo with a punch.

Yuta and Phantasmo exchange forearms and Phantasmo with a purple nurple on Yuta. Phantasmo with moonsaults for a near fall. Phantasmo with a reverse chin lock. Phantasmo with a front face lock and Yuta goes through the legs and hits an Olympic Slam for a near fall. Yuta with a waist lock and Phantasmo with elbows and a standing switch. Yuta with elbows but Phantasmo with a head butt. Yuta with a lateral press for a near fall. Yuta with a cross body for a near fall. Phantasmo runs into a boot and then Yuta fakes him out before hitting another cross body for a near fall. Yuta with a forearm. Yuta with more forearms and Phantasmo with a neck breaker for a near fall. They go to the turnbuckles and Yuta goes for a superplex but Phantasmo bites Yuta’s hand and sends Yuta to the mat. Phantasmo with a frog splash for a near fall. Yuta avoids a super kick and gets a near fall with a rollup. Yuta with a reverse atomic drop and enzuigiri followed by a German suplex for a near fall. Yuta with an Indian Death Lock into an STF. Phantasmo loads the boot and connects with a super kick for the three count.

Winner: El Phantasmo

After the match, Phantasmo says your king is back and once again, one of your indie darling favorites has felt and experienced the most dangerous finishing move in professional wrestling. Wheeler Yuta met the most accurate and deadliest super kick in the history of New Japan and all of pro wrestling. That, my friends, is money.

Match Number Three: Tom Lawlor versus Chris Dickinson for the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship

Lawlor with a kick to the leg and Dickinson goes for the leg and takes Lawlor down. Dickinson with a front face lock. Lawlor backs Dickinson into the corner and he gives a clean break. Dickinson goes for the leg but Lawlor with a head scissors while JR Kratos and Danny Limelight come to ringside.

Dickinson escapes and he works on the knee. Both men with knee bars and then they go with heel hooks.

Lawlor with a Sharpshooter but Dickinson gets to the ropes. Lawlor with a kick to the leg and then Dickinson with strikes and Lawlor gets to the ropes. Dickinson with kicks and Lawlor with a take down and Dickinson with a front face lock into a triangle. Lawlor with a Gator roll and Dickinson gets on Lawlor’s back. Lawlor goes for a rollup and then he tries for a double wrist lock and applies it.

Lawlor kicks Dickinson in the leg. They get back to their feet. They go to a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock and Dickinson with a drop kick. Lawlor misses a spinning heel kick and Dickinson with a clothesline and Lawlor goes to the floor.

Dickinson pulls Lawlor to the apron and slams the leg on the apron. Dickinson with an uppercut to the leg and a dragon screw leg whip. Dickinson kicks the leg on the floor. Lawlor rolls into the ring to break the count and then he goes back to the floor. They fight to the apron and Lawlor with forearms and Dickinson with chops. Lawlor blocks a kick and then ties the leg in the ropes and hits a cutter. Lawlor with forearms in the corner. Dickinson with chops and Lawlor with a chop of his own. Lawlor with another chop and Dickinson chops back and continues the flurry. Dickinson with an Irish whip and clothesline into the corner. Lawlor catches Dickinson in the corner and hits a spinebuster. Lawlor kicks the hamstring and then applies an ankle lock. Lawlor with a figure four leg lock on Dickinson. Dickinson tries to roll over and he is able to reverse it and Lawlor gets to the ropes to force a break. Lawlor with a kick and forearm followed by a European uppercut.

Dickinson backs Lawlor into the corner to escape a choke. Lawlor with forearms and he reapplies the choke. Dickson chops Lawlor on the turnbuckles and then Dickinson with forearms and he sets for a superplex and hits it. Dickinson with a running clothesline into the corner followed by a second one. Lawlor with an Irish whip and Dickinson with a clothesline out of the corner. Lawlor goes for a sleeper and Dickinson with a Death Valley Driver.

Limelight gets on the apron and Dickinson punches Limelight. Kratos gets on the apron and Brody King comes out and takes care of Kratos. Lawlor with a rear naked choke but Dickinson with a suplex for a near fall. Dickinson sets for a power bomb but Lawlor blocks it and Lawlor with forearms. Dickinson with forearms and then Dickinson with a sunset flip. Lawlor with a kick but Dickinson with a spinning heel kick for a near fall. Dickinson with an STF but Lawlor rolls over and gets a near fall. Lawlor gets to the ropes to force a break.

Dickinson with a German suplex and then he hits another one but Lawlor is able to apply a Kimura. Dickinson with punches but Lawlor with Emerald Frosion. Lawlor with a forearm and chop but Dickinson with chops. Lawlor with kicks and a cravate followed by more knees. Lawlor with an exploder and an torture rack into a neck breaker. Lawlor with a guillotine. Dickinson gets to the ropes to force a break. Lawlor goes for the rear naked choke but Dickinson with elbows and kicks. Lawlor avoids a kick and Dickinson with a choke. Lawlor with a rear naked choke and body scissors. Dickinson with a belly-to-back suplex but Lawlor returns to the rear naked choke. Lawlor with a sleeper suplex for the three count.

Winner: Tom Lawlor (retains championship)

After the match, Karl Fredericks interrupts Lawlor and he tells Tom that when you are the champion around here. He congratulates Lawlor. Tom says that Karl Fredericks doesn’t deserve his time. He says the contract is in the mail.
