AIW GO FOR BROKE REPORT

By Joshua Higham on 2021-05-21 13:12:00

We are back in the undisclosed location in or around Cleveland, OH, for the next episode of AIW’s Go for Broke. We take a look back at the action of the previous episode before we get to this week’s action.

We go to the red couch and hear from Frankie Flynn. He talks about having to go to college when all he wanted to do was wrestle. He mentions being born without a soft spot in his skull, so he has a metal plate on his skull. (His surgeon was actually former Cabinet member and Presidential candidate Ben Carson.) Flynn talks about being one of the first graduates of the AIW Academy. He hadn’t wrestled in AIW since losing the tag titles with Magnum CK, but he’s been watching and keeping up, hoping to come back with a new skill set and new mentality.

AIW Owner John Thorne and AIW President Matt Wadsworth are in the commentary booth.

In the ring, Frankie Flynn takes on one half of the current Tag Team Champions, Marino Tenaglia. Tenaglia and Flynn circle over, but Flynn is drawn to the title. They trade shots, with neither getting a definitive advantage for long. Tenaglia gets opened up above the eye, then tries for a splash, but Flynn rolls out. Flynn tries for the headbutt, but Tenaglia blocks and hits a springboard tumbleweed and the single person Sunset Dreams for the win.

Backstage, Brian Carson is trying to find an opponent, and Kaplan agrees to it. Because why not. Carson can’t convince Kaplan to wager his bank.

Back to the ring, we have Megan Meyers vs Ziggy Haim. The commentary wonders which of these women will be better with the head games. Haim escapes to the floor, and Meyers tries for the kick. Haim blocks and sends Meyers to the apron. Derek Dillinger tries to distract Meyers, but Meyers hits him with a forearm. Meyers schoolgirls Haim and gets the surprise win.

Ethan Wright is on the red couch, talking about getting the opportunity. He doesn’t want to just win the tournament. He wants to become undeniable. He likes the moniker of Academy Killer, taking out graduates of the AIW Academy.

Our next match is Big Twan Tucker vs Ethan Wright. Tucker is using his size and power advantage, but Wright is trying to outsmart his opponent, with The Duke watching from above the stage. Twan catches the cross body attempt, and Wright can’t get Twan down. Twan tweaks his knee, but connects with a big powerslam. Wright ducks the splash, and chop blocks Twan’s knee. Wright locks in the figure four, and Twan has to tap out.

We have a video package from Casey Carrington IV, a 20 year old who’s been training since he was 16. He mentions being seen as an outsider, because he didn’t start his training with AIW. He talks about being rich, calling himself top class, and being able to manipulate people to get what he wants.

Behind the curtain, Twan limps to the lounge, and Brian Carson tries to get Twan to wager his Biggins Bucks in a match. Twan has none of it.

We go back to the ring for Kaplan vs Brian Carson. Longtime friends who went to high school together and joined the AIW Academy together. It’s all Kaplan to start. Carson fights back and hits a knee to the head. Kaplan with a shotgun dropkick before going to the top for a split-legged moonsault. Carson moves out of the way and cradles Kaplan to get back on the board with the win.

Kaplan is backstage and gets approached by the Rip City Shooters. Wes Barkley and Josh Bishop try to pump up Kaplan and call Kaplan their favorite to win the whole thing. Barkley and Bishop tell Kaplan if there’s anything they can do to help him, let them know.

Derek Dillinger vs Casey Carrington IV is our main event. Ziggy Haim is staying ringside. Thorne and Wadsworth mention how much they expect Haim to get involved. And she does. Both men are going kinda heelish, distracting the young referee, but Dillinger gets the better of the cheating. Dillinger locks in a full nelson, but Carrington is able to escape and roll Dillinger up for a 2. Dillinger with a big chokeslam with a nod to Pretty Boy Smooth. Carrington fights back, but Dillinger stops the momentum with an eye poke. Dillinger connects with the Bubba Bomb and gets the three count.

We’re in the lounge where The Duke and Bitcoin Boiz are trying to convince some others to give the Bitcoin Boiz matches. Joseline Navarro comes in and challenges Mikey Montgomery. Dom Garrini finally chimes up and challenges The Duke, but Eric Taylor takes the challenge.
