COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2021-05-19 20:00:00

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means. It's AEW Dynamite, we are still in Daily's Plaza in Jacksonville Florida, and our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.  We've got two episodes until the Double or Nothing pay per view, and it's time to hit the fireworks and make sure we show the crowd around the ring because it's a pre-taped show.

Our first match is Christian Cage vs Matt Sydal, and they give us information that Mike Sydal got beat down by Team Taz on Dark.  Taz is also on commentary since Cage is feuding with Taz's team as well.  Taz also says that Cage is obsessed with him because he wears orange on his tights. Cage towers over Sydal, and Matt has to match with Cage's more technical style than his normal high flying style.  The match is a solid TV match, but in the middle of the match we hear chants of This Is Awesome.  Well, it's solid, but not awesome. Both guys are good in their roles and the match is a 50/50 match, but calm down piped in sound.

Cage wins with the Killswitch and gives him a bump going into the battle royal at the PPV, and as they are shaking hands, Taz sends in Ricky Starks to He calls out the rest of Team Taz and instead of coming from the back, they rush the ring and are able to get our first post match beat down.  Adam Page comes out, hands his drink to Starks (which I liked) and he evens the odds until Hook takes him out from behind, and Brian Cage ends Page's fight with a power bomb.

We get a rundown of the rest of tonight's card.

We get a promo from Brian Pillman Jr and Griff Garrison. Pillman says that he stayed away from wrestling until he met the Young Bucks who brought them into the business, and they are now jerks. They have Julia Hart with them now, so Minnesota represents!

After commercials,  we get promos from Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston and The Acclaimed.  Nice quick promo from Mox and Kingston talking about how they will beat the breaks off these guys.  The Acclaimed give s shot promo insulting Mox and Kingston.

Mox and Kingston come in from the parking lot, and they have a new version of Wild Thing, this time not by theTroggs. As the Acclaimed come to the ring, Caster raps about wanting Mox's wife's Oral Sessions, and that means they get hammered before they get in the ring.  JR says the blows are from Idaho (that they are throwing potatoes) which I liked.  The match starts as just an old-fashioned brawl, where Mox and Kingston beat the tar out of Caster, and when we go into the commercial,Kingston takes the beating on the small screen.

Kingston is able to get to his corner soon after they go back to the big screen and Mox gets to get his revenge on Caster.  Bowen tries to attack with a chain, and the ref stops in, Caster tries to come in with the boombox, and Mox takes it from him and nails him while the ref deals with the chain.  Mox hits the Paradigm shift on Bowens and Mox and Kingston are getting built as a tag team.

Alex Marvez interrupts Chris Jericho and Dean Malenko in the back talking about Jericho's injured arm, trying to get a scoop on if the Inner Circle will accept the Stadium Stampede match.  Jericho tells him he will have to wait, as he's talking the man of ,1,000 holds. As Alex leaves, Malenko says that Jericho still has 4 more holds than him.

We go back to the ring where Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page explain their actions last week.  Sky says that when he was a kid, he wanted to be just like Sting. Now, he feels Sting is not the same man he used to be, and Sky is no longer a child, warning him to step aside or he will put Sting Down.  Page says they don't need Tony any more and he puts over Sky taking out Sting, Darby Allin being tossed down the steps.  So, losing the title was a little bit his fault. Page says he is here to take everything away from Darby and he will be the nail in Darby's coffin.

Then, some idiot turned out the lights.

The Man Called Sting and Darby show up and attack Page and Sky. Sky gets locked into the Scorpion Death Lock and Darby keeps Page out of the ring with his skateboard. They try to retreat and the Dark Order comes out of both entryways to cut them off and they have to leave through the crowd.

After a commercial break, it's time for words from The Pinnacle.  They are at a fancy restaurant and MJF mocks Jericho's promo skills.  This time, Jericho is dealing with a guy who always gets the last laugh.  Dax says they should be chasing titles and instead they have to deal with Jericho. Sean Spears beats up the waiter for not bringing him his drink, so Tully has to give a huge tip.  MJF says the stampede will be their last match.

Britt Baker comes to the ring in street clothes because Rebel, not Reba, has a match with Hikaru Shida.  Reba still has the crutch.  Shida's got her Kendo stick, so everyone has weapons.  Reba tries to sell that her leg is still injured, but Shida ignores her and just starts working it.  Shida has her own doctor's glove and glares at Baker while putting it on, so Baker grabs the belt and gets on the apron, allowing Reba to nail Shida with the crutch.  Shida recovers quickly and makes Reba tap out with the stretch muffler, allowing Baker to attack Shida with the belt.

This was all shenanigans to build heat for the match at the PPV, and did what it was supposed to do.

We went to an exchange between Kenny Omega and Orange Cassidy in the doctor's room last week. Omega, his pinstripe suit, and Don Callis tell everyone to leave and then show Cassidy what they did to him on a tablet. Omega says as an EVPO, they need him to be the mascot of AEW, not in the main event.  They offer him a contract where he gives up the chance to be in the main event of the PPV for a match later.

Cassidy tears the contract up s...l...o...w..l...y.

Omega talks about how he will permanently injure Cassidy in the match at the PPV and hands him another copy of the contract.

After the commercial break, the Inner Circle is on their way to the ring to answer if they will accept the Pinnacle's challenge.  Ortiz speaks first and says he wants to fight. Sammy Guevara is next and says as long as the Pinnacle is in the company, it will never end. Jake Hager is next and he says they have no choice. They have been the baddest since Dynamite started. Jericho and his red shoes are last, and he takes us on a ride.

He talks about if Blood and Guts was worth it.  He puts over that going off the cage was the most terrifying moment of his life.  He then says it was worth it when he thinks about the revenge he is going to get. He accepts the challenge and the stipulation where they will break up if they lose. Strong promo from Jericho without any humor.

We then go to our weekly Jade Cargill saying she hasn't decided on a manager yet. Mark Sterling says he will be working for her. She tells him to leave for interrupting her interview.

Now we've got a NWA women's championship with Red Velvet vs the current champion Serena Deeb.  I fully expect this to be the match of the night.

This is a hard hitting match where Serena works on Red Velvet's leg to set up for the serenity lock.  Serena is also different from her previous matches as she is showing her as more ruthless, not as much the happy, shiny wrestler.  After the commercial, Jade gets in some offense with more leaps and kicks .  They then go to the floor to brawl, fight time that has happened tonight, and when you don't do it in every match, it means more.  There are a couple of sequences where Red is able to counter Serena, but Deeb is able to work her way out of whatever Red does.

Our second This Is Awesome chant and this time it is deserved.  Serena locks in the serenity lock, aven [pulling her back to the middle of the ring, but Red is able to escape with an inside cradle. Serena starts slamming Red's knee into the mat and locks in the serenity lock again for the tap out.

Great match, and it put over Serena as more brutal and ruthless as a champion, contrasting her with Thunder Rosa, who has been more or a tough babyface.

We then go backstage for an interview with Kenny Omega,

We then go backstage for an interview with PAC, who says no one can stop him from the main event at Double or Nothing, no one should bet against the bastard now.

Next up is Austin Gunn with Cody Rhodes and Arn Anderson so he can face Anthony Agogo who comes out with the rest of The Factory.   Ogogo has a Union Jack with him.  It starts with Gunn getting in a lot of offense until Agogo gets in his gut punch. Gunn slowly gets up and then takes another gut punch, and he's bleeding from the batch. The ref is about to stop the match, but Gunn stops him from doing so. After Gunn struggles to his feet, Agogo hits a third gut punch and the ref stops the match.

Cody and Ogogo face off and the refs flood the ring to keep them apart. There's no problem with Gunn being sacrificed to put Agogo as a monster, but it also showed that Ogogo ONLY has the gut punch as he didn't show any other moves.

We then go to Alex Marvez with Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels,  who are now no longer a tag team.  He asks Daniels what the future holds for him. He shakes Kaz's hand, whispers in his ear and leaves.  Kaz then says that whatever path Daniels chooses, he's earned it. Kaz says a part of himself was taken from him.  He is going to cut down every member of the Elite to get revenge or die trying.

Sammy comes out with his signs as we go to a commercial, He says the Pinnacle was overconfident and arrogant. The Inner Circle is far from dead and there will be no surrender.

After more commercials, the New TNT champion, Miro, comes to the ring.  He thanks Jesus for his win, and then puts himself over, and if you have what Miro wants, it's done.  The crowd chants for Darby to come out, but he got beat down earlier in the show, and Miro holds up the belt and says “I've got your Darby right here.”  Miro says he will defend the belt on next Dynamite

Archer comes out, with Lance Archer trying to hold him back.  He says he will beat the hell out of him at Double or Nothing and win the title. Miro then cuts a promo on Jake and then reminds Asrcher he will beat him and keep the title.

We then get a rundown for next FRIDAY'S card.

It's time for our main event, and remember how I said at her first appearance the Julie Hart's ring gear made her look like a cheerleader?  She is now the Cheerleader for the Varsity Blondes, coming out and doing sheer moves with Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison.  Next out are the Young Bucks in all white with Don Callis, and Nick is wearing the silliest hat in wrestling histroy.  Yes, sillier than Buff Bagwell's goofy top hat.

Callis is on commentary and Nick gives his hat to Michael Nakazawa at ringside.

The match starts with the Blondes getting all of the offence, and doing lots of babyface moves makign the Bucks look silly to rev up the crowd.  Once the Bucks get the upper hand, they do a lot of arrogant showboating and Pillman has to take the beat down on the small screen.  The Bucks spend most of their time working over Pillman's lower back. Garrison gets to clean house when they go back to the big screen.  Garrison gets the first dive over the top rope of the night, and again, I LOVE that they aren't doing that in every match.  Gives it more power when you do see it.

The announcers mention Pillman's dad on Dark Side Of The Ring over and over through the match, and while I like that it gives Pillman a back story, the episode was so depressing, I don't think they should make it the focus of his character. The Bucks hit Pillman with the Cold Spray, and Julia Hart lets the ref know when they go to do it again.  The Busks bring in a third can and Spray Hart with it. Matt is able to lock in the Sharpshooter on Pillman, and Nick hits Pillman with a face buster while he is in the sharpshooter and Pillman has to tap out.

Callis joins the Bucks in the ring and Moxley and Kingston come to the ring and stomp a mud hole in the Bucks, and they then lock the Bucks in sleepers and put them out.

Eddie Kingston then takes the initiative to steal the Bucks' shoes that they’ve been showing off the last few weeks.

We get a rundown of the matches set in place for the Double or Nothing Pay Per View on the 30th.
