WWR+ “Let’s Talk About Wrestling”

5/15/21 - 5pm

The White Eagle - Worcester, MA

It’s a big day as Beyond Wrestling and Women’s Wrestling Revolution are pulling a “Go Team Venture” to debut their new combined WWR+ brand! It’s also a big day for me as this is my first live wrestling show I’ve gotten to attend since BCW in early 2020. This card has shuffled a little due to injury but our new main event of Trish Adora & Willow Nightingale looks absolutely fantastic. Rich Palladino is your ring announcer. Alyssa Marino & Paul Crockett are your commentary team for today’s action.

Match 1: “Just One of the Boys” Delmi Exo vs “Not America’s Sweetheart” Davienne

These two know each other well but there’s some extra competition between these two since this match was announced. Davienne is VERY confident and taunting Delmi to show her that she IS worthy to be in the conversation of being the Ace in New England’s women’s wrestling. Delmi responds with technical graps but Davienne is over powering. Pin attempt trades, Davienne with a backslide for a close two. A frustrated Davienne throws her armband in Delmi’s face before slamming her to the mat in a show of pure disrespect. Delmi fires up with a slap and chops. Davienne dodges a running knee to the corner, powders but Delmi cannonballs off the apron to take her out. Delmi kicking at the arm and shoulder and working to wrench that limb off. Davienne screams as Delmi applies a surfboard bow and arrow with those long legs. Big suplex for two! Delmi Exo pulls out a playing card and papers cuts the webbing of Davienne’s fingers. WTFFFFFFF. Delmi tries a monkey flip but gets snake eyed. Big uranage from Davienne but her hand is killing her. Sidewalk slam for two! Hangman’s DDT for another near fall. “Where’s Ashley, dummy?!? How are you gonna beat me by yourself?!?” yells Davienne as she stalks Exo with more punishment. Up to the top, Davienne sent down, Exo with the missile dropkick to the injured arm of Davienne. Double down but they make the count. Delmi fires up with two dozen shots to the face and arm, Davienne walks into a bridging belly to belly suplex for two. Davienne slaps on a sleeper as Delmi tries to the wrench the arm again. Jawjacker to escape....Davienne holds on.....They fall back to the rope break. Davienne with a german and big kick but Delmi won’t stay down. Both competitors are exhausted and straring each other down in the corner, back to the center to trade shots, Delmi reverses into a cutter, punt kick to Davienne. One. Two. Davienne gets the rope! A desperate Delmi removes the second turnbuckle but Davienne catches her legs and sinks in a DEEEEEEEP boston crab. Delmi to the ropes to break it. Delmi dodges a chokeslam into an exploder. Delmi comes running into the corner, Davienne dodges and goes face first into the exposed steel. Davienne with a basemen dropkick that sends Delmi sliding into the post. She pulls her back in for the three count. This started off like a slow burn chess match and they two worked themselves into a frenzy. Delmi pulled out all the stops (legal and otherwise) but Davienne was too much for this Sea Star. Epic opener here for this show. Loved it.

Winner: Davienne

Match 2: “The Gladiator of the Geeks” Riley Shepard vs “Just Business” Tina San Antonio

Tina doesn’t know quite what to make of the renn-faire decked out Shepard. She tries to play the queen and calls her a peasant but Shepard drags her to the mat and make her pay for that slight. San Antonio with an eye poke and a back suplex before pulling the hair and going full taunt mode. Tina with a walk over and senton for a lazy pin attempt before working a choke. Tina taking her opponent apart confidently, calmly, effectively....but Shepard won’t stay down. Shepard makes her dodge check, making Tina misses an elbow and leg drop. Shepard firing up with clotheslines and an exploder. Tina tries a fireman’s carry but Shepard reverses it into a DVD neckbreaker. “GAME OVER” she screams before hitting that finish for the three. Good clash of styles here. Tina is such a confident smooth heel when she’s in control. Shepard had to go to the well and use her Rage daily to turn the tide here but she was all intensity on that comeback. Good stuff.

Match 3: Becca vs Erica Leigh

Tonight, the scrunchie pals explode. Well maybe not explode, they don’t seem MAD at each other. It’s a scrunchie showdown....but they’re still friends. Leigh does want to WIN though. Leigh with a gutwrench takedown. Becca tries to works the arm but eats canvas again. Becca becoming frustrated and uses a scrunchie to distract her friend for a rollup attempt. Leigh escapes and works up a pump handle powerslam. Leigh comes running and eats a Becca superkick. Becca slaps on a camel clutch and rips out Leigh’s scrunchie. BOOOOOOOOOOOO! Are they still friends?!? Becca with a dropkick to the back of the head and flip knees for a two count. Becca angrily stomping Leigh but Erica starts up kicking her way to some space. Becca stays on with a snap suplex and splash for two. Becca comes running into a rollup for two but Becca is back with knees to the guts for her own near fall. Erica with some elbows but runs into a cutter. Leigh with a back elbow and bulldog for a clooooooose two. Becca is mad and takin it to that 90’s chick. Becca whiffs a moonsault and fires up a big clothesline for two. Big boot for another two. Leigh with a running leg lariat but Becca ain’t done. Becca wraps up the legs and arches back into a bridging STF. Leigh makes the rope but eats a German for her efforts. Becca misses a spinning kick and gets hit with a X-Factor. Becca with a dropkick off the top but it isn’t enough. They take it to the top and Leigh hits a superplex but she’s too wiped to make the cover. Leigh wants her scrunchie back. ”It’s MINE!” This almost turns into the tiniest bull rope match because they break it off and Leigh hits a spear for the pin. Leigh has been impressive the last few months I’ve seen her work but this match put a spotlight on the growth that Becca has had over the last year. Great emotion in the story here. This was really good.

Winner: Erica Leigh

Match 4: Lil Mean Kathleen vs “The Conduit of Karma” Kaia McKenna

LMK is all rabid energy. Kaia wants a test of strength...LMK gets the advantage as they trade waistlocks. Kaia drags her to the mat but Kathleen grabs on a head scissors. LMK has such a connection to the crowd with her screaming. Kaia is stretching her but LMK has an escape plan. Big bulldog from McKenna for two. Kathleen with corner stomps. Kathleen doesn’t let up and berserkers her way forward and tries to put Kaia to sleep. Kaia and Kathleen trading kicks. Kaia is on rubber legs. LMK hits a northern lights suplex and gets the pin. Huge please come back chant for both ladies but WOW, the crowd just ate up Little Mean Kathleen, who has come a HELL of a long way since “Please Come Back 2”. This was the wildest crowd moment of the show so far. This was f***ing great live.

Winner: Lil Mean Kathleen

Match 5: Kings of the District (Jordan Blade & Eel O’Neal) vs The Outfielders (Boomer Hatfield & Molly McCoy)

Higher Society (Armani Kayos & Paris Van Dale) make their presence known for this match, insult both teams and decide to hang out at ringside for this contest. Jordan and Boomer work some high technical and aggressive graps in the each going. Eel tags in and tosses Boomer into to take on Molly. Eel gets sent packing but Molly wants nothing to do with Jordan. Blade and Eel get toped on the outside by Hatfield and the Outfielders get to working over O’Neal. Eel with a crossbody to the back of Boomer. Jordan and Molly in but Blade is MAULING McCoy. Eel slingshots into with a splash for two. Kings of the District uses a distracted ref for a tandem facebuster and double running knee to crush McCoy. Blade with a single leg crab but Molly kicks out of it. Boomer in hot on Eel, Michinoku driver for two! Outfielders with a tandem powerbomb on Eel but he doesn’t quit. Eel wraps a gory special on Boomer but Boomer slips away and a headbutt drops them both. Blade in to kill. Fisherman’s buster to McCoy for two. Swinging tandem face buster for another two. Boomer making the save, code red to Jordan and Molly with a spinning kick to Blade’s head to get the pin. Higher Society back in the ring to clap for the Outfielders and want a handshake. It’s a fakeout and they leave Boomer and McCoy looking foolish. I think I’m gonna love to hate this team. Kings of the District may have lost but they looked REALLLLLLY good through this whole contest against favorites Boomer & McCoy. Liked this a lot.

Match 6: Kennedi Copeland vs Jody Threat

Angst vs Anger. Copeland trying to lock up the wild child but Threat is all aggression and blasts her with a lariat, following with some corner spears an a northern lights. Copeland tries coming off the top but gets caught in a falcon arrow for another near fall. Copeland to the outside, Threat comes running and gets tripped into the chairs. Copeland is introducing Threat to the pain of using chairs for arm leverage. Threat fights out and hits a LONG delayed vertical suplex to the floor, thudding her to the boards. Threat expends the effort to roll Copeland back into but Kennedi traps the legs and slides into a STF. Threat picks her up and slams out of the hold. Threat with a torture rack into a blue thunder bomb to pick up the victory here. Copeland really tried to hold back Threat. I loved the work on the floor but Threat just ran her over after the ridiculous suplex to the floor. Huge “Welcome back” chant for Threat, who looked great here. Great energy to this match.

Winner: Jody Threat

Match 7: “Megasus” Megan Bayne vs Ashley D’Amboise

Megan Bayne has a PRESENCE that exudes the word “star”. Bayne is a powerhouse but effortlessly switching between holds and slamming Ashley. D’Amboise does get her licks into, trying to hold Bayne down but again, Bayne is a powerhouse and muscles through it all. She wants a suplex? Ashley tries a sleeper. Bayne breaks the sleeper and slams her anyways. Ashley caught running into a high angle powerslam for two. Ashley with a jaw breaker stuns Bayne and she capitalizes with corner whips and a suplex but Megasus is too damn strong. Ashley tries crossbody off the top but Bayne catches and spins his into a uranage for the victory. Bayne just made a STATEMENT tonight, seeming like a hybrid of former WWR Ace Deonna Purazzo and Wonder Woman...but Ashley D’Amboise’s work is so smooth and made this match work so well. Hell of a debut here by both.

Main Event: “The Afropunk” Trisha Adora vs “The Babe with the Power” Willow Nightingale

These two are a joy to watch. Adora works Willow to the mat as they feel each other out in the early minutes. The Babe with the Power wants that test of strength but Trish keep kipping up out of the pins. Adora gets the wrist and shoulder locks Willow right to her back. Willow finds her rhythm against the technical prowess of Adora and blasts her with a pounce after a series of reversals. Triple suplex for a near fall. Adora comes back but eats a flying leg lariat from Nightingale. Willow wraps up the. Legs in a cloverleaf and pulls at the leg, transitioning to a camel clutch into a pin attempt. Trish slips the pin and targets the wrist but a frantic Willow escapes the hold. Trish ducks a roundhouse kick and gets into the forearm trade. Trish blasts Willow to the buckle and tosses her down into a cattle mutiliation. Willow powering out and up to hit an Olympic slam for two! Trading stifffff kicks to their feet, Trish with the headlock takeover for two. Trish with an enziguri and Willow is stunned to the apron. Trading chops on the edge and Willow hits a DVD to the apron! Corner cannonball from Willow......moonsault misses! Trish rolls up Willow and wraps her into another Cattle Mutilation! Willow taps! I love seeing Willow go and my first live Trish Adora match did NOT disappoint. This was awesome.

Winner: Trish Adora

Willow and Trish share a handshake and hug in the ring post-match. A confident Davienne is out of the curtain to aggressively clap for Adora too... #foreshadowing. ;)

And that’s it for “Let’s Talk About Wrestling”. I have to be honest, this was a hit.....a home run, even. This roster SHOWED OUT today in their returns & debuts. The crowd showed the right energy throughout the show and ate this all up. I’m as excited for the next WWR+ show as I am to see all of the newer talent start to find their way into Beyond itself. This show felt like it flew by. You can catch it on IWTV VOD soon!
