It's Wednesday, and you know what that means. We are at Daily's Place in Jacksonville Florida for another episode of AEW Dynamite as we get the fall out from last week's Blood and Guts, and build toward the PPV Double or Nothing. Our announcers are Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.
We start out hot with Jon Moxley vs. Yuji Nagata for the IWGP US Title, and I expect this will be a great way to kick off the show. Moxley has new music, and they have paid out the money for Wild Thing by The Troggs as Moxley and Eddie Kingston come to the ring after Nagata makes his entrance. This match is a great example of New Japan Pro Wrestling strong style, as the match is light on wrestling holds and is based on strikes and kicks. Both men look strong, and neither has much on an edge as they have a brawl mostly in the ring. Moxley wins with the Paradigm shift to retain.
Afterwards, both men bow to the other, and the announcers go down the card. They then shift backstage for an interview with part of the Inner Circle, Jericho and Santana are missing
Ortiz gives a quick rundown of the end of the match and says that Santana was arrested for using a fork during the match. Ortiz informs us he believes this to a “bitch move” and says that Santana should be been much more violent. Jack Swagger gets his chance to put the Inner Circle over Sammy says that as long as they are in the same company, they will never stop fighting, and if they don't get a rematch, they will put them in a grave. .
We go back to the arena where Cody is going to make a big announcement....after commercials.
Cody says that Patriotism is out of style, and the crowd starts chanting USA. He says he has never not been proud to be an American. Anthony Ogogo has run down the US, and Cody lets us know that Anthony has been given a Visa, he gets paid in American money, and he came to the US to live the American Dream. Cody puts over the US and has a lot of examples of immigrants doing great things, and that his child shows that things are better then they used to be.
Cody then says he will fight Anthony Ogogo at Double or Nothing, where they will be a full capacity. But, Ogogo will not be wrestling the American Nightmare. He will be facing the American Dream, Cody Rhodes. An old school Wave the Flag promo which fired up the crowd, but I haven't seen Ogogo run down the US on Dynamite, so it didn't have the same resonance as it would have it we saw a promo or two from Ogogo, rather than hi9m laying out members of the Rhodes faction.
We then go to a video about how SCU and the Young Bucks used to be friends, but no longer. They also recap that if SCU loses, they will break up.
The Bucks are in full cocky, arrogant mode with Don Callis and the Good Brothers as they come out for the match after SCU has come to the ring. The Bucks are much better as heels that baby faces with their style. Callis joins commentary, and his job is to run down SCU, talk up the Bucks, and he only drops in here and there as the match is so fast paced that the commentary teams has to work to keep up.
The match starts as a clash of styles as SCU is taking it seriously, and the Bucks are showing off after each move. It a contrast to the way they were almost reluctant heels a few weeks ago. The Bucks get to beat down Christopher Daniels through the break on the small screen. Oddly, they have Kazarian do the tag in and clean house section of the match on the small screen. The announcers put over that they have faced off 12 times with each winning 6, and it's clear these teams know how to work with each other.
Daniels is run into the ring post and is busted open, and it's not needed in this match.
Matt noticed that Daniels is down outside the ring and shows concern for hi, which allows Kazarian to be able to fight both fo the Busks and hold his own. As Kaz rolls up Matt, but the Good Brothers distract the ref the whole time Matt is pinned. Daniels is able to recover and tag in, but he's going to be the weak link as he's weak and wobbly as the allows Kazarian to recover. Matt even does the “I'm sorry, I love you” to Daniels before a near fall, but the announcers put over it was sarcastic. The Bucks then try everything, hitting Daniels with the cold spray, but it is the BTE on Daniels that gets the Bucks the win, and SCU has to break up.
We don't get to let this resonate as we go to the backstage area where Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley destroy the Elite's locker room, which used to be the Inner Circle's locker room.
Am I the only one who hopes this means Curry Man will come back? Probably.
Dasha interviews Christian Cage and they start talking about Taz's technique video from last week. He says he will be in the middle of the ring next week to face anyone on Taz's team, and he will be in the Casino Battle Royal. And he is interrupted by Matt Sydal and he will be facing Cage next week.
Now, it's time for Orange Cassidy vs Pac, and the last time these two met, it was the first AEW match Cassidy had where he showed his in ring style. Pac comes out with both of the Lucha Bros with him, first time we have seen them together in a while, and Penta's translator isn't with them. We don't get more than a minute into the match before we are in picture in picture where they brawl outside the ring.
The announcers say it is so important that if they go to another break, they will do picture in picture, which is odd, since they only did picture in picture through half of the last break. The story of the match is the Pac is methodically breaking Cassidy down as Cassidy is able to just barely survive. Cassidy makes Pac look like a super-human destroyer for most of this match. Last time they met, it was a feud between the two, this time, it's Pac just wanting to crush him to get that title.
We do get a second commercial break in the match, and Cassidy's refusal to stay down is irritating The Bastard Pac. When we come out, Don Callis comes out and tells Pac to finish this match. This distracts the ref so that Omega can run in and nail Pac with the belt. This causes both men to be counted out.
Don says that means Omega doesn't have to defend the title at Double or Nothing. Tony interrupts them and informs them that it will be a three way match when Kenny Omega faces both Orange Cassidy and Pac. Don and Kenny are furious and say they are going back to Winnipeg.
A triple threat? IS VINCE ON THE BOOKING COMMITTEE?
We then get the Bucks and the Good Brothers react to their locker room being trashed, where Doc Gallows says he sits in a circle and praises the Lord. The Bucks talk about how they broke up SCU, and next week, they will go after the number one contenders, the Varsity Blondes. They then challenge Mox and Kingston to a match at Double or Nothing.
We come back to Alex Marvez with Adam Page and the Dark Order and Adam has dropped to number 5 in the rankings. Page says that it would be hard to win after he got jumped. He then challenges Brian Cage to a match without Taz's team around at Double or Nothing.
The Pinnacle heads to the ring for their Coronation. MJF has a crown on and it is brought to the ring with two women in evening dresses. The Pinnacle is all suited up with a pair of pillars and flowers in the ring as well as balloons. MJF says he is now t6he king of AEW and the greatest of all time. MJF wonders why they would want a rematch, and he asks the crowd if they want to see it. The crowd cheers and he says....no, of course. Tully gets the mic and puts over the Pinnacle as they took everything the Inner Circle had, and at the end, they quit. When you win, you get great things, and he has gotten everyone in the group a watch.
We then hear honking as Sammy, Ortiz and Jake Hager come to the ring with an ATVC and a trailer. Jericho comes out of the trailer with a mic and his arm in castlike thing and asks if they will give them a rematch.
MJF says no.
And because he says no, it's time for the Pinnacle to get sprayed with a connon charged up with a Little Bit Of The Bubbly.
MJF responds that at Double or Nothing, they will meet at a Stadium Stampede match, but this year, nothing funny will happen. MJF says if the Inner Circle loses, they have to break up forever, take it or leave it.
JR does a sit down with Britt Baker, and he says that she met Shida last year, and Baker lost and got her nose busted. Baker says that she was out for five months, and in coming back, she has become the baddest b**h in the company. They show a sequence from Dark where Baker interrupted a Tony Khan photo shoot and Shida attacked her. Baker says she thinks Kahn should have a picture with the champion, and she will be champion in three weeks. Baker gives a serion interview here, which is a switch from her more silly interviews.
Thunder Rosa “is in action” next, which means a squash match. It's a shame we only get one women's match a week on Dynamite and it's an enhancement match when they have such a great women's roster.
In the ring is Jazmin Allure. Yep. That's her name.
Rosa looks strong, and actually pulls Allure up on a two count in order to hit her finisher, the fire thunder driver for the three count. The entire match, the announcers put over that she should be the number one contender, except that her match with Baker was unsanctioned.
The announcers go over the card for next week quickly and then the announced matches for Double or Nothing.
We get another video package with Jade Cargill with Tony who goes over an offer made by Mark Sterling (MJF's lawyer). Jade says she handles her own business, but she is listening to offers.
We're heading to the Main Event with 20 minutes left in the show.
Before the match, Darby Allin gives us a tour of hius hometown and where he came from. He talks about how Miro hasn't done anything since he got to AEW but play video games. I like how his promo was done in a beat down old warehouse in black and white, no shouting, just a calm explanation of how he needs to win. Miro comes to the ring and they have thankfully dropped the whole “Best Man”.
Darby comes to the ring with his dad, Sting. Think about how they have had Darby as the main event for the last four or so weeks. They wouldn't do it if he wasn't a draw after so many weeks.
Miro literally tosses Darby around the ring before the bell rings. Miro then beats down Darby outside the ring as Miro is screaming at the ref to ring the bell. All I can think as I watch this is how different things would be if THIS is how Miro came into AEW. As Darby takes off his leather jacket, he's all taped up and the bell rings and the match starts.
Darby starts in his offense, and he does a tope onto Miro outside the ring where pinballed off of Miro and was the best dive I've seen in a while. Sting gets taken down on the picture in picture by Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page who then take off.
The story of the match is going to be Darby barely surviving as Miro just keeps up the attack. Darby slaps on a sleeper hold, but his arm injured last week is unable to keep the hold long enough to keep Miro down. Miro finally starts working on the injured arm and then goes back to tossing Darby around. As Darby is recovering he and Sting have a moment, share a fist bump and Darby is able to get a flurry of offense. Miro locks in a waistlock and Darby Allin has to tap out,
We've got a new TNT champion, and as Scorpio Sky and Page attack Sting, the Dark Order show up and drive them off.
Darby is out cold as Miro gloats. Lance Archer comes out and Jake Roberts is holding him back from attacking Miro and...we're out of time!!!
