QUICK AEW WAR GA....ER BLOOD AND GUTS THOUGHTS AFTER WE GET TO THE MAIN EVENT MATCH

By Dave Scherer on 2021-05-05 21:41:00

As I said on audio, they got me excited for the main event when they moved away from swirlys and turned to real emotions.  That got me pumped for the show so I figured I would share my thoughts pre and post main event.

Thoughts from early on:

The opener was what I expected.  Hey, when Michael Nakazawa is involved, who expects a lot?  After it ended, when The Young Bucks came out, I figured, "Bucks vs. Eddie and Mox, makes sense".  Except, they killed them so I guess they aren't facing off.  Nakazawa bleeding, even if it was hard way (I am not sure), wasn't smart since the main event is about blood.

Cody vs. QT also had blood, also potentially hard way.  Still, you have to work smarter when the goal is get people to watch the main event for, BLOOD.  Cody is a vet and Marshall is a trainer.  They have to know better, no matter what the case.  QT lost clean so if the goal was to elevate him, it probably didn't work.  If the goal wasn't to elevate him?  They may have succeeded.

Britt Baker won a squash, which she should since she is taking on the champ at the next PPV.

The tag match.  I wanted Kaz and Daniels to win, and they did.  But after the visual earlier of The Bucks facing off with Mox and Kingston, then being told that these were the four best tag teams in AEW, it rang a little hollow.  My eyes told me Mox and Eddie were the top team a half hour earlier.

Kenny's promo.  Is it still going on?  I love Pac and have come to like Orange a lot.  But minutes earlier I heard Mox say he was the baddest man in the company, will destroy Nagata and also say he was coming for Kenny's belt.  How are two tag guys the number one and two contenders?  Again, my eyes saw one thing and my ears are being told another.  So far, I am very let down.  Hope the main event delivers.

Someone needs to protect Darby Allin from himself (looking at you Tony Khan).  I don't care how much Darby likes pain or how good he is at stunts.  An adult in the room has to tell him he can't bump down cement steps like that.  That isn't pro wrestling.

The Main Event:

I knew there would be blood.  And, there was, a sickening (to me) amount.  I knew there would be "guts", like Wardlow taking an ECW style unprotected chair shot to the head. It made me sick to see.  But, it's their choice to do it I guess. If you liked it, I appreciate that.  I don't agree, but I appreciate it.  Given all of the things that they did here that I thought we would never see in 2021 now that we know better, when MJF was going to throw Jericho off of the top of the cage unless his team submitted, I was so happy that they gave up.  Then, MJF did it anyway.  Jericho, at his advanced age, did something I have no qualms in saying he should have never done. The guys all worked their asses off and took years off of their life in this match, and I respect the hell out of that.  Me?  I hated what I saw.  30 years ago?  I would have liked it and maybe their goal is to get the young people who liked what I did back then on board.  If it does, they did the right thing.  If it doesn't, well, then they didn't.
