NEW JAPAN TALENTS PULLED FROM WRESTLING DONTAKU, DDT-PRO UPDATES, WHAT'S NEXT FOR ALL JAPAN, ZERO1 AND MORE FROM JAPAN

 

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling held the second night of Wrestling Dontaku today in Fukuoka Convention Center, albeit with some significant changes to the card due to COVID-19 precautions.

An unnamed roster member who wrestled on the first night of Wrestling Dontaku yesterday recorded a fever this morning. Additionally, an unnamed roster member who wrestled on the Road to Wrestling Dontaku tour show on May 1 also had a fever.

Most notably, El Desperado’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship defense (the first of his reign) against YOH was cancelled.

Will Ospreay made his first successful defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Shingo Takagi in the main event. He will next defend the title against Kazuchika Okada, who missed today’s show due to the aforementioned COVID-19 precautions, on the second night of Wrestle Grand Slam on May 29 in the Tokyo Dome.

DDT Pro-Wrestling

DDT Pro-Wrestling aired an empty arena show today on WRESTLE UNIVERSE.

Chikara, Nabe Yakan, Sanshiro Takagi and Yukio Naya made their first successful defense of the KO-D 8-Man Tag Team Championships against Hideki Okatani, Keigo Nakamura, Toi Kojima and Yuya Koroku. After the match, Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Kenoh appeared to confront Takagi.

It was announced after the show that Takagi will team with Akito, Hideki Okatani, Kazusada Higuchi, Naomi Yoshimura and Yukio Sakaguchi against Haoh, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Kenoh, Manabu Soya, Masa Kitamiya and Nioh at the CyberFight Festival on June 6 in Saitama Super Arena.

Chris Brookes made his second successful defense of the DDT Extreme Championship against Saki Akai and also won the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship by extension.

Yuki Ueno made his fifth successful defense of the DDT Universal Championship against Soma Takao in the main event. He nominated Akito as his next challenger after the match and the bout will officially take place at DDT’s show on May 29 in Fukuoka.

DDT will hold a show tomorrow in Hamamatsu. The full card is:

Yuya Aoki came out to challenge Abe and Nomura for the titles but did not have a partner. Akira Hyodo and Kankuro Hoshino also came out to challenge the champions.

The rules of the main event, per the company’s English Facebook page, are: “3 flags will be placed atop the cage. The first team to pull 2 flags will win the match.

“The losing team will then immediately face each other in a singles match, with the loser having to share their head or remove their mask.

“Due to the overwhelming numbers advantage that R?E?D has over HIGH-END, on 4/29 in Kanazawa Dragon Kid sought to enlist the help of Natural Vibes & Masquerade. Both units agreed, so a lottery was held to determine which team each unit will provide support for.”
