KENNY OMEGA RESPONDS TO ANDRADE

By Oliver Taylor on 2021-05-03 11:15:00

All Elite Wrestling's Kenny Omega has responded to former WWE superstar Andrade’s challenge to an AAA Mega Championship match at this year’s Triplemanía on Twitter.

Omega had a simple message for his challenger: “I’m a busy guy, give me some time to think about it."

AAA’s most recent show, Rey de Reyes on May 1, ended with a vignette where Andrade stated his two goals in AAA are to wrestle Psycho Clown and defeat Omega for the AAA Mega Championship.

No date has been given for this year’s Triplemanía yet, but barring any major setbacks due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, one could reasonably expect the show to take place around August or September.

Omega has held the AAA Mega Championship since October 2019, making successful defenses on both AAA and AEW shows against Jack Evans, Dragon Lee, Sammy Guevara and Laredo Kid.

Omega nominated the extraordinary Hijo del Vikingo as his next challenger for the title at Triplemanía XXVIII last December, although it seems that match has been either postponed or abandoned after Andrade was released from WWE in March.

The AAA Mega Championship is not the only title in Omega’s possession, as he defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship last December and Rich Swann to win the Impact World Championship at Impact Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view on April 25. DDT Pro-Wrestling’s Tetsuya Endo also nominated Omega to challenge him for the KO-D Openweight Championship last year, although Omega was not able to travel to Japan and Endo eventually lost the title to Jun Akiyama in February.

Andrade has also been announced for Federación Wrestling’s debut pay-per-view on June 19, where he will team with Bestia del Ring, Rush and a mystery partner against PJ Black, Matt Taven and two mystery partners in the show’s main event. Andrade has also promoted a match against Alberto El Patrón (formerly known as Alberto Del Rio in WWE) at a show on July 31 in Texas.
