Lucha Libre AAA World Wide is set to hold its Rey de Reyes event tomorrow with a card full of matches with championship implications and surprises.
Opening the show will be a five-way pitting Aramis versus Arez versus Dinastía versus Látigo versus Toxin. The winner of the bout will be Laredo Kid’s next challenger for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
The status of the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship has point of controversy lately, as Lio Rush defeated Laredo Kid to win the title on an episode of Major League Wrestling’s Fusion show in February but AAA has not recognised the title change.
Six women will be vying for vacant AAA Reina de Reinas Championship: Chik Tormenta, Faby Apache, Flammer, Lady Maravilla, Lady Shani and a mystery sixth competitor. AAA head of creative Konnan told Sports Illustrated that the mystery woman “will be someone you recognize from the United States.”
The title was previously held by Taya Valkyrie, who has since signed with WWE and wrestles as Franky Monet on the NXT brand.
Speaking of vacant titles and mystery opponents, Daga recently vacated the AAA Latin America Championship and a new champion will be crowned in a three-way bout. Two names have been confirmed for the match, Octagon Jr. and Taurus, but the third man is a mystery.
Eight of AAA’s top stars will collide in the event’s namesake one-night tournament: Rey De Reyes. The Rey De Reyes dates back to 1997 and the match winner is presented with a sword.
The eight men competing in the Rey De Reyes are:
• Abismo Negro Jr.
• Aerostar
• Drago
• Hijo del Vikingo
• Laredo Kid
• Murder Clown
• Myzteziz Jr.
• Texano Jr.
Aerostar and Texano Jr. have won the tournament before in 2019 and 2015 respectively. Abismo Negro won the tournament in 2000, although Abismo Negro Jr. is of no relation.
Hijo del Vikingo will certainly be worth keeping eye on, as Kenny Omega nominated the extraordinary young luchador as his next challenger for the AAA Mega Championship at Triplemanía XXVIII last December.
Omega is not scheduled to appear at the show and neither are AAA World Tag Team Championships holders Fénix and Pénta El Zero M.
In the main event, Chessman will team with a mystery partner against Pagano and Psycho Clown in a no disqualifications match.
Chessman and Pagano faced off in the main event of Triplemanía XXVIII and it will be fascinating to see who Chessman’s partner is at Rey de Reyes. Psycho Clown has mentioned former WWE superstar Andrade as a potential opponent (link), and Andrade did upload a photo at Orlando International Airport on Instagram today (link).
The show will not be available to watch live in America, although it will air live on Space TV in Mexico. For viewers outside of Mexico, the show will be uploaded on Facebook and YouTube at a later date.
