NAGATA VS. MOXLEY, MUTOH TRIUMPHANT IN SECOND GHC TITLE DEFENSE AND MORE FROM JAPAN

New Japan Pro Wrestling

All Elite Wrestling announced during last night’s episode of Dynamite that New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Yuji Nagata will challenge Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship on the May 12 episode of Dynamite.

The match will be Moxley’s fourth defense of the title, having defeated Juice Robinson, Minoru Suzuki and KENTA since winning the title from Lance Archer on the first night of Wrestle Kingdom 14 on January 4, 2020.

It will not be the first time a New Japan star has appeared on AEW programming, as KENTA teamed with Kenny Omega against Archer and Moxley in a Falls Count Anywhere match on the February 10 episode of Dynamite.

It will also not be the first time Nagata has wrestled on TNT. In the 1990s, New Japan sent Nagata on excursion to World Championship Wrestling and he faced the likes of Chris Jericho and Dean Malenko on Monday Nitro.

New Japan held the second night of Wrestling Satsuma no Kuni today in Nishihara Shokai Arena.

Kota Ibushi challenged Jeff Cobb to a singles match at the first night of Wrestle Grand Slam on May 15 in Yokohama Stadium.

HAYATA and Yoshinari Ogawa made their fifth successful defense of the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against Ikuto Hidaka and NOSAWA Rongai.

Seiki Yoshioka and YO-HEY came out to challenge for the titles afterwards, but neither HAYATA or Ogawa gave a concrete answer.

Takashi Sugiura defeated Kazuyuki Fujita to win the GHC National Championship. Kazushi Sakuraba challenged Sugiura after the bout and the match will take place at NOAH’s show on May 30 in Ota Ward Gymnasium.

Keiji Mutoh made his second successful defense of the GHC Heavyweight Championship against GHC Heavyweight Championship against Masa Kitamiya in the main event. Naomichi Marufuji challenged Mutoh after the bout and the match will take place at the CyberFight Festival on June 6 in Saitama Super Arena.

All Japan Pro Wrestling

Shinjiro Otani will miss the remainder of the Champion Carnival due to a broken right arm.

He had a 2-4-1 record before the injury. He will lose his remaining two matches against Kohei Sato and Zeus via forfeit and finish with four points.

All Japan Pro Wrestling aired its ninth Champion Carnival show today on AJPW TV.

Following their match today, Shotaro Ashino and SUWAMA agreed to form a new team.

Going into the final Champion Carnival show on May 3, Jake Lee, Kento Miyahara, Kohei Sato and SUWAMA are all in the running to win the tournament. All four men are tied at the top of the standings with 10 points each.

Miyahara is best positioned to win the tournament. If he defeats Lee on the final show, he will win the tournament.

If Lee defeats Miyahara, he will also need Shuji Ishikawa to defeat SUWAMA to win the tournament.

If SUWAMA defeats Ishikawa, he will also need Lee to defeat Miyahara and Yuma Aoyagi to defeat Sato to win the tournament.

Sato faces the biggest uphill battle to win the tournament. If Sato defeats Aoyagi, he will need Miyahara and Lee to draw.
