I am not sure how true this story is, but I vaguely do remember reading an edition of the New York Daily News the day of Wrestlemania X that Lex Luger gave away the ending of his matches that night, that he was supposed to go over on Yoko and turn heel to beat Bret. Am I remembering a tall tale or did something like this happen?
The story was indeed in the New York Daily News, but it wasn't the old Slammer column. It was featured in a gossip column that Luger would win the belt and drop it to Bret. There was no truth to that being the booking, but someone leaked it to the News. The only thing the newspaper did have correct were that Mr. Perfect and Roddy Piper would be the guest referees for the title matches.
So, no Undertaker, no Cena, no Brock, etc. but I see fans complaining this year's Wrestlemania was boring. When will they be happy?
If someone is complaining the show was boring, I'd dare say they were the ones who have the issue and nothing will make them happy. There were 3-5 really damn good matches on the show between Banks vs. Sasha, Cesaro vs. Rollins, Drew vs. Lashley, The Universal title, etc.
Any word on a location for Summerslam?
As we mentioned earlier this week in the PWInsider Elite section, there's been talk within the company about potentially running the show in Phoenix, Arizona as well as potentially Texas. Nothing is set in stone, obviously. With the pandemic, things could change and they could end up in the Thunderdome, but I know internally, they are hoping to be outdoors in a stadium setting, with fans, at least for that show.
I really enjoyed the interview with Karrion Kross this week. When you interview WWE talents, are you ever given rules as to what you can ask?
No, you are pretty much given a window of time that you have with the talent and then it's on you. I've never ever been asked once not to ask a certain question, and that includes talking to names like Stephanie McMahon and Triple H.
Is there anyone you think deserves more credit for their work in the business?
This is sort of a cop out answer, but I could make a case for everyone who works behind the scenes, from producers to stagehands to production, all needing far more credit for what they have done in the business.
