AIW GO FOR BROKE ON IWTV.LIVE REPORT

By Joshua Higham on 2021-04-21 09:35:00

We begin with a tribute to Shannon Place, a member of the Smart Mark Video crew who we lost a couple weeks ago. Rest in peace, Shannon.

We are back in the undisclosed location in or around Cleveland, OH, for the next episode of AIW’s Go for Broke. We take a look back at the action of the previous episode and the current leaderboard before we get to this week’s action.

It’s time to head to the couch for a look at Philly Collins, one half of the AIW tag team champions. Philly mentioned that the late Chandler Biggins recruited him to AIW. He wants to show that he’s more athletic than his physical appearance might suggest and be known as one of the best wrestlers.

Casey Carrington vs Philly Collins is our first match. This is Casey Carrington’s AIW debut. Collins offers his hand, and Carrington takes the handshake and offers a head butt of his own. John Thorne mentions that Carrington is the youngest member of this tournament at only 18 years old, having just graduated high school. A couple nearfalls from the rookie, and Philly gets himself jacked up. Philly hits a gorilla press slam and splash, a la Ultimate Warrior, to get the win.

We see a video of Megan Meyers laughing maniacally, and she will debut tonight.

Marino Tenaglia meets his tag team partner, Philly Collins, at the curtain. We see Frankie Flynn being weird in the background, before the tag champs come across Absolute Intense champion Josh Bishop and Wes Barkley, the Rip City Shooters. They trash talk, and Marino challenges Wes Barkley to a match next week.

Time for Frankie Flynn taking on Ethan Wright, who we met last week. Frankie Flynn, a former AIW tag team champion, is making his AIW return after almost two years away, looking very different. Thorne contends that The Production moving on without him may have messed with his mind a little. Despite his time away, Flynn looks impressive, but seemingly makes a mistake by going to the top rope. Ethan Wright wins with an implant DDT.

Fun little commercial, parodying the old ECW video tape ads, hyping JLIT 2019 as “the night Filthy Tom Lawlor danced atop the AIW Arena.”

We head back to the couch with 40 Acres: PB Smooth, Tre Lamar, and Joseline Navarro. PB Smooth talks about the rise of black wrestlers on the independent scene and how promoters tends to fall into the trap of the “angry black man” stereotype. Smooth reminds everyone that no matter how self-made you think you are, there really is someone else pushing you to be better.

We see The Duke and the Bitcoin Boiz. Mikey Montgomery doesn’t want to lose another chance to gain Biggins Bucks when Brian Carson is heading to the ring.

El Ninja Uno is taking on Brian Carson next. This is Brian Carson’s first match in a while. He’s been doing commentary for AIW for the past year or so. Brian Carson gets the easy win with El Ninja Uno tapping out before the sharpshooter was fully locked on.

Derek Dillinger is heading the ring with Ziggy Haim when Frankie Flynn tells him to break his leg… literally. Dillinger says that he outshined Flynn when they were in the Production, but Flynn says he walked away, just like all the other members of the Production eventually would. Razor Sharpe walks in trying to keep the peace, telling Flynn he has his back.

Megan Meyers makes her AIW debut taking on Derek Dillinger. Meyers tries to get in Dillinger’s head, laughing at Dillinger’s chops. Dillinger with a buckle bomb and a Bubba bomb to get the win.

We’re on the couch with Arthur McArthur. He wants to entertain the masses like Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. He talks about being a character in 2021, bringing back a lost art of characters in pro wrestling. He talks about his time in the military before wrestling. He mentions his normal tag team partner, Chuck Stone, but in a singles tournament, he feels he has to prove himself.

Six person tag match time as the Bitcoin Boiz and The Duke take on 40 Acres (Joseline Navarro, PB Smooth, and Tre Lamar. Thorne mentions how Smooth, a former Absolute Champion, has grown in confidence in the past year. This is Joseline’s first in-ring action for AIW. Bitcoin Boiz and The Duke make quick tags, keeping Tre Lamar away from his tag partners. A Pele kick gives Lamar the separation needed to make the tag to Joseline. The Duke sneaks in to attack and end Joseline’s momentum. The Duke uses his size, power, and experience advantages to ground Joseline. The Duke tries for the Vader Bomb, but Joseline gets the knees up. Joseline finally gets the tag to PB Smooth, who dominates the two Boiz. Smooth tags Joseline back in. Joseline splashes Taylor, but Montgomery makes the save. Montgomery hits a corkscrew splash on Smooth and Lamar on the floor. Taylor folds Joseline up and puts the feet on the ropes and gets the three count.

Back in the lounge, Brian Carson is bragging about his win tonight. The Duke arrives, already annoyed by Carson. The Duke wagers his Biggins Bucks in a match with Carson next week, and Carson accepts. (Although I don’t think The Duke was told you only win 500 Biggins Bucks in tag matches.)

We go to credits.
