Northeast Wrestling “NEW Studio Wars: Spring Slam”

4/20/21

Available Now at www.HighspotsWrestlingNetwork.com

After 14 episodes of Studio Wars, we have made it to a traditional NEW show, “Spring Slam”. We’re in the Studio Wars venue so this is feeling like a culmination and grand finale for the series right now. Paul Crockett and Jon Roy are your commentary team tonight.

Match 1: Wrecking Ball Legursky vs Dutch (w/ Vita Von Starr)

Dutch ambushes Legursky from behind during his entrance. A chair instantly introduced and they trade shots back and forth. Even Vita gets involved, throwing kicks from the apron. Wrecking Ball runs himself into the ring post. He battles back but Vita with the distraction and Dutch lays in a heavy chair shot. Legurky with a throat thrust and another chair shot...sends Dutch into the stairs. Legursky grabs a table but Vita tries to cut that off. Trading chops and we FINALLY get to the ring apron. Trading shots, double headbutt and they crash through the table. The ref never rang the bell to start this match but he’s definitely calling off the contest here. Very Clash of the Titans here and the non-finish makes sense with how quickly we got to this encounter. The rematch deserves a crowd to eat this up.

Winner: None. The match never started.

Match 2: Thrillride & Gio Galvano vs “Club Cam” Cam Zagami & “Top Notch” Tony Vega (w/ Nikii Duke)

Thrillride saved Gio from a double team by Vega and Zagami last week at “Studio Wars”. Thrillride does bicep curls with Cam’s VIP posts. Cam hates this. Gio and Thrillride take their turns laying a beating on Zagami. Zagami with a drop toe hold and distraction leaves Thrillride open for the cheap shots and double teams from the whole Club. Thrillride taking the beat down, eats a side Russian leg sweep from Cam for the two. Vega whiffs an running elbow drop, Gio with the hot tag. Zagami tries to cut it off with a handful of tights, Gio with a running knee to the head and Zagami is down for the count. Solid tag match here.

Winners: Thrillride & Gio Galvano

Match 3: Steven Stetson vs “The American Sumo” Mike Gamble

The cowboy likes to take on the biggest and baddest NEW has to offer. He has a huge test against Gamble, who has had some of the most consistently good matches across the last few months of Studio Wars. He tries to trade power with Sumo but a short shoulder check and palm strike puts him on his butt. Stetson still wants a test of strength? Gamble quickly overpowers and lands clubbing palms to the back. Stetson wants a slam? Nah, son. Big back body drop and a running elbow for two. Sumo tries to close this killing out mercifully but Stetson rakes the eyes and dropkicks the big man to the outside. Gamble makes it back and Stetson swarms with stomps. Big legdrop but no cover? Stetson is too cocky and Gamble battles back with chops. Stetson catches him on the ropes and hits a big boot for two. He misses another legdrop and Sumo hitting more palm strikes, corner splashes, and a high cross body for two. Sumo is nursing his neck as he goes for the banzai drop....Stetson tries to powerbomb him off. Stetson biting at the fingers, Stetson comes running, eats a Samoan drop and Sumo hits the Banzai drop for the three count. Stetson almost had this but his confidence got the better of him. Good match!

Winner: Mike Gamble

Match 4: The Trust Fund (Tommy Grayson, JP Grayson & “The Natural” Channing Thomas w/ Jared Silberkleit) vs “Man of Steel” Mike Verna and Waves & Curls (Traevon Jordan & Jaylen Brandyn)

Waves & Curls are all business tonight, no fun and dancing....just fight. That “creep” Jared Silberkleit has a huddle with his boys, who can clearly tell a receipt is coming tonight. Jaylen lets his anger get the better of him, allowing the Trust Fund to swarm and hits some triple team action in the corner. Thomas whiffs a corner legdrop and Jordan comes in to slam the Trust Fund into the poor house. Spinning sidewalk slam to Thomas from Jordan and a Hart attack....Jared rallys the Trust Fund to the outside again. Looks like they have a dive incoming but OH NO, IT’S A TRAP! MIKE VERNA SOLD OUT and clothelines Waves & Curls from behind. Jared brings the Trust Fun back into the ring with a triple beat down and the ref calls for the bell. Jared Silberkleit hands an envelope of money to the Man of Steel and welcomes him to the Trust Fund. The beating continues while Crockett & Roy call Verna a son of a b**** for taking the money. Jared laughs with joy as Waves & Curls is left dumbfounded in the ring. Yeah, he’s an awful sleaze of a weasel and I have definitely echoed that point through the weeks.....but you can’t deny Jared Silberkleit is a GOOD F***ING MANAGER with an eye for talent.

Winner: No Contest

Dan Maff drags Ref Kevin Quinn to the ring for an open challenge. He wants a FIGHT and it’s no DQ so who will step up to the champ? Shawn Donovan’s music hits! This is Maff’s friend but with the belt on the line, who cares about THAT?

Main Event: Dan Maff(c) vs Shawn Donovan (No DQ for the NEW Heavyweight Championship)

Donovan doesn’t even make it into the ring before these two are trading barbs....with explodes into punches. Maff with a cutter on the top rope. Donavan eats it and throwing shots. Trading big hits, Donovan rips his shirt off and shocking Maff with it. Battle to the outside, Maff gets whipped to the guardrail. Donovan batters the champ with a chair. Shawn wants to taunt and Maff kicks him in the gut for talking smack. Maff pounding the chair in the face of his FRIEND. Maff sends him to the guardrail but posts himself, allowing Donavan to get some space. Great moment with them starting across the ring from each other as they work their way back in. Head to head in the center, trading forearms and loud chops. Donovan with a thumb to the eye, Maff with a boot counter but the shoulder that ate the post gives out on the burning hammer attempt. Donovan with a spike ddt..two count! Maff comes running and hit with a spinebuster but that doesn’t do it. Donovan wraps up a single leg crab! Maff drags to the bottom rope and makes the break. Donovan loading up a finish but Maff hits a spear! The champ rages up with a corner cannonball for two. He tries another corner charge but Donovan posts him, and hits a charginknee and forearm. He wants finishing knee but Maff with a huge uppercut to the nards. Donovan kicks out but Maff wraps up a rear naked choke and screams at his opponent until Donovan goes to sleep. Good big fight here!

Winner (And Stilllllll): Dan Maff

And that’s it for Spring Slam and Season 1 of Studio Wars! Good show! We closed out a couple of stories but really, the line in the sand is “WHO can take the belt from Danny Maff?” (Or for that matter, Brad Hollister!). DOes Jared Silberkleit FINALLY have enough invested to get his greedy paws on NEW tag team gold? NEW is planning to go back to live events at some point soon so it’sTBD on what happens with this series going forward...but the live NEW crowd is going to go NUTS when they make their return. Until then!
