CM Punk responded to IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay calling him out during an interview with Digital Spy, noting that he'd revisit in a few months if Ospreay is still champion. "I don't want to give people false hope in answering Ospreay," Punk said. "But he's for sure somebody that I've never wrestled before that interests me a lot more than, I guess, the corporate side of professional wrestling nowadays."
Sources at ViceTV have noted that New Japan Pro Wrestling was offered a deal similar to what MLW has come to terms for with the cable network but turned it down last year. New Japan has had discussions with a number of broadcast and streaming platforms in recent months.
This Friday's edition of New Japan Strong will feature the first ever NJPW Strong Openweight Champion crowned in the finals of the New Japan Cup USA tournament with Tom Lawlor vs. Brody King. Also slated for the episode is Rocky Romero vs. Wheeler Yuta and TJP & Clark Connors vs. Chris Dickinson & JR Kratos.
Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kota Ibushi vs. Guerrillas of Destiny will headline New Japan on The Roku Channel tomorrow.
